I'm really glad I've played enough of this tier at this point to actually have opinions on it at this point and not just be like "yeah that makes sense and seems right" to everything you say. Loved listening to this!
Looking at this list, I am realizing just how impactful Stealth Rock is. Almost every single defensive wall is weak to Stealth Rock and without it, flying types become defensive Edit: Grammar
It's insane that Lunatone is ranked but Alakazam or Wailord isn't. Also scizor should absolutely be ranked as I have solo-swept entire teams with it. It is imo the best endure/reversal sweeper by far due to being sand immune and it can also be a solid SD/speed passer.
Defensive wish baton pass Jolteon sounds like a solid meme to heal up a swampert or skarm. It could even run lum berry with a potential protect to meme-stall the Zapdos and proc wish more securely for teammates and itself. If you build Timid 176 speed you can outspeed and Baton Pass out of a max speed Dugtrio's arena trap and into a flyer. This would have the side effect of allowing the new pokemon in to also receive a Wish.
Lunatone with just Psychic and Ice Beam clears most play through in my Sapphire run. Throw in Calm Mind and Hypnosis and you get an absolute powerhouse!
Very cool. Within this "format" I love Gengar, Celebi, Aerodactyl, Starmie, Jolteon, Cloyster, Steelix and most of all Medicham, which is severely underrated
I think Dodrio, Dragonite, Dusclops, Espeon, Swellow and tauros deserve a place in the ranking. Jirachy deserves to drop a tier. It lacks the power to punch a hole in the enemy team. Swampert and Salamence are good pokemon, but they are a victim of their own succes: You see the pokemon that should be countered to specifically use hidden power to hit the 4x weakness. Magneton and Suicune should be A tier. Maybe Suicune could even be the 2nd best pokemon in the format. he's a good counter to heracross, hariyama, medicham, snorlax with sludge bomb and pain split, unfortunately most of those pokemon aren't huge threats on their own. He also does surprisingly well against Blissey and any Celebi that doesn't have psychic, able to break through them eventually with pain split and a crit sludge bomb. Even with haze he isn't a super reliable phaser because he doesn't resist rock or flying, so is vulnerable to danced up tyranitars and salamences, the main threats. He's also vulnerable to calm minders obviously so can't phase them due to how slow he is. Something like swampert or skarmory is going to be a more reliable phaser for those purposes. Instead I like to run him surprisingly offensive and fast, with explosion and sludge bomb. You often catch a lot of pokemon offguard with this strategy and stab poison is a great niche typing to get between the cracks of people's walls
Jirachi is an overrated B-tier mon. Very versatile, disappointing application in reality. As a CM sweeper it has a glaring physical Ground weakness in comparison to Cune, and can't pass its boosts or has as good of a universal move for switch ins like Celebit with BP and Leech Seed. It also can't really afford to run STAB since it doesn't get good moves to hit TTar with, resorting to things like Thunder for high BP move. Wish Protect is probably its best set, but having to actually click Protect to receive its own WIshes is a big downside, along with how gd passive it is. Most of the difficulty facing it is figuring out which combination of moves it has, and dodge random serene grace triggers. That still makes it a good mon, but there's no way it has more metagame impact or is more splashable than Cune / Aero / Dol / Dug / Mag, around whom you can build your entire strategy.
I think Blissey is currently broken. Before we didn't realize it because of the more elaborate baton pass chains. Now with the new restrictions it is obvious how broken she is. There are few physical attackers who can defeat her. And even though Dugtrio can catch her, it's not easy for him. Much of this is thanks to the main physical attackers having low-powered moves, such as Salamence, Gyarados, Tyranitar. Movements of 70 or 75 power maximum. And moves like Cross Chop can only be used effectively by 2 Pokémon that are rare and slow. Heracross and Breloom both are catchable by Dug
Genuine question : in the jolteon section he says that "jolteon can enter into a thunderbolt and everything seems fine, but the it's suddenly thunder waved and then it is crippled for the rest of the game". Does t-wave bypass the bolt absorb inmunity to electric type moves?
I wonder if Raikou would be better as a lead than a cleaner. Toxic and CM does beat Zapdos, Rest can only accomplish so much without Roar. Another matchup fishy situation like Jynx without the sleep. Dugtrio not being a lead (unless if it’s also matchup fishing) also helps. I wish Rain Dish Ludicolo was better as well.
