I was just about to finish the tutorial, render was ready, everything was set. I pressed f12 to see my render and Blender just froze. I then hoped, that there is a auto save. And saw there is actually a auto save function, but you have to set it up first. Didn't knew that. My progress of 8 hours is gone. I could literally cry right now. Well, at least that's a good test to see if I can manage to redo it by my own without the turorials.

    • @clockersmocker
      @clockersmocker Рік тому +11

@@tommycosta8268 Don't worry, it's actually a good thing that this happened.
I didn't have time to finish the tutorial in one go. So, i only watch 2 or 3videos per day, and i found that eventhough i was concentrated and everything i still forgot about the vast majority of things that i thought learned.
      But fear not, it's normal.
i decided to remake the donnut on my own, whenever i was planning on watching the tutorial. I've been repeating it and trying to understand each and every video so i can do it on my own and see if really understood the task. Repeating the donut took hours in the first try, but after the 2nd and 3rd attempt i was easily flying by some steps and even predicting what is gonna happen in the next seconds of video, or at least figured out different ways to get to the same results.
don't look at the repetition as a punishement, instead concider it as a challenge to see if you understand, and that you're not just copying whatever is said, and of course if you're stuck you can cheat and see the tutorial.
at some point i was so busy, that whenever i had some lone time, i tried to repeat the donut in my head.
i hope this pushes you to not give up. think of why you started all of this

You're absolutely right and by now I see this as an opportunity and I'm actually recreating the steps right now. It may be the best way to learn it by doin everything on your own. 17:03, Make sure to save before you Render anything. If you're using an older MacBook Pro and trying to render with Cycles, Blender will probably crash before it's done. DON'T FEAR! if you change the start frame on the animation timeline to whatever frame it ended on, it'll start rendering the animation from there instead of the beginning. It's only taken me 3 days to Render it, so there's hope for you yet!

One thing that took me a while to learn was how making something like this doesn't actually take as long once you know what everything does. I thought it actually took hours on end to create a simple donut though the time is cut down a lot when you take out the explanations he throughs in. I feel it helps show how much he cares about people actually knowing what they are doing rather than making a short tutorial for some quick cash that makes it hard to learn.

I can't really describe this, 2 days ago I had no experience at all with blender, have been using cinema 4d for the last 5-6 years, but more heavily in the previous 2.5 years in Uni. Now I have got a clear understanding of many things which I was (sort of) aware of but didn't want to put myself in the position to learn. I can't thank you enough, you're a treasure!

After doing the 2.8 Beginner Tutorial Series at the beginning of 2020 (we all know what was going on) I continued well into the summer of that year with learning Blender, but eventually my interest dropped, and I hadn't touched it again until this year (early '23.) I felt like I'd forgotten everything but with this tutorial series it was easy to pick it back up, and most things, with the exception of geometry nodes, felt like a review. Thank you Andrew for putting all of that work into this series!
I know you get criticized for how long the series is but I want to say I appreciate all the time you put into teaching not just how to do things, but why we should do them as well. The theory behind everything you explain goes a long way in helping us understand things in much finer detail than if it the whole thing was a simple process based tutorial. This whole series really feels like a course more than a tutorial, and completing it is much more satisfactory than completing a small tutorial where you maybe learn a couple of tools and how to use them in very specific scenarios.
Congratulations to everyone that made it to the end! Love seeing everyone's work on Reddit and it was a big part of why I decided to jump back into it! That, and Geometry Nodes, of course!
This community, and how much support I see from fellow Blender users is amazing! The whole way through the series, there are endless comments from people providing tips, ideas, and support to those that needed it, and it's lovely to see!
Thanks for nurturing that, Blender Guru! You're the best!

And for those who find this tutorial difficult, or who think that yours looks terrible, that is ok. It isn't SUPPOSED to be easy, you are just learning. The next one will be better though won't it? And keep in mind, once you finish this tutorial, you will know more about 3D modeling than I did after a year of working on it. These tutorials have helped me out tremendously with learning Blender and I don't think I could have started it without them. I am still a beginner I've only finished this series, the first donut series, and my own personal brownie project which didn't turn out too bad though it could have had a lot more detail that I learned from this series that I didn't put in. I want to be able to work to my goal of at least making short mini animations for a story I have created over the past 4 years. Although I'm not sure if I'd ever be able to model characters, I'd at least want to be able to model an item from it and add in something going on behind the camera through sound effects. We're quick to damn the internet and social media etc. and I'm sure it could be refined/reinvented to become a more positive space but learning like this is where it should start. Amazing - thanks!! =D

I decided to start my journey using a gaming engine, understood the coding aspect of things and then got to the assets portion and was like... uuhhh... yea... I didn't really want to purchase a lot of other stuff and wanted to create my own content, however, I never went down the artistic side of any programs. I found out about Blender because, well, it's free and then I had to figure out where to start. Like you said in the first video, I was one of those people who was a little blown away by how much there was in the application. This video series was an eye opener and I am definitely grateful for it! It's not perfect, but I definitely feel I followed along nicely. I feel a lot more confident in being able to create my own content using Blender and by virtue of comments and educational tidbits I now understand what to use for future projects of mine. I'm looking forward to looking into more tutorials done by the awesome Blender Guru. Thank you very much!

A much underappreciated thing throughout this whole tutorial series has been this mans sense of humour. I found myself letting out little chuckles throughout the hours we spent together. Made this a much better experience. Thanks for making me laugh as well

Thank you for your Donut Tutorial. I'm rendering my Donut right now. I'm so happy that I made it that far. At first I was intimidated by the sheer amount of options Blender has. But you really helped me to understand Blender better and I learned a lot. This was the first step and I'm excited to create more 3D art.
