Just a fact, It's insane that In last 4 years unified punjab region has produced 3 Olympic Javelin medals..... 2 Golds....1 silver!!!! Both athletes are born less than 500 km from each other!!...And both the athletes are from humble backgrounds with minimal resources...
They have produced medals in a sport, which is considered one of the most technical and resource intensive athletic event.
The region of punjab has a bloody 2500+ years of history of wars with long standing history of forms of Javelin used in ancient wars. This was known as Bhala, Neza etc.Right from mentions in Hindu epic Mahabharata and also the great folklore stories of King porus whose skillful warriors equipped with the proto javelins on elephants and horses halted the March of Alexander the great inside mainland india, near beas river. Mughal and Sikh history is also full of mention of skillful Javelin warriors such as bhai bachitar singh, who killed an enemy elephant with a form of spiral Javelin.
These medals are nothing but a slight hint to the underlying physical and genetic untapped potential of this region of punjab, which is maximum going into drain with a current environment which is hostile to excelling in sports( in both nations). This, if changed and this region could become a world powerhouse in producing medals at Olympics in many more sports.

I can whole heartedly say as a Canadian who left Pakistan 35 years ago, I am embarrassed and disgusted by the Pakistani Gov. The ONE guy we had (Imran Khan) who wanted to do something for the country was tossed in jail by corrupt pigs backed by the US. My heart breaks for this man. And imagine all the other children who have a dream and cant achieve it because we have PIGS running th country. I wish I had known sooner as I would have somehow send money myself. This whole thing of an Olympic Gold Medal reminds me of a funny story. A transgender miraculously had given birth to a son. The poor child was kissed & hugged so much that he died of suffocation. Here Arshad Nadeem is being spoiled by showering prizes of crore of Rupees that will spoil rather than encourage him. He is not a sportsman anymore but has become a celebrity and a billionaire overnight. There is a limit to everything. A nation who always has starved for glory had got its first hero in 1992 when it won Cricket World Cup. Arshad Nadeem is now a new hero and may be our next Prime Minister.

Not really. This behaviour is typical of Pak elites at home and abroad. They look down on other Paks and rarely help. Always in competition with one another. Too much hassad and burning jealousy.

India is no better saw a video of a girl gymnast whose father got all 2nd hand stuff & made things up that she needed , also a female Indian wrestler likewise seems that if it's not cricket then there's no sponsors or govt sport funding ! These r talents that shud go to Australia,USA basically the west their countries govt's font deserve such talent - the sub continent countries also have no post athlete plans for these talented PPL EG to join sport colleges ( if it exists) or university sport programs all intended to use old experience to feed the youth & future but it seems again govt spending in sports in these countries is poor but if they win then suddenly for a short time they r heroes & politicians fight to get a photo opp then it's all over.

THIS IS A WIN FOR PAKISTAN, Because Pakistan is not it's government, not its politiicians or state hirearchy. Pakistan is millions of hardworking people like Arshad Nadeem, people with passion, desires and grit. People who despite no facilities and reward give their sweat and blood for the country and for their dreams. Arshad Nadeem's win is not government's win for sure and certainly not of a political party and elite leadership, but his win is every middle and lower class Pakistani's win, who are willing to do anything for the country despite hardships and no support. It is a win for those people who followed his journey since he appeared on the scene, people who didn't have the means to fund him but had prayers and love for him, because his win would solidify and validate their own passion and love for the country. It is indeed a win for Pakistan because a country is not it's government or elite , a country is its people.
