Girls would also have a feminine ending -- EVA, KurbanOVA, denoting the person's sex, read "daughter". IN is the same type of marker, but the possessor is usually female, or mother, such as Rivkin is Rivka's son, while the daughter would be Rivkina. SKY (also SKOY, SKAYA For females) is more of an adjective suffix. Amerikansky means American, for example. A name like Dobrovolsky means "of good will". The ending, however, also can be interpreted as a possessive marker, Nikolsky means Nikolas's offspring. In general though, SKY ending names are rarely derived from parental lineage and are more descriptive in nature. They are also more associated with the Western parts of European Russia, Polish heritage and, to some extent, higher social class background.
