    Great topic! One tip from a cancer survivor, now struggling with recurrence after eight years 😢: The tea with the most EGCG is Gyokuro. You can get it in well sorted tea shops. Make sure not to use too hot water (80 degr. C) and let it stand for 3 minutes (first infusion) and 11 minutes (second infusion). All the best for all of us struggling with this insiduous disease! ❤

    I try to drink green tea daily since I was diagnosed with breast cancer as my Mom suggested it. She came across a study from China in regards to green tea and breast cancer and sounded quite promising.

    So, wait a minute... we're NOT supposed to eat or drink antioxidants due to interference with chemotherapy?!? I wish someone had told me that back in December.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  10 місяців тому +5

      Let us clarify. Normal intake of antioxidants in dietary sources is safe and normal. Taking high doses by consuming supplements or high volumes of tea, etc. is not recommended.

    Would green tea have the same effect as turmeric on a person taking tamoxifen? I.e. might it interfere with the effectiveness of tamoxifen?

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  9 місяців тому +2

      There is evidence that turmeric supplements, particularly those containing high doses of curcumin, can interfere with the metabolism and effectiveness of tamoxifen, an estrogen receptor modulator used to treat breast cancer. However, the use of turmeric as a spice in food appears to be safe. There is no interaction between turmeric and the aromatase inhibitors.

    Once my mom got Stage III esophageal cancer, 5FU chemotherapy and radiation therapy did cause tumor shrinkage but drinking green tea afterwards did not stop the cancer from returning and spreading to her lungs and killing her quickly.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  2 місяці тому

      It’s heartbreaking when treatments seem to work, but the cancer still returns. While green tea has some health benefits, it’s not a proven method for preventing recurrence, and cancer’s progression can often be unpredictable despite best efforts.

    Please explain why my medical oncologist is ordering a uric acid lab test.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  10 місяців тому +1

      A uric acid test is often part of the "panel" of blood tests that are routinely done when people are being monitored for side effects, etc. In this case, it's just a part of the tests that are all run at once. In people on particular medications, monitoring uric acid may be important. This question would be entirely reasonable to ask of your medical team.

    I am confused and scared. In a previous video, you said it was only SUPPLEMENTS that one should not use during radiation. Green tea is not a supplement, yet you are suggesting it should not be used during treatment. Now i am wondering about my breakfast of blueberries and strawberries that i continued with during treatment because they aren't supplements either. Should i not have gad that? And if ok because they aren't supplements, why would green tea be contraindicated? Please clarify. Thanks!

      Hi, after breast cancer stage 2A I went on to 4 rounds of chemo and 16 rounds of radiation. My oncologist told me to stop supplements including green tea during both treatments. Supplements or teas that protect cell also protect cancer cells during treatment. You don’t want them protected. You actually want them exposed so treatment would be more effective. After all my treatments I got back on my D3, magnesium, probiotics, Omega 3. I may start back on green tea soon.

      There‘s one green tea type that contains no caffeine. It is called Koba sannenbancha. It has almost 0 caffeine because the leaves of the tea plants are harvested only after 3 years. At the beginning they contain normal amount of caffeine and reduce their amounts within the three years.
      I drink it a lot. But I also drink regular coffee. Also only 1 cup/day, but I divide it into 2 small portions. For me totally enough.

    • @yerbba

      Matcha is generally considered safe for most people, including those with heart disease, but it does contain caffeine. While it's lower than in many other forms of coffee or tea, it's still important to monitor your caffeine intake if you have heart conditions.

      @yerbba  4 місяці тому

      While green tea is generally healthy, it’s important to be cautious during chemotherapy. Some studies suggest that green tea, particularly its antioxidant compounds like EGCG, -may interact with certain anti-cancer drugs, such as doxorubicin or tamoxifen, potentially reducing their effectiveness. It’s best to discuss this with your oncologist.

    This is the most racist video that you have produced. What does having a drink of anything correlate to not working and having access to information. Everyone has access to information and if you think they don’t there is something called a library where you have access to the internet. Patients not looking for additional forms of treatment are usually younger and have greater access to technology. This also is countered by the fact that 90% of breast cancer patients are using nonconventional treatments because they have no faith in medicine.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  2 місяці тому +4

      It sounds like this video triggered something. Access to information is based on a multitude of things such as visual and other sensory disabilities, media literacy, access to libraries and pharmacies, which are actually not available in so-called "library deserts" and "pharmacy deserts." We are not quite sure what you're referring to, but the bottom line is that people who take in complementary therapies differ from people who do not. Race has little to do with it. It's also important to know that, while trust may play some role, most people actually combine complementary and alternative therapies with so-called conventional therapies. We hope this is helpful.
