I think Eddie Izzard is one of the funniest comedians ever. He can reference history and talk about interesting things, instead of the typical routine and subject matter that a lot of comedians rely on. Eddie is brilliant at setting up these scenarios, complete with banter between multiple characters, combined with the facial expressions, and the body language..and the drag is so ridiculous - but it all works in concert to create a fantastic comic experience. Love him!~
Thank you for posting all the Dressed to Kill excerpts. This is one of my favorite stand up routines of all time. It made me a total Izzard fan. It's almost a shame that the act was so full of call backs that one looses a lot by not seeing it from beginning to end.
Anyone else feel a great deal of affection for, and comfort in the comedy of Eddie Izzard? For me, there's a few factors that I delight in - his brilliant use and abuse of language and words, the richly imaginative almost dream-like comedic imagery and the intelligence (and respect for intelligence).
Absolutely. I saw this when it first came out when I was growing up in San Francisco, it felt like a special designed and crafted for me personally. I often quote it to a very confused group of friends.
@@bongobob7079I think that it is one great thing about him (or her, if he/she/you/whoever prefers) is that his stage character is beyond stereotypes and boundaries of male/female, with ease.
I appreciate you're being complimentary but a British accent encompasses any accent from the British Isles. You've learnt A British accent. I promise you somebody from, for instance, the Welsh Valleys sounds very different from somebody from Aberdeen, or Bristol. They're all British accents. Izzard's accent is RP: received pronunciation. It has no regional home. Once upon a time, if one hoped to get anywhere one had to lose one's regional accent and instead acquire RP. RP was especially favoured in the film industry. American films, where the real money always is, expected British actors to have"Briddish accent" meaning RP. Most Americans wouldn't identify a Mancunian accent as "Bridish" despite it being truly a British accent. As for RP? Times have changed. If you were fortunate enough to have gone to an expensive private school where RP is all that was voiced, you'd now be at a drawback. RP very much works against you nowadays Everybody likes to pretend they're salt of the earth types Even younger menbers of the Royal Family try to fool us they've been brought up on a Sarf London housing estate A tiny, mixed up, past-it little country, wilfully dumbing itself down..
He is right on the money about the Hallelujah bit. I go to Christian mass every Sunday and sometimes I have to stop myself from laughing at how "joyous" we sound lol
It probably was the best line. But let's be honest it wasn't the cleverest standup we've heard. Not really on a par with Al Murray if you want plenty of history and facts in you comedy.
Eddie's tangents are brilliant I knew someone who went to the same show twice and although the basic subjects were there she said both shows were so different
As a ex Catholic the observation about church of England sermons is spot on 😆 the first church of England service I ever attended (for a christening) felt more like a women's institute meeting rather than church . The complete lack of verses about fire and brimstone and turning wine into blood was most disappointing 😂
Never been a Christian but went to a " proddy" school where no one was interested. Religion is basically dead, life for most people in UK is just a struggle for survival a lot of poverty.
Oh god the singing. That brings back bad memories. I've just escaped from having to go to church. Not only are the songs so dreary or benign, when you don't believe in any of it anyway it sort of takes the shine of things.
This deserves a bump. With Christmas only a week away, only Eddie can make us laugh at ourselves as we rush around like idiots. Merry Christmas, and thanks Eddie.
I know I'm years late to this comment(I've rewatched this many times over the years) in guessing he would do this anyway as a transvestite, but there's a reason stage performers wear makeup. It extenuates facial expression and only works in his favor as he makes some of his jokes work thru expression alone! Truly one of the greats!
He doesn't identify as straight. He identifies himself as a woman who likes women. So (s)he is kind of a trans lesbian, which is probably not the correct term and the LGBT+ community might strike me dead for expressing myself poorly, but you know what I mean. 😅
@@TheMILFproject Well, a trans woman would technically be a lesbian if she were only into women, so you're not wrong. Eddie is kind of vague in describing himself and just kind of goes with it. Last I knew, he considered himself transgender, but doesn't care about pronouns.
