- Mike Luoma takes us up onto a hill south of Gates Pond in Berlin, Massachusetts for a look at the huge boulder called King Philip Rock -- said to be a landmark meeting place for Metacom, a Wampanoag leader the Europeans called King Philip, namesake of the first Indigenous uprising and push back against encroaching English colonists, "King Philips War", in mid-1670's in New England.

There is also Anawan Rock in Rehoboth MA. Named after Philip's successor who was captured here, ending the war, it's a very large conglomerate of pudding stone. Natives visit and hold ceremonies here.
Love looking in this area at the landscape and realizing that the colonials were not the first people to inhabit this land. The glaciers left these rocks that were like pebbles in a glacier that was a mile high.We have sizable rocks, similar to this on our property in No.Harvard.It seems likely these rocks were used as landmarks in locating trails and meeting up with other tribal members.
I can’t believe it’s next door I’m checking it out tomorrow with my grandson wow😮
Pretty big ,but doesn't compare to the Green mountain giant in whitingham VT
That's impressive. But also check out Madison Boulder, NH.
