You earned my like five times over: 1. Even attempting the world record in that POS watercraft; 2. Breaking the handlebars and continuing with a DIY set made from an oar; 3. Crashing; 4. Patching it up with sticky tape and pop rivets; 5. Having the balls to try again in a broken hovercraft. well done.
CVSiN he ain’t gonna get much out of that two stroke tho. Maybe a big bore kit but that’s about it. Maybe if he put a high revving Honda engine that will really make that fan spin fast.
Bob Windt, world record holder. Great guy! Helped me with my hovercraft build of one of his designs. Still have it better than ever since 1980. Thanks Bob! Rest in peace 🙏
Those that knew Bob.... know. you had to be there and had to know him. otherwise you can never fully explain his greatness to someone. you can try.... but only those that knew him.... know. And even tho Bob helped with generations of kids.... no matter the age difference or the distance apart from each other .... we are all Bob kids.
@grahamdillinger7338 Yeah Bob helped so many people, too many to count, gave so much time to those who asked and then some. I was privileged to have known him and be blessed by him. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have a hovercraft more than likely, especially a home built one that I made with tons of his help. Started building it in 1980 and still have it today with many modifications. He saw my craft several times at the rallys. He's a real hero to me personally. His craft designs were always progressing. He was a genius. So glad he was in my life and gave me the help I needed in constructing my craft. He's a legend and I know he's up there in heaven.
@@wassupdoc2780 , where are you from ? and what craft did you build? it was probably a ribbed craft like the 13 t maybe ? if you went to rallys then I may have met you at some point I've the years. I wasnt born until 87 so I didn't start going to rallys until 95-96.
I grew up In the backyard of Robert windt, who still holds the speed record. if anyone is gonna have a chance to beat the record , it's gonna be us kids who grew up under Bob's wing. he had us racing hovercrafts at 7 - 8 years old. me and my buddies still build and operate them on the Mississippi river near Cordova Illinois which is where we grew up and where BOB WINDT lived. The man was an aeronotical engineer for McDonnal Douglas and was known for his brilliant mind when it came to math and physics. especially in aerodynamics. The craft that he built to set the speed record was one of a kind and just a beast of a craft. It takes some serious horsepower strapped to a very lightweight craft and a set of balls bigger than basketballs in order to even get close to his INSANE 3 pass average speed of 85.3. In which he casually set in a very short and restricted space which included a damn on one end, and a corner on the other end. Bob was a champion at everything he ever did. I hope to write a book some day about growing up under his wing and the amazing life he helped us live. he is gone but never forgotten. we love and miss you BOB. And your record still stands firm!!!!!!
Yours is the only complaint I have yet to see in his videos about his 'English'. I totally agree with you. I can't understand him and neither can the captions.
It's one thing to go beyond you comfort zone in something that's whole and intact. It's another thing doing it in something that isn't. And Gy's smart enough to know the difference.
fellow Bob kid !!!! crazy how no matter the age difference or the distance between .... those of us who had a childhood that involved Bob windt in good ol Cordova Illinois .... will always be BOB KIDS! he made many generations one big family. A man that truly lived by the spirit of the Almighty God.
Grats on the UK record! Good call not pushing it past your comfort zone, you now can try again if you feel up to it some other time in a fresh craft. If you would have suffered serious injury then no second chances....
Why hasn’t anyone figured out how to make these things go faster? I feel like it’d be easy enough with a spoiler that adjusted based on speed or pitch.
Guy glad you pulled out of that. If you hit the water with that helmet you'd be in a wheel chair if you're lucky and most likely dead. The force of the water entering the base of the helmet breaks your neck and or stretches your spinal column to the point you'd be wheelchair racing. Breakaway clips are a must at minimum and it why they are mandatory in most open cockpit power boat categories. Also helmet restraints are encouraged
....or ditch the single engine in the rear, and put an engine and prop at either side, out to the sides, at the bow. Pilot, way back at the stern, and also shielded from any prop, should one splinter.
No need for that, I know the current world record holder of over 20 years the main factors were a sleek design and the lift fan being angled toward the back to provide more forward momentum
I'd be genuinely intrigued to see your solution. Theres some damned fine engineers racing f1 hovercraft who haven't bested the lift tendency yet. How would you fix it?

Here because of cleetus🙋♂️
Hell yeah Brother..... damn right..
Lol yea, he just bought a fire rescue hovercraft and uploaded the video today.
He should’ve modded out his black one. Not as fast as this one in the video but enough to give you a scare.
@@brendanmccarthy492 Yeah I kept waiting for him to adjust the angle of the prop or figure out how to get more HP out of it..

75mph on water is bloody fast
Sooo fkn fast
Especially in that shitty ass little hover craft
Fair play for going back out after that lift, it could quite of easily saw him in hospital or worst if he hit the water after flipping at that speed.
6:20 no finer words said Guy. Tomorrow is another day, you can only attempt it again tomorrow if you're alive
Pussy
Can’t guy just have nothing happen for once😂
If nothing happends he isn't pushing hard enough.

I have so much respect for this dude.
I love Guy Martin...he's speaking English, but I can't understand a word he says. Some of his Isle of Man TT interviews were priceless!!
Yours is the only complaint I have yet to see in his videos about his 'English'. I totally agree with you. I can't understand him and neither can the captions.
Guys actually so brave he doesn’t fear death at all and for how successful he is he’s very very humble such a good guy!!!
Guy, have you paid the £10 debt? ;)

What record he trying to beat this week guy?
"I owe Ranulph Fiennes £10.......Bugger" LMAO :-)
i mean like spoilers and wings exist, could make it hug the watter more add some controlls for that
meanwhile Top Gear: Hovervan
Fair play to Guy, he gave it his best shot but you can't plan for wind change.
I have $10 on cleetus and Finnegan going triple digits. Soon
Guy is an accident always looking for somewhere to happen.! He’s a f*
A auto leveling servo controlled wing on the front may help.
Where is the video where he flies in an airship? The order in which these videos are published is very confusing.
All it needs is a wing on the nose that changes to a steeper gradiant at higher speeds, just enough to hold the nose down.

“Ghost driver”
probably had to get to a halloween party so couldn’t wait around for the petty stuff, so he booked.
In my opinion the crash was caused by Guy's massive balls unbalancing the craft...
To bad you can’t tag Cleetus in videos
The only hero here is Bill Baker, an extremely clever man.
"It's comin up, it's comin up, it's comin up...it's dare"
Cleetus, where you at?
Nowhere as stupid.
Well done Guy
Gav Smith top bloke. How’s it Royal ?
wtf whay dont y place flags along the runway on the water that indicate wind
Guy is just Proper.
Could it be that this craft is not ideal for speed?
Aerodynamically, that thing is almost the most naive and backwardly designed it could possibly be.
I'd be genuinely intrigued to see your solution. Theres some damned fine engineers racing f1 hovercraft who haven't bested the lift tendency yet.
How would you fix it?
needs a darker vignette in post production 🙄🙂
LEGEND
cleetus is going to beat this by 10mph
You gave it a go , you just found one craft that won’t do it I’m sure there’s one out there for ya pal
Maybe steel handlebars would be better and ailerons...... or maybe it's just not up to going fast 💨........
someone needs some downforce
Blades exploded in his face ?? Was he in reverse? 🤫
Two fans, one behind him, one right in front of his face 6:11
Seriously I’d be more then happy
When ur here cause clettus
this dude haha
Not a very aerodynamic kit....😏or speed stable design...😼and they say the water only gets harder the faster you hit it...😬🤔😳😂
The Bugatti will beat this record in first gear
