Cariñosa is a super old school and iconic Filipino folk song/dance. Many kids grow up learning the dance at school, so it's very emblematic of the culture for many Filipinos. It's quite fitting for Ez Mil to remix the melody of this song for his homage to his culture. He's mixing the traditional with the modern.

Waleska, Ez Mil grew up in the Philippines. He is only 22 yrs old now, he moved to the US when he was 19 so he basically spent around 3 yrs in America. Well he might have been immersed in American rap while he was in the Philippines. If you listened to his album, most of his songs were actually not infused with rap music, some of them were pure RnB modern style.

Correction. Filipino is only the Philippine's official Language. Tagalog, Ilocano , bikolano, cebuana etc are called dialect.

    • @tinolangmanowk8258
      @tinolangmanowk8258 3 роки тому +17

@@ricojrnocos152 wrong. :) Tagalog has "official language" status together with english accdg. to the constitution, but that doesn't mean that all other 181 languages of the philippines are just "dialects". "Official language status" means that it would be the language (among all other Ph languages) that would be promoted in usage in schools, businesses and media by the gov't., but that doesn't mean Bisaya/Cebuano, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Waray, Hiligaynon, Bikol etc. Are just dialects.
There are many ways by which we can differentiate dialects from languages, but the most basic and accepted method is thru "mutual intelligibility". That is, when speaker A does not understand what speaker B is saying or have very little to no grasp of what the other is saying, it means that they are speaking different languages and not dialects of the same language. The same would apply here in the philippines, that is why when I, a Kapampangan, started speaking my language to a Bisaya, hindi po kami magkakaintindihan.
Besides, these languages that I mentioned have different vocabularies, grammar, literatures and history. May mga pagkakapareho po sa mga IILANG words, but that is because PH languages belong to the AUSTRONESIAN family of languages, wherein naka include din po dito ang halos lahat ng languages sa Indonesia, Malaysia, and to some extent the Pacific islanders, so it would be normal if there are some terms na pareho or may hawig sa bawat isa.
Now what are dialects? Dialects are variants of the same language in different areas, pero magkakaintindihan parin po sila since they still use the same language. An example of this is the Batangueño Tagalog and Bulacan Tagalog, wherein may pagkakaiba with the way they speak, but they would understand what each other are saying since they're both speaking in Tagalog. The same would apply to the Variants of Bisaya spoken in Cebu and Davao.
Up until this day, the education system is still trying to correct the big misconception that Tagalog and english are the only languages in the Philippines, and that all other regional languages are just "dialects". This started in pre WW2 when Americans thought that Filipinos are only speaking dialects of the same language. This idea was wrongly caught on by the education system back then, who also did this to promote the "isang bansa, isang diwa" nationalism, which is problematic to its core. But then again, if you would ask linguists, UNESCO, and other experts in the field nowadays, all other Philippine languages are considered to be languages of their own already, because of the realization that they have always been.
Sana po malinawan kayo. Good day :)

@@tinolangmanowk8258 based on your lecture, would you say that tagalog and its variants are dialects of the the Filipino language which is officially recognized as the national language? just curious, coz i’m also confused 🤷‍♂️.

    • @tinolangmanowk8258
      @tinolangmanowk8258 3 роки тому +7

@@ryanbuenviaje5809 Hello, so yeah I will try to explain it to you in a way that is most consistent and true to the field of linguistics, since the Concept of "Filipino" is born of a political/legal context.
Technically speaking, "Filipino" is the Manila variant/dialect of the Tagalog Language, which was elevated into a national language status by president Quezon. It was a more standardized version of the Tagalog language. But it is still Tagalog, together with the Batangueño, Laguna, Bulacan, Mindoro and other Tagalog dialects.
Now it is important to note how "Filipino" came to be, and how it was supposed to look like based on the constitution and the KWF. Originally, the plan was to make a national language based in Tagalog, but is to NATURALLY EVOLVE away from the Tagalog language, and become a whole new language that is different from Tagalog. How are they gonna do this, you ask? They aim to do this by introducing/borrowing words from other PH languages and English hanggang sa dumating sa point na it (the Manila dialect of Tagalog) becomes a whole new language. But the question is, did Filipino/Manila Tagalog deviate from its Mother Language Tagalog? No. Words like "Kompyuter" and such are added to the language, yet the grammar, semantics and everything is still Tagalog. Also, the other dialects of "Tagalog" have evolved also and borrowed a lot of words from english and spanish the same way "Filipino" did. Speakers of "Filipino" and native "Tagalog" speakers could still understand each other, right?
So yeah, "Filipino" is still Tagalog and technically just a standardized version/dialect of Tagalog. But is Filipino a different language from Tagalog? Linguistics would say No. :)
Pasensya na po napahaba nanaman haha :)

    • @saisaipech
      @saisaipech 3 роки тому +2

      @@tinolangmanowk8258
Your explanation is perfect! If KWF really wants Filipino and Tagalog to deviate from each other, they do need to change some grammatical features of Tagalog. It's like KWF is making a conlang. I think KWF's goal of making Filipino and Tagalog distinct is way too forced. Even adding vocabs from other languages such as "bana" and inventing new cognates from other languages such as "kalimbahin" are also forced for me. It will probably take hundreds or thousands of years for Filipino to diverge from Tagalog.

You have to react to his song "Idk" i freaking love the bars, he also made a 24-bar challenge video on his youtube account which gives off Eminem vibes. He's by far my most fav artist in the Philippines when it comes to versatility. He can be next to KZ imo. Guy can dance, can sing (kinda sounds like Shawn Mendez 💀) and can rap as fast as Eminem. Also fun fact: his dad is a lead vocalist/guitarist of an old Filipino rock band and EZ Mil sorta has beef with him (he has a song about his dad on his album). But he still considers himself more Filipino than white.
I learned all that when i fell the yt rabbit hole after that performance 💀💀

Cariñosa - is a Filipino Folk Dance that uses hankerchief and candles, thats why he wore a hankerchief on his shoulder. He used 3 different languages in the song, Filipino (Tagalog) English and Ilocano (1 of 172 languages that we use) 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

    SONG TRANSLATION:
    Mga Kababayan (My People/fellow)
    Turn up!
    Chorus
    We are Filipino
No matter the skin colour, we are one
Tagalog, Bisaya, or Ilokano (Filipino languages)
No one can defeat the strength of our blood
    Declare our victory loud/proud
Don't talk about the negative things
Wherever you are in the world
    Let's go to tomorrow, WIN/Victory!
    Verse 2:
If you think EZ Mil only speaks one language
You will never get far in life
Ask God for mercy (Kay Bathala ka sisingil)
    -----
Now when he says the next lines, it doesn't make sense too much in Tagalog but I think it's all wordplay to secretly say "Motherfucker" which is "putangina" based on what he emphasized:
uTANG NA galib sa loob (debt from within)
LumuTANG hiNAin sa Turon (rises, wrapped in Turon----filipino dessert)
puSANG siNAing sa (kitty boils the rice)
He consistently used "TANG" and "NA" rhyming pattern twice in a row making you think he's gonna end the bar the same way, but instead he starts the third line with "pu"
So first I thought he would say "putang" and then "Ina", but he played with it and said "pusang" "sinaing"
Feel free to listen to that part again to hear how he emphasizes certain syllables, he even smirks at the end of that bar and says "huh?" Before rapping in Ilokano
    ----
Mag ilokano ka !(speak ilokano now!)
    (IN ILOKANO)
    EVEN THOUGH I TOLD
    YOU MOTHEFCKER
    IM JUST WAITING FOR WHOEVER
    WANTS TO COME FOR ME
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BITCH AND CRY
    TRYING TO GIVE ME ADVICE
    DO YOU WANNA GET MURDERED
    WITH THIS PADDLE
Sikayo nga ang-amin (all of you in Ilokano)
Lahat kayo (all of you in Tagalog)
    All of you
Ever since bata ako (ever since I was a child)
    ....
    ....
"You're so white, tisoy (slang for someone who is half white, although its not a slur)
    I'm not white, I'm Pinoy
Nobody will ever look at me the
    Same way again
I'll make it to the top while I be showing
    Naysayers and
    I been winning ever since
Lapu (Lapu-Lapu is a national hero who defeated Portugese Explorer Magellan) was beheaded in Mactan
    And everyone got hurt
    When they learned the death
    Of their national hero (bayani)
On the shores of our nation
    That we own as Filipinos
    Despite any turmoil
I'll be proud of my soil
    Why? Because (bakit? Kase)
    Ending Chorus

His parents are not living. together when the entire brood resettled in the States until today. His father’s rock music and fame through on his own band called Arkasia has their music still played here in the Philippines and abroad where Filipinos are and is a guitar genius....father’s name is Paul Sapiera...mother’s surname is Miller so EZ Mil is his artist name as a rapper.
