for clarification... if a ball is to be ‘out of play’, ALL of the ball must cross all of the line, INCLUDING any overhang - so the ball doesn’t even need to be touching the line. If you were to draw a line vertically upwards from the markings on the field and it intersects the ball at any point, then the ball is still in play. This is true for the ball leaving the field at any point - Throw In, Corner, Goal Kick, Goal.

for people who dont understand: he left the ball just a millimetre on the line, making it seem like its out of bounds. the linesman notices this, so when the other team picks it up because they think its out, they get a handball foul. super smart.

You missed out something. When you play by the rule, you expect your opponent to play by the rule too. It's called respect. Of course you can play outside the box, but then again nobody will respect you and the image you have in their mind is a "petty trickster". People should really stop complimenting these petty "thinking outside the box" players. I think it's very unsportsmanship.

Moreover, when the ball crosses the line, the linesman will signal it by raising his flag. If there's no signal from the ref and linesman, then you play on, because the ball is still in play. These are professional players, and it's their job to know the rules. The guy in white simply did a better job than his opponent on that play.
