ABOUT THE MOVIE
Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” introduces Mei Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (voice of Sandra Oh), is never far from her daughter-an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda! Directed by Academy Award® winner Domee Shi (Pixar short “Bao”) and produced by Lindsey Collins “Turning Red releases on March 11, 2022.
According to “Turning Red” director Domee Shi, if you set a 13-year-old girl’s coming-of-age story in the early 2000s, it’s pretty much mandatory to include a boy band. “We needed our character Mei to be obsessed with something that her mom would not approve of,” said Shi. “Boy bands were the first step into the world of boys for a lot of girls that age. The guys were all super pretty, polished, soft and loving, and they had of way of bringing girls and their besties together. Plus, I thought it’d be really cool to create an animated boy band.”
Joining previously announced Rosalie Chiang and Sandra Oh, who lend their voices to Mei and her mother Ming, are Orion Lee as the voice of Mei’s dad, Jin, and Wai Ching Ho as the voice of Grandma. Mei’s tightknit group of friends are voiced by Ava Morse as Miriam, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Priya, and Hyein Park as Abby. Tristan Allerick Chen voices classmate Tyler, and Addie Chandler lends his voice to Mei’s secret crush Devon. Providing the harmonious voices of the members of 4*Town are Jordan Fisher, Grayson Villanueva, Josh Levi, Topher Ngo and Finneas O’Connell. Rounding out the voice cast are James Hong, Lori Tan Chinn, Lillian Lim, Mia Tagano, Sherry Cola, Sasha Roiz and Lily Sanfelippo. - Фільми й анімація
If you don’t know, Boo is actually named Mary. How do I know? In monsters ink while Boo is looking through her paper in the bed, on top of the paper, it says Mary.

I like the idea of Abby and boo being sisters, especially since they both have furry gentle giants in their lives. Also, I think a turning red TV series would be better instead of a sequel.

When I heard this theory. I thought it could be true because boo cannon name is mary Gibbs. So the older sister theroy for Abby make more sense tbh.

The Boo being Abby theory really doesn’t work on two aspect: the time period of each movie, and the eyelids on the characters; Abby is monolidded, and Boo has double eyelids which tells me different family origins/ethnicities.
If anything Abby is more similar to Agnes from Despicable Me.

Another thing for the 22 theory, in Soul 22 couldn’t figure out her thing. During Turning Red, Mei was trying to find out who she really was.

Fun fact:gulia (from Luca) was actually just born with red hair so they wouldn’t be related because she was born in Puerto Rico so I just don’t think there related so yeah that’s in my thought
If Abby and Boo are possibly sisters or Cousins (even though it might not be true), does that mean Turning Red and Monsters Inc. sort of take place at the same time or something?

@@Ns-dy4vz I wouldn't be surprised to see Disney & Pixar reaching into its animated back catalogue for more TV shows going forward (like Monsters at Work) so maybe they'll do something on Boo or 22 one day. :-)

The idea of a "Godzilla" type showdown between giant red pandas in a Turning Red sequel made me immediately think that it needs to happen at Canada's Wonderland. Just a thought.

well, isn't tyler black and vietnamese? that would rule out the alberto relation theory. besides, hairstyle can come from different ethnicities and personalities aren't passed down.

domee shi has stated herself that tyler is blasian. considering his dad is black, and from what it looks like his mother is asian and he has the last name "nguyen" which is vietnamese, it's not that hard to back that up.

Her name is Mary Gibbs because she is actually based off her voice actor as well, who IS named Mary Gibbs

@@Ns-dy4vz it isn’t very possible. Boo was 2 in Monster’s Inc. which takes place in 1999. Boo would be 5 by 2002 meanwhile Abby is 12-13 :)

This theory is very interesting but Abby is more monolidded meanwhile boo has double eyelids. the timeline also doesn’t make sense, monsters inc was placed in 2001, but turning red is placed in 2002-2003 meaning that boo would still be really young. The theory about them being sisters makes a little more sense then them being the same person lol.

It's the fact that every new Disney movie to come out that has a light skin, dark hair purple clothing wearing girl everyone thinks it's Boo. There's so many theories of an older Boo.
I recently thought of a really good sequel idea of an unknown relative of mei can turn into a red panda, and they go through the same struggles mei did. Glad to know i'm not the only one who came up with that idea
So the theory that they moved to Canada when MeiMei was a baby is probably wrong because the dad said that the mom destroyed half of the temple, which was before she was born. Her mom or her grandmother probably did, though.

If Boo and Abby are related or the same person, then...it makes a lot of sense that Disney+ gave us a follow-up series to the film Monsters Inc. from 2001, the year before it gave us Turning Red, which takes place 1/2 a year after Monsters Inc. premiered.

A theorie i just thought of! It may already have been thought up by someone but hey ho.....
I was thinking that, you know when the panda ceremony is happening? They must draw a circle ⭕️ around where mei mei is standing and for when they were trying to turn ming back into human form. This screams out to me, ‘BRUNO!’, as in the movie Encanto, Bruno draws a circles to be able to use his gift, telling the future. I’m not exactly sure how this is related but hey! A new theorie! Xx

I just wanted to share, that the person mei looks at near the lockers looks like the guy Margo (from despicable me) ends up to fall in love with. Also, the aunt with the glasses and is a little bigger looks like the babysitter from cat in the hat.
my theory is that if there’s a turning red 2 tyler and mei would start catching feelings for each other they might start dating but someone in the school would have a crush on tyler and say bad stuff about mei to tyler which would lead to a fight which would also lead to mei turning into her panda self and then tyler realizes that the bad stuff the person said wasn’t true and he tries to talk to miriam, abby, and priya but they’re mad at him until he leaves them a note that says meet me in the cafeteria we need to talk after he explains everything they get tyler and mei to talk then miriam, abby, and priya start spreading rumours about that person which is the girl in the bathroom who saw mei. my other is basically the same but the person has a crush on mei they talk bad about tyler and that person to be devon. sorry if it’s long
