This is the best hedge trimmer video that I've seen and its very refreshing to see that it was managed without any power tools! It's a pity that it only appeared on my 'recommended view' list the day after I had sharpened mine. The only difference that I did was to mount the blades horizontally in a wide wooden Moxon vice and to smooth off the corners at the bottom / inside of the cutting teeth with a round file. Excellent. Thank you.
Hi, love your videos!. I've been a groundsman since leaving school (I'm now 41). When i sharpen my hedge trimmers i also do it by hand with a file, but i use a large chainsaw file to sharpen the inner curved part of the blade. I also like to sand the whole blade gently back to metal, removing all the sap and crud because i find the grease stays on longer and you may gain a micrometre or two in getting the blades closer together. Nice to see you have so much love for the jobs you do. All the best from Wales UK.
Mud \_ Venator thanks mud, never thought to use a chainsaw file, will be trying it 👍, thanks for the advice, always good to hear how others do it, it's very satisfying to bring the blades back to life, and a pleasure to use. 👍👍👍
Lol I just opened up my gearbox and there's a few ball bearings loose ... got sloppy and not been greaseing it . Have greased it up qnd it's running . Do u think it will last long or do they pop fast
@@jasongardener3425 the new kombi hedge cutter attachment hlkm 145 ... this prob sound stuoud but what's the main circle part in the middle called I've search everywhere and cart see anything to match it . It's not like the old ones with a circle gear and a length piece added onto the circle
this is the BEST video I've seen, a FILE to sharpen your blades,my way is with a file also, the right file is a must, not some 12" BASTARD or a GRINDER that it looks like they are celebrating 4th of july with their first ground fountain, VERY GOOD VIDEO
Cool, this is very much a strip down sharpen when the trimmer need that little more attention, but day to day I'm the same and just file to keep sharp 👍
Coming from the cycling world I am wondering about replacing the bar grease with hot paraffin wax, as wax keeps cleaner while in use in harsh environments?
Nice job, I guess some viewers don't realize they have a mute button on their computer if they don't like the music. Who needs the sound on with printed words. I have grinders and files and also prefer using files for jobs like this.
Kudos for using a file, however I would have cleaned off the sap & muck first, The contamination will clog the file, therefore making it not as effective.. I was also quite surprised you didn't take the time to go ahead and service the gearbox.
I find that some machines have to much gap between the blades and soft stuff like conifer gets between and does not cut cleanly. I remedy this by stoning of a few thou from the spacers using a micrometer to get them all the same, then fit up and test if needed take of a thou or two more this makes all the difference in the world, then keep well oiled while in use.
Sorry to be a bit dense, but if you see this after 3 years since the video, could you recommend a file please? I think you can get all sorts of different grades and types? Many thanks. 😊

Thank you Peter, i appreciate that 🙂👍👍
Great video, thank you. Now to work up the courage to take mine apart and do things the right way lol

Very good, informative and very useful! Thank you
Thanks, that's helped a lot. I like your grease gun I really must get one.

The grease will keep it going for a little bit, but if bearings are out or broken, the vibration will increase, it's only a matter of time I'm afraid,

Great upload.
Have to be honest, I do mine in situ with a diamond file. It works a treat as well. 👍👍

I do keep threatening to strip mine but haven’t as yet. Even if to give it a good clean. Much easier the way you’ve done it. Cheers mate. 👍👍
What type of grease should be used?
Great video Jason 👌🏼🍃
Thank you. Most informative 👍
I do it with grinder for years and had great results with it.. No time for this file bs.. But a great result anyway.. Cheers.
My thoughts maybe a grinder on a jigg like the chain say sharpener
grinders heat the steel impairing ability to hold edge
What brand head do you use that has that really short shaft? That’s not a Stihl brand is it?
Just done my titan, great help cheers Jason👍
Chisle501 Videos hi thanks glad it was of help, the titan is a great little machine

Very good video and narrative comments!!
Cowboy Joe 😊👍👍👍
I didn’t see where the spacers go. Took mine apart and they fell from somewhere. Still haven’t gotten the dang thing back together.
Jason: Could I manually use a high-grit/rough sandpaper instead of a file?
good and practical.Congratulations on this skill

What kind of file should I use?
A double cut bastard

Just a good fine file will do 👍

Hi, any good file will do, but get a fine one if possible 👍

Treat yourself to a magnetic tray for the nuts and bolts . So much easier !!!
Why not use a dremel with a sharpening stone attachment..
Jas K hi, I find a file more precise and less aggressive.
👍
jason Gardener Okay. Makes sense! 👍🏼
What grease do you use?
I use cv grease but any grease will do
@@jasongardener3425 Great video. Am told grinders on knives get the steel hot which lessens ability to hold edge.
Why sharpen the outside edges? They don't cut against anything....
friend only a single blade is sharpened? others sharpen the upper blade right side and left side of the lower blade, why?
Both blades and all teeth are sharpened mate, just didn't film all as would have been boring to watch 👍
That “music” is annoying. Couldn’t watch the whole thing
I don't think the music choice is the problem as we are not here to listen to tunes, but your voice is quiet and the music is a bit too loud
Fuck gonna be there all day
Dremel for me ...
Hy men dont do that so , thats no good you just go over that dirt!!!!!
