Sometimes I just sit in front of the computer and stare at the code or watch a tutorial that’s relevant to what I need to do. Then hopefully some spark of inspiration hits. Is this directly productive, no…but it allows the possibility of finding that “in” that lets me get back into full swing. Better than sitting on the coach watching TV where there is no chance of saying mid show, hey I am going to go work on this now.

Great points. Don't be disappointed if the retention doesn't drop on that part of the video. Many people who watch this may not be in the not-making-progress stage, they are just curious to know what you have to offer, so they use it if, just in case, that scenario happens.
To me, I'm good now and I'm doing everything on plan. So I didn't pause the video and kept watching.

To take that small task even further, I always set the next task I plan to work on as In Progress at the end of the day. No need to decide what I should work on when I come back and lowers the effort required to start.

With how life keeps "suddenly having stuff that involves me", I need to move to a mountain to start writing a method.

Even if you're not writing a formal game-design doc, having some kind of outline / task list is really helpful. If you can, include any internal/external dependencies, or things where X has to happen-before Y. That way, when your brain is getting gummed-up from one area, you can check your list to see what else needs to be done (and is ready to be worked on).
It's really a mini-version of project management, but it's also good as a tool for keeping yourself/your team motivated and making forward-progress.

Planing is already done in the ideation phase, no hesitation about what to do, just write tasks in the notebook for each day to be easier to focus and keep track of what is done. There is a progress, but researching takes more than 50% of the time. Also a lot of testing and adjusting, the curse of perfectionists, you know... I don't want to use assets, because I do 2D and 3D by myself, and that slows the things a lot more, but can't sacrifice the uniqueness of my twisted and complex ideas and change them according to the assets, if I do it the result will be something else, not my ideas. Also it's less likely there will be assets suitable to them and even there is, fixing and adjusting the assets will take the same or more time. So no short cuts for me and things will go slower.

I always learn something new, or finally get something after banging my head on the wall for a while
I get a confidence boost, hit a wall again then fall back into the pit of despair until I crawl back up, get a boost again then repeat the cycle. Like climbing a mountain only to find an even bigger mountain.
    Damn Dunning-Kruger effect!😢

Didn't watch that roadmap video yet, but I will do it now. However, I gotta say that despite not investing as well as possible my time (skipped some days, didn't work as many hours as I would like), I'm progressing quite well (and indeed I'm doing what you say on the video; everyday I open the engine and everyday I think of doing stuff and either wite it down or investigate the subject, and most days I do stuff, for example today I fixed 1 bug of the gameplay side and made the whole menu and submenus template system).
I kept watching the video till the end cuz this is like my lil break before going back to doing stuff in like 40 mins, however in my case the issue is myself; I'm an expert at procrastinating always, so it's hard to do stuff that require too much effort, except if I have to do it and there is no other way round (like when I worked). I'm enjoying the learning process, the building the game, etc. but I'm just too good at procrastinating. But we are fixing that.

I am very aware I can't comprehend code (been trying for 8+ years) and struggle from task paralysis and forcing myself to do things (even things I love) tends to make me hate doing them.
I still have a massive need to do game dev, but the ability to fulfill that need is not very good.
