These lyrics always make me sad. It's the ultimate broken dreams song. Some people are so strong and want to get to higher levels with the person they love. But they choose somebody that is broken, and they stick to level nomansland.
Attachment disorders can be very disruptive and this situation of powerlessness, broken dreams and returning to old patterns that you wanted to escape from is very sad. It's in my all time top 10. You sang and played it very beautiful.

I've heard the original many times, but never really followed the lyrics. I just listened to this and cried so hard my shoulders shook. What a powerful piece of hope and struggle. For some reason your voice made it so real. man this messed me up.

I almost cried. This song has a depth that few others have and a quiet sadness that blows my heart away. And yet, it is hopeful. And you pulled it off.

I remember that tiny black girl walking onto the huge Live Aid stage. Everyone was stunned by her performance. Unforgettable.
In 1969 I loved a girl , from afar , with lime green hair. All the other girls hated her, I admired her as she raged against the 60's machine. I don't remember her name and I don't know where she is today, but you bring back fond memories of that beautiful soul who expressed her mind of clarity for which no one else could see but me. I was too shy to approach her then, but later found that she was in love with me from afar also. Follow your feelings, accomplish your dreams , you only have one life and chances sometimes only come once.

So, this song has always been deep in my soul, since realizing I needed to be somewhere as a 16 year old. I saw Tracy Chapman live at the Point in Bryn Mawr, PA in 2012. This is such greatness. I love the truth in your voice.
I’ve just discovered this channel and every video the instrumentals and vocals have been phenomenal but Tracy Chapman had so much pain in her voice that I don’t think anyone will ever out top her on that song.

Fantastic cover. This song is actually, from a technical point, a little more difficult to sing than it may seem. And I just love the timbre of her voice.
Most comments will be about the beautiful girl. But as a very basic guitar player, I was captivated by the pick and fingerstyle method. I play this song without a pick and use finger style, so that was really fucking cool to see.

I'm not a guitar player, but I have to agree with you about the guitarist. His playing on "Dreams" is just as subtle and haunting as Lindsey Buckingham's on the original and his playing on "Jolene" is very crisp and clean.
This song brings tears to my eyes. My mom passed away and this was one of her favorite songs. The song was kind of what her life was like.
