Funny thing is that while we were capturing footage for Kingdoms of Amalur, Rebecca was playing the game after months of putting it down... and she said "maybe I should start the game again - it's fun!". Now that she knows not to attack the three tall red towers early in the game that break it.
What I like most about Metal Jesus is that he is a real nerd. You can hear it in his excitement and how his breathing gets heavy when he talks about old games. Love the passion bro.

That is Bruiser the unusually large Pug in the background. He's a good boy...but likes to snore loudly when he sleeps.
I have at least one more PSP Hidden Gems video planned...but it will be a while. I wanna space them out a bit...

No way Baldur's Gate II!!! PC?!
Coming as a surprise I was never introduced to that series until the first release on PS2.
That's so cool knowing they had a PC version all that time!
Welp, you kind of missed it out then, because PS2 version was actually just a spin-off. Playing through the first one right now.
They were bigger because there was space on shelves to make them so big! Plus when you packed in printed manuals that were sometimes hundreds of pages long... cloth maps, product catalogs, knickknacks...and more you NEEDED a big box. Plus it gave the art department room to make cool art for the front and back and sometimes inside flap. It was an EVENT buying a new PC game back in the 80s & 90s.
I have an old single CPU AMD PC in the game room that runs WinXP. Works for most games...with some tweaking.
Glad to see you added a Panasonic 3DO to your console collection. I used to play all sorts of those games before I moved on to PC gaming. I will be looking forward to your video posts when you get around to playing your new acquisition. Also, I loved that last segment on this video at 11:15 where you show off those classic PC games. Treasure those cause, just as you did in the past, I also threw away all those big game boxes in the name of convenience and space saving.
I LOVED LucasArts games back in the mid 90s to early 2000s. They made some incredible games Sam & Max Hit the Road, Full Throttle & Grim Fandango. Ballblazer & The Eidolon where pretty amazing for their time as well...and of coarse all the great Star Wars games. Honestly, they should have just had LucasArts focus on making a next gen version of Battlefront III for the upcoming PS4 and Xbox 720 and it would have sold MILLIONS!
You can get a used PSP at Gamestop for only $69...and often even cheaper on Craigslist. I say Go For it!

You know I have to say, my hats off to the person who gave those pc games to you. I just love people who keep classic stuff in that perfect of condition. He is awesome!

However, Serpent Isle is not an expansion pack for Black Gate, but an entirely separate game (using the same game engine, which is why it's called "Part 2"). The expansion for Black Gate was Forge of Virtue, and the expansion for Serpent Isle was The Silver Seed

Bioshock Infinite is one of the greatest games ever made. It really makes you want to go back and play through it again after finishing to understand everything it has to offer including the little details. Love it. It indeed made me a Bioshock fan.

Hey MJR, I had Sanitarium for the PC back in the day, LOVED IT, got rid of the box and such and ended out losing the game, totally gutting when you think about the stuff you did with your games back when you were a kid lol

Yo MJR, I just started building my PSP collection. My first game was secret agent Clank, got it for free from a friend. Now I also got innocent life, tales of eternia, and the best of all: The legend of heroes - Trails in the sky, collectors edition, love it. Keep on the good work!
You sir, are costing me a fortune reminding me of all my old consoles etc. Your video on Wii and GameCube gems made more dig mine out and buy some of the ones I was missing. Thanks for the vids and keep it up :)
Nice pick ups MJR :D Really cool to see the PSP stuff, I've actually custom firmwared my system recently as it's amazingly easy to do now.
Don't worry though, no pirating going on here; I've instead been using it to rip all my UMDs to memory stick! Improves the load times to no end on some games, it's crazy...
Nice finds you got there! I just picked up "Jeopardy! 1st, 2nd, & Sports Editions : Collections Pak" at Goodwill. It was complete with the box and 3.5" and 5.25"!
Damn those huge boxes remind me of our copy of Age Of Empires Gold Edition from back in the day, the box was so huge because the instruction manual was the size of a textbook, with historical information on all the playable civilizations in the game. Really cool.
Oh really?! I enjoyed the original Boktai game when it was released. Sitting outside in the sun... playing the GBA SP!
Great set of pickups as always matey - nice to see you mixing it up with some 360 stuff as well... Im about 30-35% into the new Tomb Raider at the minute and apart from the annoying quicktime events im loving it :)

Nothing beats the feeling of finding those games you REALLY want out in the wild. ;) 1:10 Ouch, 60 hours and then hit a game breaking bug? That sucks. 4:19 I remember hearing good things about the first Lost in Blue game. 6:40 Never played Parappa, but watched Dario8676 do an LP of it. Looks fun. ;) 8:00 Dissidia is a fun game. Fighting game with RPG elements. 9:35 Got the God of War edition PSP, which came with that game. ;) 14:25 I loved Civilization 2. :) Great pickups. :)
I did exactly the same with my N64 collection, binned all the boxes when i moved house, regret it now. Did almost the same with my SNES collection too, my parents brought the boxes up as they were having a clear out and i decided to keep them in my shed where they got a bit mouldy. The mould smell has drastically reduced over the years but don't think it'll ever go fully...
Battlefront II is a port of the PS2 game. Star Wars; Rouge Squadron and Elite Squadron are exclusive PSP games. One story focuses on the rebels, the other the empire. Rogue was pretty good, but have not played Elite as yet.

Man, this totally reminds me my attic. I have several boxes of original PC games in boxes, including all the Command and Conquer series, Wing Commanders, and bunch of Bioware and Fallout games. I actually have a massive poster for Baldurs Gate 1 that's signed by all of the development team. Problem is that it's so big I can't frame it and put it on the wall. Like it's 8 feet high. Now THAT'S a game poster!
You and Classic Game Room should team up and make a UA-cam channel together. I would so dig that.
Just found a copy of Space quest iv in a pawn shop complete in original shrink wrap. Pretty stoked about that. He had a copy of Civ II in big box along with its fantastic worlds
expansion as well.
I'm guessing that they wanted to give you more value for your buck with all of those maps and different extras. What surprised me is that he said that even some normal retail editions came with all of that, that's really cool.

I think in ever game collector there is a feeling of regret for past mistakes. I know I've gotten rid of things I'd rather not have, including boxes, games, and systems. You've learned from those mistakes though, and it's made you the collector you are today.
Oh man, the Tie-Fighter/X-Wing games were my absolute favorite when I was little. I even bought a joystick just for that purpose. It would be really cool to bump into you sometime. (I'm from WA as well)

PSP is such a great handheld, I still got mine from 2006 + about 60 boxed games.
I also regretted getting rid of many of my older game systems all those years ago - so much so, that over the past year I've actually been tracking down & repurchasing most of my fave systems and games :-)
Oh and btw, although I've never been into PC gaming, I have got to agree, those big box sets were/are freaking awesome :-)

Mental Man! I share your love for big boxes, I don't think Steam or any PC game cases even nearly live up to the standards of the PC game boxes of the 90's. Wish they came with cloth maps and fat manuals nowadays! :)

$3 bucks for Duke Nukem isn't that big of a deal. I've spent way more on a crappy meal... If I get a couple hours of entertainment out of it, it will be money well spent.

Awesome pick ups. I recently got an old computer up and running so now I'm on the hunt for 90's FMV pc games. Yea they sure cost a lot on ebay to pick them up complete in box. Specially the popular Seirra games
OMG that Baldur's Gate Box, reminds me how I owned that one, disassembled it and archived the discs in my CD-Organizer. Damn I was 10 when I got it and I knew it was a bad idea to throw it away. Ah memories.

Holy crap, sick score on Wizardry 8, that one's probably worth at least as much as Ultima 7 if not more. I'd love to find that, and I'm also trying to track down the PS2 Wizardry game. There was also a recent PS3 Wizardry game for the PSN. Definitely give Wizardry 8 a try soon, it's probably right up your alley.
You got a better deal on that Baldur's Gate II than I did on mine. I think I paid $10 for my boxed copy at a thrift store.
The old school boxed PC games make me wistful, knowing that we're not going to see them again like that in the new market.
Awesome find with those box PC games. And yes, the 80s and 90s for computer gaming has amazing packaging. Unfortunately, like you, I threw most of the boxes. I had an awesome C64 collection, Microprose, Cinemaware, Origin....they had great boxes and pack in stuff. And I also threw out those great triangle Thief 1 and 2 boxes like a dope.

I also love big box pc games. My favourite piece in my collection is a complete Everquest and Everquest 2 box collection (that is almost 20 boxes in total).
Glad I subscribed to your show. Glad to see you got a Panasonic 3DO. You need to pick up Dungeons and Dragons Slayer (not exacly rare but only released on 3DO) and Dungeons and Dragons Deathkeep (released only on 3DO and DOS). They are first person dungeon crawlers. They are fun games. You should pick them up if you find them on the cheap.
Watching the PC segment. So far I have all of those games but had to throw out the boxes due to the termite attack at a duplex I lived at. I still have a good # of older PC games still in the box and complete. If you like, I can inventory the ones I have and send you a list? I haven't played any of them in years and I think you as a collector would find them a lot more useful.
Too bad about Kingdom of Amalur... I can assure you that the game breaking glitch doesn't always happen. I know a friend who is obsessed with it and he has beaten it at least 5 times and never once mentioned it.

Ha! It does actually play a little better than Way of the Warrior. The jumping mechanics are similiar though where you float around the screen.
Is that the Box version of Neverwinter Nights or the DVD case version with a bit of packing around it? I have the Box version with the map and the big instruction manual and it seems bigger.

Seeing as Ultima VII appears to be Floppy disc based, if you actually want to play the game you can easily get the complete edition on GOG for like $6.
As a collector myself i know there are some issues about the cover and the box and all that stuff but i cant understand why the hate on the greatest hits boxes
Oh, I remember watching a friend of mine getting all the games he wanted from his father. He stored the disks in a disk box and threw out the box and instructions and all. . . Just remembered. .. I once gave him my Monty Python's Flying Circus badge, making my boxed copy not so complete anymore. . . :(

Oh wow the PSP pickups were cool, but getting those boxed PC games at the end. I have all of the X-Wing series complete.
Plus I have all of the original Ultima games for the Apple II, not all complete but I have most of the items. Sadly don't have an Apple II though.
Oh man totally jealous over the Mechwarrior games, I don't know what happened to my copy.

On the 3DO, you gotta have Out of This World and Star Control II. Both were re-made with 16bit graphics and just look and feel superior to the other versions.
Secret Agent Clank is pretty good, Duke Nukem Forever really isn't worth too much time. It has some dumb humor that you may like, maybe a good game to play with Paul while drinking beer but that is about it. I love the Tomb Raider series as well my friend. Keep up the awesome videos MJR, you are awesome.

Tie Fighter has got to be one of my top five PC games of all time. It's so sad seeing this two days after Lucasarts being shut down.
12:00 Tell me about it. its especially difficult for me since im looking for brand new copies. so far though, i have achieved some pretty rare purchases like nascar racing, Jane's longbow 2 and some other games.
I love all those old pc games! I tried to eBay all of mine as I'm more into retro console. So glad they didn't sell!! Have a mint system shock 2 as well as many other classics!
Sigma Star Saga is AMAZING!!! Great game, played through it a few times, really fun! Although the background tune that plays when you walking around kept reminding me of when Anna Nicole Smith said, "Do you, do you like my body?" If you hear that, thank God its not just my imagination!
