Trust the (neutral) Swiss to match two most unlikely steam engines. 41 018, built in 1939 just before World War II and which certainly had her share in the campaigns agaist Poland and France, matched with 141 R 1244, the American steam engine built at Montreal, delivered to France after WW II in order to overcome the engine shortage in this country. Still, a most interesting pair, especially when you compare their whistles. 141 R 1244 has the standard "American" whistle, which you can also hear on 241 A 65. 41 018 originally had a much more deep-toned whistle, which you can still hear on the rebuilt engines of the former East German Reichsbahn, such as 03 1010, 18 201 or the narrow-gauge engines of the Harzer Schmalspurbahn (Harz Narrow Gauge Railway). Only with the reconstruction and fitting with a new boiler in 1961 did 41 018 receive this "ridicoulously" high-toned whistle.

Oh, and by the way, "speeding" (used several times in the two videos): with 141 R 1244 limited to 100 km/h, and 41 018 even to 90 km/h, that was some "unhurried" kind of speeding
