This advice is totally on-spot. We had a green/yellow algae problem and following treatment to kill the algae the pool was cloudy where we couldn't even see the second entry step in the shallow end. With the chemistry balanced we were simply unable to clear the water even while cleaning the filter on an hourly basis. We shut the pump down and applied a product called "Clean and Clear" to the water surface as suggested. Within 2 hours the pool was clearing. The following morning it was crystal clear with a copious amount of white "solids" on the bottom. After removing the filter and lining up the system to "waste" we were able to "gently" vacuum the "solids" off the pool bottom (in some spots it appeared several inches thick). Following another application and a vacuuming the following day we now have a crystal clear pool. A great video and a great help. We had been having the problem for quite some time and the "pros" (who sell a lot of chemicals) didn't seem to know of what I spoke when I told them what we had done. This WORKS! THANKS!!!
This works great!👍🏻😎 The KEY is that after you put the Flock in you need to WAIT 36-48 HOURS exactly like he said. Last year I got anxious and vacuumed it up after the first night and the pool stayed cloudy through the whole summer. This time I let it sit 2 days and the water looks crystal clear and fantastic!!
Ellen Zhang I used Leslies flock from Leslies pool store. But just about any flock product will work. Circulate setting on my filter did not work for me though,so I just ran the filter for an hour to let the flock mix in then turned it off. The trick is to do nothing for a couple of days and let it sink completely before you vacuum it up like he said!
After searching multiple forums and websites for a fix, this procedure finally cleared up my pool. Thank you so much for posting this. My pool is now sparkling clean Thanks to this video.
Here to testify: HTH Drop Off worked like gold. Complete game changer. I've owned my pool for nine years. No one has ever mentioned flocculant to solve a cloudy pool. Less than $15 at Walmart and I have a clear pool in less than 48hrs! I'll be flocc'ing at the start of Spring and late Summer from now on. Thanks again for the video! Appreciated! #cloudypool #flooculant #hthdropoff
I take my hat off to you. Unbelievable how fast this worked. Thank you so much. I d spent a week trying to sort this out and it is amazing how quick and efficient this was. Thank you from over here..
Walmart's version of FLOC is called Pool Clear FLOCCULANT, by HTH. It costs about $8.50 and the 1Kg (2.2lbs) will handle an average size (16 x 32) pool. Don't be afraid to use two containers if you have a larger than average pool.
this video is spot on.. patience is everything.. My pH was right, shocked the pool, hardness was perfect, used phosphate remove and clear bright and I couldn't get the fogginess out.. I followed the instructions, waited 36 hours, vacuumed to waste and voila..clean pool...thank you!!!
THANK-YOU! (All Caps intended). I tried to clear up the pool by heavily shocking and ensuring PH & Alkalinity were at the right levels.... checked at pool store and levels were great. Still cloudy after 2 1/2 months!! Took your advice yesterday and today pool is beautiful... Thanks!!
Definitely going to try this later this week. My PH is at 7.3 right now so I think I should be good. This is my first year with a pool, and it's great to see someone with some experience sharing their tips. Thanks!
Thank you so much, you've saved my life (well, okay, my swimming pool!) I was getting so frustrated with a cloudy pool. I had added a load of flocculant but however much I vacuumed I just couldn't get rid of the f***ing crap at the bottom. Eventually it dawned on me that it was all just coming back through the filter and for whatever reason the filter just wasn't collecting it. That's when I saw your video and realised I should put the pump on the 'waste' setting (or 'desague' as they call it here in Spain). Bingo! It means I have to top up the water level, as you say, but definitely worth it. Now I just have to backwash the filter to get all the crap out. [Note here for any English-speaking expats living in Spain, like me, who may be confused by the terminology: for 'backwash' you need to look for 'lavado' and for 'rinse' you need 'enjague']. Totally off topic but I love the accent btw. I have a Canadian mate in Madrid who speaks just like you. Can't get enough of that Canadian pronunciation of 'out': a little bit Irish, a little bit Scottish, but 100% Canadian!
Thanks for this video. I have had a cloudy pool for a couple of months and couldn't work out why it wasn't clearing. Tried thew usual chemicals but still no luck until I tried your suggestions. This is what I did.... 1. Set the pump to the 'backwash' and then 'rinse' setting to clean the filter and added water to the correct level. 2. Checked the PH level and added chemical to reduce it and put 'recirculate' setting on to mix it for about 1 hour. 3. Checked PH levels - All ok. 4. Added the floc chemical to the pool and put the 'recirculate' setting on for about 30 minutes to distribute the floc then turned the pump off and left the pool overnight. 5. In the morning, the cloudy residue had sunk to the bottom and then used the 'waste' setting on the pump to suck up the residue from the bottom at the same time adding water to the pool raising the water to the correct level. Then turned off the pump. 6. Left the pump off and waited until the following morning and again used the 'waste' setting on the pump to suck up the resulting residue from the bottom at the same time adding water until the correct level reached. Now the pool is nice and clean - I can now see the bottom without problem! :)
Thank you! I have an above ground pool with a sand filter and I've been going through comments trying to figure out how to do this method with my setup. This will hopefully work.
Wow... anyone who didn’t already know this priceless information, consider yourself blessed. It took me a couple years to figure out a routine to get my pool clear again, and this guy just nailed it. This is exactly what I do to the T. Great info dude!
this is just a straight up how to video.that has proven to work.good job.!!I'm on my fourth year with a 10,000 above ground. flocc it for first time 2 months ago and was amazed at the results..worked perfectly..the vacuuming takes patience..Its impossible to not stir the cloud..after letting it settle two more times the water in the pool was clearer then the water i was putting back in from the hose..ha ha..go figure..after that its really just a daily routine to maintain circulation, filtration and balance.I still struggle sometimes but it's only because "ya can't ignore your pool whatsoever" if your not "workin" on it then ya need to be floatin&floppin&divin&dunkin in it!!!.. splash on my friend!!
Important info!!!! never shock the pool water together with floc. it simply won't do the job. floc by it self is the real deal.. worked for great for me. Thank God!!
Pool liners are expensive...This treatment will extend the life of your pool liner. Under ideal conditions a liner can last up to 25 years. In many parts of Canada where pools are frozen for months at a time, the elasticity of the liner will diminish, cutting ten years off the life of a liner. The use of shock and excessive chlorine will also affect and dry out the liner. This is one way to reduce the use of shock and chlorine....therefore extending the life of your liner.
I have a 12 x 30 easy set pool. not waste or recirculate. I've done the floc and it works except I put in my vacuum very very slow and when it starts to suck up the crap, it blows it out two small holes on the side if the vacuum and goes everywhere! I'm going nuts with this.
Would that I had my own pool. I would certainly take this information to heart. Alas I live in the UK, where properties tend to be smaller &, even with the Gulf Stream, we're a little far north to make swimming outdoors comfortable, unless in the warmest summer months, which seems to amount to about six weeks if you're lucky.
I use dish soap. Put two squirts of it in a bucket with some cold/warm water. I dump it along the perimeter. The bubbles never reach the filter because it is so little. It cleans the top and puts the scum in the skimmer. Bonus. . . it cleans the stairs and liner. *Do not use expensive dish soap. . . I just use Dollar Tree soap. So much cheeper than FLOC.
Just to make sure I get correct right before I start to vacuum out the bottom sludge I should remove my filter cartridge to dump waste water out of pool? I have an Intex above ground pool.
Mr. Suction. this floccing worked amazing!!!! I have chased cloudy pool conditions numerous times taking lots of money and time. This was quick and easy!!! Why does the pool get cloudy when the chlorine is high? Is there some common reasons I can start to investigate?
When too much chlorine is added to the pool water, calcium can solidify into calcium carbonate. The solid microparticles of the calcium carbonate cause the water to cloud.
I don't have any filters. Just added flocculant yesterday at 8pm and today after vacuuming it's looking better. question is, when can I swim again? and how much time is needed to pass after applying peroxide hydrogen?
Been fighting the fog for days. The pool has become a nightmare and really tired of the shoppes telling us, "Oh buy this, and then buy this and ..." you get the point. After algicide, sodium bicarbonate, super shock, stabilizer, conditioner, clarifier, PH up, chlorine adjustments and sure I'm missing something we tried ... going to attempt this step X step and I seriously hope this works as the pool is used for 'therapy'. Gotta get the 'happy pill' somehow. Can swimming be done while the floc is still filtering out at the end, after all the vacuuming or do you recommend waiting for a certain amount of time? We have a sand filter, so not sure how often we would need to wash the sand. Thank you!!!
Hi....yes you can use the pool while there is still floc in it. The floc is not toxic. The biggest thing is to let it settle after adding the floc. Turn the pump off and let it sit for a good day and a half. In simple terms...mix the floc into the pool, let it settle then vacumm the sludge on the bottom without the sand or cartridge. After vacuuming to waste you can return to filtering by sand or cartridge...Watch your little pressure guage after you vacumm...you'll notice it go up....just backwash lots for a day or two.
Hi I used a bioguard power floc two days ago same way how you posted and i let my water sit for more than 56 hours the water is not cloudy like before but still not clear 100%i mean still cloudy what should i do now repeat applying the power floc one more time before i vacuum it or after. (my pool is above ground 16x30) and i used 500 ml power floc as told me in the pool store. All the chemical was perfect but the water was extremely cloudy before i use the floc ,now i can see the bottom but still not clear, is still cloudy. Thanks.
Your assuming that every pool filter has a multi valve. Sand filters and some D.E. filter may have a multi valve. So what do you do if you don't have a multi vavle?
If you don't have a multi valve...(and by the way, I have a cartridge filter without a multi-valve)...simply open the filter housing and remove the cartridge while your flocing. When it's all clear and done, put the cartridge back in. Remember to take it out again and rinse it a few times in the first couple of days after floc. Hope that helps :)
I have a question. We have a 1,000 gallon above ground pool with a small filter and is cloudy. I have shocked the pool and the PH and Chlorine are good, but still cloudy. The pump is small, cannot recirculate, but can take the filter out and let it run, no way to vacuum; not set up for it. What can I do?
Hello, I got small pool with small light blue mosaic inside. I can get clear water in the pool but the water inside the filter gets light blue colour same as the mosaic after 8 hour filtering. PH and Clorum normal and using algicide. Can you tell me the cause. Can it be the mosaic tearing apart in dust particles? Or is there any kind of algae that has light blue colour? Thanks Jorge Dias
I was really hoping this would work for me. 15k gallon IG pool, PH is at 7.2, with cloudy blue water. Used 4lbs of floc (predissolved in a bucket) and circulated - its been 24 hours of no flow and there's been no improvement whatsoever. Pool was green 2 weeks ago, and I solved that at least - ran the pump 24-7 for a week, cleaning the filter every day, adding the right chem and that turned it blue but still cloudy. Going to wait another day but figured I'd see some improvement by now?
Let it sit....if you look closely you should see the top of the water (like the first foot or so) nice and clear. All those particles will settle to the bottom....give it at least another day.
I did. 48 hours of no flow. Water is still cloudy with some marginal improvement. Before I could barely see the 1st step of the pool, now I can see the 1st step and the 2nd step is murky - but the rest of the pool is still as cloudy as it was when I started. Is the only other solution at this point to empty the pool and refill? I used "Maintain 2405M Pool Pro Granular Floc, 5-Pound". Something I'm missing that would cause the floc to not work effectively?
Jamal S. Another tip would be to test for chloramines, there microscopic elements that prevent chlorine from doing its job, depending on how high its shows that they are you will have to nuke the pool with shock, this was a problem one of my costumer was having
Long story short, we tested for everything. Turns out our TDS levels were extremely high - i think the floc only added to the problem. So we wound up having to empty the pool and refill. Oh well, it was worth a shot!
How long will the water stay clear? Our pool is mainly used for my child and I apply sunblock before she swims each time. After set up I did an initial shock and run the sand filter six hours a day. It was clear for three days, the past two days its been cloudy. I would prefer not to have her swim in more chemical than needed. Thanks for your expertise!
If your pool is clear and you vacuum it regularly and skim the top, and keep your Ph and chlorine to the right levels it will last the summer. This tip is great for two things: Opening the pool after it's been closed for the winter, and after many weeks of heavy usage when the water just won't clear up. Hope that helps.
Just wondering how you would recommend using flock if I don’t have a recirculate option on my filter? Could I get away with throwing my sump pump in there with a hose on it and it would spin the water around?
Is this method possible with an above ground pool? If so, should it be done as a preventive maintenance routine? What i mean is, is there a way to imitate the step were you set your pump to bypass? I have a sump pump but I'm wondering if it'll work for that, since it sits on the bottom.
is this like a product called phos-free that gets out all the phosphates out of your pool water that algae need as a food to be there in the first place? I used phos-free and it sludged up at the bottom leaving the rest crystal clear same way u described in vacuumed it up some of it passed through my cartridge filter back into my pool it took like a week to totally clear up but when it did my water looked perfect.
I've been using this method for ages and it really works! Normally it's a mid-summer thing as mentioned in the video but when I opened the pool last month I dropped one of the corners of the tarp and a load of leaves and dirt ended up in the deep end. Scooped and vacuumed everything out but you still couldn't see a foot down, went to the pool store and bought Floc and the "expert" said nope won't work bring in a water sample. 24 hours in and I can now see the bottom perfectly so I'll give it another day. Pool stores are a scam and will sell you anything and everything which can be fixed for under $10!
PLS HELP, 1ST TIME OWNER- I added shock Xtra blue at least 6-7 bags, but the water still cloudy and I see algae on the bottom of the pool. Can use the floc after I putting all the shocks? As well, When can I put the sanitizers and salt to the pool? Thanks in advance
Hi great video. My problem is maybe a little different. A piece of home fiberglass insulation ended up in my pool. Do you think that floc will have the same effect? suctionplease
The only way to get the sludge from the bottom of the pool is to vacuum it out. If the pool has a pump and skimmer, you should be able to hook up a vacuum. If theres no skimmer (maybe it's just a really small pool for kids) then you might just want to drain it and start with new water.
Okay, I'm confused. You say to "recirculate" the cloudy water, and NOT run it through the filter. What exactly does that mean? Throw the water out and replace it with new water? In that case, A/ why bother to flocc if you're changing the water? and B/ it costs $800 to fill my pool with "new" water. Or does "recirculate" mean something else? The only two options I have are to drain out (ie, throw away) or run water through the filtering system.
It means bypass your sand or cartridge filter. If the floc runs through it will clog the sand or filter. If you have a cartridge filter just remove it and let the pump run to circulate the water. Hope that helps.
This is a good idea, But on my 10,000 gal in-ground if I put my valve to waste it would dump 3000 gal. out before I could even come close to finishing vacuming up up the floc. No 3/4" garden hose is a match for the Hayward pump. This is better on larger gal. pools where the water level won't drop as much.
My husband pour the liquid flucon our cloudy pool and low and behold it pour rain hard. The next day the saw all the residue at the bottom and he started on our polaris vacuum. Since the polaris moves rapidly as it vacuums the pool well it disturbs all the residue from the bottom and now the darn pool is cloudy again.
I have a DE filter with a bumper. It does not have a recirculate nor waste setting. Will it be okay to use and vacuum flocculant with this set up? Thank you for any information you can provide.
You are correct. I also have a cartridge filter....simply open the filter housing and remove the cartridge while your flocing. When it's all clear and done, put the cartridge back in. Remember to take it out again and rinse it a few times in the first couple of days after floc. Hope that helps :)
I failed to mention that in the case of a cartridge filter, you should remove the filter while you re-circulate the water. A normal sand filter will have a re-circulate setting where a cartridge filter may not. Please leave comments and let me know of your successes.
suctionplease hi I have a Hayward sand filter my ph level is perfect my chlorine level is good , the pool is good to swim in because all my chemicals are balanced the only problem is the cloudiness of course and so I've added about 10 oz of perfectly clear water brite to clear the water but I'm wondering if that doesn't work which setting shoukd I put my sand filter on when I flock it? I know you said waste so do I turn the switch for the skimmer off and set up the manual vacuum or do I keep the skimmer on skim and set up the vacuum likr I normally would? I'm sorry I'm probably sounding so confused right now but I'm just not understand the part where I put the filter on waste mode when vacuuming? Like do I just put it on waste mode and then vacuum? sincerely new pool owner my pool is a 16 by 35 inground pool I believe lol it's about 25000 gallons
Yes....absolutely. The body of water doesn't make a difference. Just top up the water first. Remember after all the setiment settles to the bottom, you're going to vacumm it to "Waste"...so you'll lose some water with it.
What if I flocked and it didn't work. I mean it was still cloudy after 48hours and didn't really seem to settle too much however it was green and I shocked it and cleared it and then it was cloudy. Once I balanced I flocked just like you said and like I said still cloudy after 48hours and didn't really seem to settle. I did vacuum still and did see some stuff come out. My question is should I floc again or filter, balance and floc then?
Your pool liner is an expensive item, and in our northern climate, liner life is reduced from the cold and dryness alone. The addition of chlorine and shock will also cut the life of your liner...and this is why I lean toward this type if fix....less chemicals equals longer liner life. The pool suppliers that don't like what I have to say and leave a nasty comment...know that I will remove the comment.
Bob Frasure Next time this happens to you go to pool store and grab a small bucket of trichlor. You will only need about a cup. Your chlorine levels will be high but it will clear it if you run your system for 24hrs.
I am doing it the third year in a row, so this is my appreciation comment. Great video, clear and easy to follow. Thank you

Thank you! I have an above ground pool with a sand filter and I've been going through comments trying to figure out how to do this method with my setup. This will hopefully work.
I can't thank you enough! This worked PERFECTLY! I've spent so much on pool supplies, a quick $10 bottle like you said fixed it in no time!
Good! Glad I could help. :)
This is a problem with pool owners who have sand filters. This doesnt happen with DE or cartridge filters
That stuff that us settling is going thru your filter instead of the filter doing its job.
Wow... anyone who didn’t already know this priceless information, consider yourself blessed.

This worked for me,you're a life saver man!
8 buy 4 metter pool how much flock do I put in thanks
Hi
I used a bioguard power floc two days ago same way how you posted
and i let my water sit for more than 56 hours
the water is not cloudy like before but still not clear 100%i mean still cloudy
what should i do now repeat applying the power floc one more time
before i vacuum it or after.
(my pool is above ground 16x30) and i used 500 ml power floc as told me
in the pool store.
Thanks
Jorge Dias
Hope that helps.
what about for an above ground pool ?
Just wondering how you would recommend using flock if I don’t have a recirculate option on my filter? Could I get away with throwing my sump pump in there with a hose on it and it would spin the water around?
You just save me a lot of money , thank you so much , that works excellent for me, thank you.
Still the Best Advice on The internet
Thanks bud. Needed a refresher course and there it was,,
this is an un-floc-ing believable. thanks
Worked like a charm, thanks my friend
unbelievable worked perfect thanks .but u waste lots of water but it's worth it
I have cartridge! I don’t have the “waste” option what do I do ??
Is this method possible with an above ground pool? If so, should it be done as a preventive maintenance routine?
What i mean is, is there a way to imitate the step were you set your pump to bypass? I have a sump pump but I'm wondering if it'll work for that, since it sits on the bottom.
How fast does this product work? How fast should i see results?
Thank you
is this like a product called phos-free that gets out all the phosphates out of your pool water that algae need as a food to be there in the first place?
Get the floc outta here.
why ?
Great video thanks for sharing appreciate the help
PLS HELP, 1ST TIME OWNER- I added shock Xtra blue at least 6-7 bags, but the water still cloudy and I see algae on the bottom of the pool. Can use the floc after I putting all the shocks?
As well, When can I put the sanitizers and salt to the pool?
Thanks in advance
Will this work with a salt water pool? Will it remove the salt from the pool that has already been added?
Thanks for the video!
I had a professional who did as you said but the pool is still cloudy. Could it be that he didn't put enough floc?
Hi great video. My problem is maybe a little different. A piece of home fiberglass insulation ended up in my pool. Do you think that floc will have the same effect? suctionplease
Alakayable I forgot to mention that it's a 24ft above ground pool
Do I close all the valves and only leave the skimmer valve open when vacuuming?
How to I Floc an above ground pool that doesn't have a vacuum like your saying. How would I get rid of the sludge after floc?
The only way to get the sludge from the bottom of the pool is to vacuum it out. If the pool has a pump and skimmer, you should be able to hook up a vacuum. If theres no skimmer (maybe it's just a really small pool for kids) then you might just want to drain it and start with new water.
suctionplease maybe don't assume anything is a very large pool I just don't have a skimmer
David Meister Buy a skimmer if the pool is an inflatable or whatever.
I can’t find floc anywhere in person. Only online. :(
Okay, I'm confused.
This flocc stuff works so good I don't even use a filtration system 😋
Your tips is very helpful.
Wow. Vacuum the pool slowly by hand...not one of those robot things. Do it slow and don't disturb the water. Swrong witchu?
We Are The Coleys ya I only have the robot as well. Guess I’m stuck with a cloudy pool
Probably the biggest thing you missed, if you have a cartridge filter, just go ahead and remove it from the filter housing.
I have a DE filter with a bumper. It does not have a recirculate nor waste setting. Will it be okay to use and vacuum flocculant with this set up? Thank you for any information you can provide.
bulletsnr I have same question
The floc I have says NOT to use it with DE filters. Maybe there are different types for DE. Ask your pool store
You don't floc a DE filter or it will really clog up. Some DE systems say to not use a floc. Then what?
Like do I just put it on waste mode and then vacuum? sincerely new pool owner my pool is a 16 by 35 inground pool I believe lol it's about 25000 gallons
if the pool didn't come clean after flocking can I repeat the process ?
Yes you can repeat....the biggest thing to remember is to make sure your PH is at level or high. If your ph is too low the floc will not work
Dear God! Thanks so much. I am losing my mind! My husband keeps emptying half the water and refilling it. OMG!!!!!! Thank you. Pray for me.
Thanks I have never tried this method
could i do this with a intex above ground pool
Yes....absolutely. The body of water doesn't make a difference. Just top up the water first. Remember after all the setiment settles to the bottom, you're going to vacumm it to "Waste"...so you'll lose some water with it.
okay thank you so much :D
Amazing thank you so much for your video
you have really pretty eyes ..thanks for the advice,my pool is cloudy :( we have tried everything but flock
Use two squirts of dish soap. It works very fast and you don't have to stop your pump or vacuum right after.
This worked perfectly for me! Thanks!
my ph test getting 6.8 now what i have to do
md farid what you have to do is jump in the pool.
U put sodas

I'm not sure how you get that but I'm a huge Jimmy fan,,,,,so thanks! :)
You have to use algecide to kill the algae first. Add algecide kill, let it circulate for a day and then floc again.
Why do you keep looking back over your shoulder at the pool? Is there a monster slowly swimming towards you? lol
***** yawn...bored...sleep...zzzzz
***** yawn...bored....sleepy...zzzz
Thank you! Great video!
Great advice!!
Why don't we just drain the pool and fill it up again? It's about the same amount of time
yeah, try that on 60 000 liters pool. good luck. Your parents would kill you kid.
THIS WORKS!! thank you!!
my pump cant recirculate
I did this few times waited about 12 hours works a little then i saw this waited 2days and it fkn works
or.. orrrr... just keep the chem level at a proper balance. that or just tear it down
Your pool liner is an expensive item, and in our northern climate, liner life is reduced from the cold and dryness alone. The addition of chlorine and shock will also cut the life of your liner...and this is why I lean toward this type if fix....less chemicals equals longer liner life.
The pool suppliers that don't like what I have to say and leave a nasty comment...know that I will remove the comment.
FIX THE CHEMICALS TO FIX ISSUE NOT MASK THEM!
I don't have waste or recirculate
Same here. I have an above ground pool. I think for above ground pools you take the filter out and open the drain plug to let out the water.
Bob Frasure Next time this happens to you go to pool store and grab a small bucket of trichlor. You will only need about a cup. Your chlorine levels will be high but it will clear it if you run your system for 24hrs.
Thanks for sharing this
KEEP ALK ABOVE 100 TOO...& SHOCK!!! WHEN HOT OR CLOUDY!
absolutely helpful
thanks for the tips!!!
Why not just dump the pool instead of,doing all this
JR T it costs hella money
@@rexm115 Got it
I understand that but I was looking at other videos !!!! 😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣
Flocc it !!!
Floccing heck it works
Wtf how bout a rocket silence lesson? lol no way man it's not that complicated ... Read the water add as needed.. Simple
