It has to be hard to sing in front of people (especially when they've paid to see you) knowing you could sound so much better if you weren't sick/had slept more/hadn't just come back from tour, etc. He's not underestimating himself, he's just being honest with himself and the audience. I feel for him- some netizens are cruel and judgemental and often forget idols are human and are allowed off days, just like the rest of us.

First off the sound system SUCKS. And took a recording engineer course Sundae Sound Studio. I have done a few recordings but I was mostly sound boards and lights in bars nightclubs and arenas! That place also listening doesn't sound like it has the best acoustics. Also mics play a role for vocalists. That man Kim Jonghyun could soar thru all notes. I grew up in a home where all kinds of bands practiced to jammed with my dad my uncle and then both my brothers my 1st cousin and their friends. I also helped my 2nd cousin who was a agent by scouting for him. So yes I am proud of knowledge. I will go to my grave being a part of the music world not the STAN crap that even Prince and other artists felt insulted their music. They weren't in it to be idols to be adored. They wanted their music to be adored.
I don't know where this is but being a recording engineer I will tell you this the acoustics suck. You can here echoing and a boomerang effect when they are singing. Where you sit the place you play in matters. Lip syncing recorded to sound live would have fixed it. The mics are not good either. You shouldn't be able to hear that boomerang effect at all.
