I'm growing some of the very colorful Haps that only grow to be about 6 inches in my 75g African chiclid tank. The rest will be colorful Mbunas. Great list. Subscribed. Amazing tank and fish you got there!
I’ve had some frustrating haps too, but it seems like over 50% of the peacocks I have had turned into jerks. I’ve had better luck with the haps for sure.
I just remembered that the first night I put the johanni in that tank, when I checked on it before I went to bed, the johanni was on one side of the tank and EVERYONE ELSE was on the other. That's why I thought for sure he was gonna have to go.
Even when they aren’t hurting other fish when they do that, it sure makes the whole fish keeping experience less fun. I think it also stresses the other fish out, which can lead to illness.
@@CichlidCharmer yeah I think so. I’ve actually never seen one in person and the one on Ron’s looks a little more white but they do have a darker coloration picture available. But they have similar pattern marking and is definitely not what they put on the bag. The dots and the side and the anal and dorsal fin match up with the coloration patterns. I would say with 75% confidence. If you said the seller was not your standard seller, which I’ve certainly dealt with before, it could be a hybrid.
It's funny all the easy temperament Qualities you said about your dolphin. My dolphin is pretty much identical to yours in size and color, but is the tank boss. FOR SURE. ton of haps, peacocks, mbuna and 4 convicts in there. I have about a 5 5/6 inch johanni that is an about mother f@%ker, and I couldn't take it anymore, so he went in with the big Boys. He did his best to take on anyone with half the notion of Thinking they were going to keep him in line, and I'm not gonna lie, when I went to sleep that night I thought tor sure when I woke up I would have to rehome him. Nope, that dolphin had his ass whipped into shape and hiding behind a rock pile. Anytime that the johanni even looked like he was going to attempt to swim out the dolphin was on his ass like flies on 💩. After a couple weeks the johnni became the 2nd in charge so the dolphin game him some space. But if he started causing too many problems the dolphin would run his ass into his corner for a time out! No one messes with that dolphin at all. I would say he's aggressive, as in he typically won't hurt you, but it's probably because no one wants to challenge him either. Crazy how fish can be so individually different from the same species.
That sounds like some descriptions of the dolphin I have heard. Yours is the man! You’re right, it’s really strange how they can be so different. It was probably weird seeing my aloof, peaceful dolphin.
The zebra are a menace, non communal unless you have larger more dominant fish, don’t recommend mixing with mbuna or small fish of any kind, females especially

All haps on the list, I’ve been planning a peacock & hap mix tank, now I’m second guessing with your frustration with the peacocks 🤔

Thank you for another great video, now you convinced me to get a astatotilapia.
🙏 I hope he’s as cool as Zeke!

Love the list. My favorite is the giant hap.
Thanks, Steve! Am I correct? He looks like a giant hap to you, too, right?

Yeah, maybe a slightly more awesome version of one 🤩

@@CichlidCharmer I needed more red as I had to rehome my red albino dragon blood. He was a nightmare and he killed my ruby red.

I hate peacocks. I have hap only tank. No issues.
