Back in '88 as a teenager. First job. First wage packet. Straight to the shop and bought the Air Trainer SC as it was known then. Wore them to the bone. Last year in UK they re released them in the USA colourway. Got myself 2 pairs as they bring back such special memories. Amazing how a sneaker can carry so much sentimental value. Hopefully this classic brings some joy to the new generation too.
It is absolutely incredible when you think how many remarkable sneakers Tinker has played some type of role in either as the main designer or one of the contributors.
Victor Cruz did it and it was around that Yeezy time so he went that rout with the styling. I think this is more along the OW vibes. I been saying this for years. Lol. A Player like Ben Simmons or Devin Booker should be wearing a foamposite or flightposite. It would be great to see them allow new players to bring a new flavor or story to classics like the Air Way up, Air Up, Air Zoom Flight 95's and Air max sensation. That's the problem with pretty much all sneakers outside of Jordan, some Kobe and Lebron's. There isn't enough history or story that will make a Giannis, PG, KD or Kyrie. I can't imagine they will be an anticipated retro 10 years from now. So if you are a fan favorite you should be able to continue to show your style and reimagine classics to push them so they can move units as well as help keep the original players name out there.
I disagree, you don't need a story or history to market sneakers, Nike just resorted to linking colorways with stories because the culture was doing it- but the product stood on its own merit- that's where they're lacking. They've already milked Foamposites to death what is a Ben Simmons foam supposed to do? This would only be interesting on obscure models and even then I have doubts it would produce anything worthwhile.
@@revmatic32 your entitled to your opinion. For clarity, the history and story that I'm talking about is from actual game play. Jordans history and story comes from big wins, his firsts, his all star games, championships, etc. Same with Kobe and Lebron. KD, Kyrie, Giannis and PG shoes should be connected to moments but they don't catch on the same. KD, Kyrieand Giannisall won championships and other notable accomplishments but no one really cares the way they do about MJ or Kobe. Not really speaking on the obscure stories they have been introducing in recent times but those do come into play when extending a brands creativity and getting deeper into that athletes back story. I was also speaking from mainly a lifestyle perspective for the players to wear those classic shoes. Walking into the game is like a fashion runway for NBA it will be plenty of visibility. Those classics don't need me molds or tooling so cost wise is a win for Nike vs creating a new silhouette. The shoe will be seen but wearing them In game once in awhile would be nice too. Advertising with old and new players, social media posts with them talking about each other's games and similarities etc and giving them PE's or a revamped look like they did Saquon iss way to link the two and give a new player a chance to be a part of a deeper Nike story. It will introduce the older player to a new generation and vice versa. For exempt Ben Simmons walks in the tunnel wearing new flavors of Foamposites or Pippen and they are telling stories about how Ben's game is like the evolution of magic and themselves and he give his thoughts on them. It just adds a fresh face to the shoes. Some kids may like them because it's not going to be considered a old head shoe if they see a younger player wearing them.
@@d.felixphoto2260 I can see how it would make sense for Nike- particularly as lifestyle products -thanks for fleshing your ideas out. I still feel mostly the same about the concept though. Nike's most impactful signature models were created when a great product designed by Nike was worn during a great moment by an athlete. There are no shortcuts for impact. The reason no one cares for current signatures is because either the product or the athlete are not living up to their end of the bargain. Dipping into the archive in order to at least ensure the product is on point is a good idea every now and then, but releasing a new colorway of a model people have seen on sales racks this time inspired by Paul George's closest aunt's favorite wig will not move the needle at all. Those guys need great shoes and they need to do cool shit in them. Cheers.
Loved this video! Truly felt like a cool, spoken word version of a research paper. You clearly stated all of your points and backed them up with facts and supporting details. Props!
The Nike air trainer iii is my all time favorite shoe... I have damn near every colorway... I also have a few of the Nike air trainer 1's but the 3's drew me all day
It seems like Reebok, with the little market they have, had been doing that with some players. I think the PE to some degree have been used like that. Yes, it does make more sense now to just give players a older model instead of a new one. New generations don't remember a lot of the old Gen athletes and their sigs
WHY IS JACQUES ACTING LIKE PE’s ON “SIGNATURE SHOES” THAT ARENT FROM THAT SPECIFIC ATHLETE HAVENT BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. EDDIE JONES, VIN BAKER, KG, BLAKE TO A CERTAIN EXTENT WITH THE HYPERDUNKS LOL CMON JACQUES YOU AN OG
Funny think about those victor Cruz trainers (red October) version, is that they ended up at Marshall’s for $60. Victor told that story in an interview a few years back.
I had the air trainer 2 back in the day. These have cult status and Nike has neglected this silhouette, whether it is the 1,2 or 3. Hopefully with the Travis Scott collab releasing soon, it will get the recognition it deserves.
I always thought those black lines were used for “intimidation” purposes…never knew about the more practical use of glare prevention. Learned something new today! ❤️🔥💯
Nike did it for Neymar Jr. in the lifestyle segment with the Shox R4, Shox TL, and Air Max 2090, although he also got performance variations of the Mercurial for the field and indoor as well. No signature show, but a lot of customized versions of existing offerings. Now that he's with PUMA, they're doing the same thing to some of their existing silohuette's. Not every elite athlete needs a signature shoe. Some just want an already elite model emblazoned with their own personal branding. I'd love to see Nike ID offer individuals to option to upload graphics to put on the tongues or back of the shoes to allow us to make our own sort of signature variation.
I think a signature shoe at this point should be something you earn like a couple years in the sport and your consistently on top than yeah definitely but I’m still a fan either way
For anything above a basic player, the construction and design of the toe box will have flaws. Tinker may have benefitted from reviewing some of the Kyries, The Zions and Freaks. Wouldn't compromise design principle and would have made a much better shoe for an athlete.
I thought the Nike Air Trainer SC's were considered the "Bo Jackson's"... P.S. I had the medicine ball color way back in the day and the strap always pinched my little toes. I could never wear the Trainer 3's.
@@dragorocky ah. I don't remember the Trainer 3's being associated at all with Bo. I mean, there was the Raiders color way for the SC Trainer, but I can't think of a colorway of the Trainer 3 that was a callback to Bo.
Theypushed back the release date twice to build up hype, l thought I had a shot dont even think im going to try at this point! He said $180 they were initially listed at $140 on Sneakers app.
Litty viddy! That Bo poster tho. Ain’t na newbie fkn w/ that (or Jordan wingspan poster either). Something bout that black n white, plus the NIKE AIR logo. Oh yeah, these shoes go like a MF! That MAX 180 color scheme, plus the black-out on the swoosh/check? My dude! 👏🏼👏🏼🔥🔥🏈⚾️
Idk, didn't Nike signature trainer 3's for Megatron then give him his own shoe? This isn't something new, possibly want to bring Saquon up as a Signature athlete seeking the same success.
It’s not the future it’s the past reimagined as only Nike does and some of us still buy it. Bo Jackson had the better versions. I do like the color way though.
All I see is a lifestyle PE. Call it what they want but just because they are putting an athlete on a shoe and calling it his own is just another way to see how marketable he/ she is before really make a signature. This is the second foot ball player in bo Jackson shoes. Aren’t there others they can use?
Nike is in a volatile place right now as the top brand, with an aging Lebron approaching retirement age soon, they really don't have a go to guy for their next big name superstar basketball player, just a bunch of OK signature shoes that hit the back walls of outlets more than Steph Curry hits free throws. Jordan has been their bread and butter but as they continue to diminish Jordan Brand with over saturation what will they do to sustain their brand's streak at the top? I mean between Chinese knockoffs, the resell market, and a bad app, all on top of what I said earlier, it looks like Nike got some major issues to make some decisions on. Let's just hope those at the helm over there are creatives and not doing it for the money and status because it's starting to look like a house of cards more and more everyday to me.
Um does Jacques slade not understand the concept of PEs? Lol like he made good points for why it’s different than a PE but I don’t think the intention behind the shoe is any different it’s supposed to be a PE lol
Nike can keep these retros. Straight trash. They look good that's it. I don't understand why they can't take a retro model and add the new tech inside. Would be great to have these trainers with today's comfort

Still on the fence on these. I like how they keep delaying it on SNKRS. Gives me more time to think.

I ordered the new Ben Simmons Nikes ready for my debut on the court, but they never turned up.

Those Victor Cruz were slept on, especially the Red October version..1700$🤦🏽♂️
Facts. I was gunna cop but I was stuck on that wave like “maybe they’re NOT cool if there’s no hype”that’s what I get for being a sheep.
Some how I totally missed Vic Cruz release. Reminds me of Kanye/Yezzy with the Nike brand before Addias.

1980s-1999 Best era of Nikes
Combined Jordan 3+4, absolutely brilliant and spot on! Thx Jacques, exactly the review I needed. ✊🏽
Probably the best sneaker review I've seen you do. Sub'd ✅
I always thought those black lines were used for “intimidation” purposes…never knew about the more practical use of glare prevention. Learned something new today! ❤️🔥💯
Damn bro did you ever play sports?
Lol I honestly didn't think it had a function ethier

No cap I really love how he explains and shows the shoes 💯
The Air Trainer 3 is the most uncomfortable shoe I've ever worn. How does it fit cause I really want to try again.
Go a half size up. Full size up if you have wide feet.
Have to agree
I have a couple pair and love the way they look but hate wearing for the whole day
Don’t understand why they don’t add in a zoom in it. For the price they charge.
Gotta go up a 1/2 or whole size to get comfort and get crease protectors to keep toe box straight.
This is actually my favorite sneaker the Trainer III
Excellent breakdown! 💯
I think a signature shoe at this point should be something you earn like a couple years in the sport and your consistently on top than yeah definitely but I’m still a fan either way
I’d love to see Nike take this signature design with SB and also add it to a newer model. Same colorway.
Such a dope looking shoe I wish nike would bring out more different colour ways
They will
lol they did this to odell beckham 1st

I get that off white made it popular recently but even a few years before they did it, Nike was releasing sneakers with exposed tongues.
These bo Jackson’s are fire
Right lmao definitely no Jackson’s don’t matter what name you put in the sneaker it’s always bo knows Jackson
Great vid by brotha. I grabbed all the Cruz Trainers and will do the same for Saquan! 💪🏾💪🏾
I thought the Nike Air Trainer SC's were considered the "Bo Jackson's"...
P.S. I had the medicine ball color way back in the day and the strap always pinched my little toes. I could never wear the Trainer 3's.
Correct. They were both BO’s. Like MJ, they dropped a new model every year. 🔥🔥🔥

Is this gonna be one of those shoes that sells out immediately or is there gonna be a chance someone can actually grab a pair?

Hope to get these in hand
I actually really like these I usually only cop if there's a profit but I'm trying to get these to wear
The remind me of 4s
Are these releasing in the uk? I hope so 😭
Yup,this fire🔥
Clean AF
With the reintroduction of these, I feel like people will start looking at Jordan 312’s a little differently now.
Heck yeah, I have a couple of those. Same thing really. Love them both!
Anyone know what the fit is like? Some ppl are saying go half a size up
These or the Georgetown Dunks???
Fire 🔥 video well done 👏
Man i need these shoes
these are dope, cant wait to throw on feet.
They pushed backed the release 😫
These are nice!

Kind of looks like the AJ Legacy 312.

These shoes were not attached to any athlete when originally sold in Australia, they were just a pair of cross trainers.
These are so tuff 🤦🏾♂️🔥🔥🔥
Dude acting like he works at the nike accounting department...🤣🧨
I need these sooo bad!!!!
Hold onnn. Did you say $180! Yeah thats not going to do well. Just retro the medicine ball trainer 3s again.

Great Sneaker/Shoe🤔. Hatfield's at it again. Similar LeBron 16 Remember (Bo Jackson).
Dope but I wonder why they didn’t choose Derrick Henry to me this shoe screams Derrick Henry
As long as we don't act like this is the first time it happened I'm cool
Must cop!
A GUM BOTTOM WOULD HAVE KILLED IT!!!!
Those are nice.
$140 not $180
NEEEEEED EMMMMMM
There actually $140, at least that’s what SNKRS says 😒
It’s not the future of nike signature. Heard rumors traviss gonna mess with air trainer
I don't really follow football but when I saw the shoes, I thght they were for Charles Barkley.
Oh well, still like em
Looks like a remix of Bo Jackson shoe🤔
Speaking of signature athletes (who have a signature shoe) do you think Nike is in trouble with having Kyrie still as a marque athlete right now?
Jus got em lol
The optimus prime trainer IIIs are the best ones of all time: I wish they just put these mfs on nikeID
Same
REMEMBER...ALWAYS A HALF SIZE UP!!!!
We forget about OBJ…
How could it be the future when he just looks like bo Jackson’s shoes From the 90s to me retros recycled
The future is the past
Just like the movie industry rebooting everything
$140
