- Is Cities Skylines II crashing at random moments without any error message? Then this video might be the quick fix you are searching for!
Cities Skylines 2 crashing behavior:
These Cities Skylines 2 video addresses the random crashes which appear and random moments in the game. This kind of Cities Skylines 2 crash freezes the game for 2-5 seconds before closing the game back to desktop without any error message.
This video might also be a fix for related issues where a Cities Skylines crash, not just ends the game but gives you a black screen and forces you to restart your computer.
These Cities Skylines 2 crash might also be related to the crash in which Cities Skylines freezes and causes a window Blue screen.
While my Cities Skylines 2 has crashed on average every 7 minutes after the change demonstrated in this video, I am able to play the game on the highest settings with 60 fps without any crashes for more than 4 hours of gameplay.
The problem for these Cities Skylines II crashes appears to be the GPU rendering too many frames, causing the simulation to not being able to keep up and crashing the cities skylines 2 applications or even the entire computer.
This issue can be: Temporary prevented by limiting the maximum frame rate the game is allowed to render. On my Nvidia RTX4090, I have found 60fps to be the sweet spot between stable performance and no noticeable frame rate dips.
You might want to choose different settings depending on your graphics card. My recommendation is to start with a limitation of 20 frames per second, then start to increase this limit until you arrive at a playable and stable Cities Skylines 2.

You are a godsend! Thank you so much! I'm finally able to play the game! Thank goodness the weekend isn't over yet!
You are most welcome! 👍
@GreenBoxMedia, the crashes started up again yesterday and again today. The following error was in my log file, literally 55,786 times (I counted them in Excel):
"Virtual texturing warning: W1003: Transcoded a tile but no space was left in GPU cache of type BC7 UNORM to accommodate it. This probably means that the GPU is too small for the requested data."
Maybe this filled up the log and caused it to crash. This is a different error than I was getting before your fix.
Here are my GPU details (not the recommended, but more than the minimum)
Graphics device: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti (Version: Direct3D 11.0 [level 11.1])
Graphics memory: 7.854 GB
@@DM-fe2bc Nvidia releases a new driver yesterday did you happen to upgrade?
@@GreenBoxMedia That did it. Thanks again! I'm such a noob... in the world of automatic updates, I always forget that graphics cards are the exception and that you have to monitor and install the drivers manually 🙄.
that actually helped. thought my city was lost. danke!
Sadly this doesn't work for me even though I already set it on 20 fps (the game was fine without any tweaking until recently) :(
It worked! Thank you kind sir
Thabks heaps for this. I'm running a 3090ti and before doing this my frames were going beyond 60 even though I had vsync on. After this it hard locks it to 60 and I'm able to run stable. ❤❤❤
This has worked with the AMD Radion xt 7900 xtx graphics card too!!!! Cheers for sharing this fix.
This certainly helped the graphics since I was rocking as minimal as I could stand on my RTX 3080. Thanks!
You are welcome 👋
Thank you very, very much! This helped me out of a crisis and a new PC purchase for 3000 usd. Now the machine works like a dream
i can feel the German speaking but still ty mate saved my day
Gonna try this, thanks.
I'm on a brand new pc with only CS2 and Cyberpunk on it. I'm running a rtx4090 and cyberpunk is flawless at highest settings. CS2 I would have crashes every minute or two. I tried this in the video and I was excited that I was playing the game for about an hour and no crashes. Then I got a crash. I dropped the frame rate to 60mhz and after that crash I dropped it to 55. Ran the game for over 2 hrs. Let's hope that's the trick until they fix it.
Sad that this doesn't work for me. My game crashed whenever I opened the water overlay or when I was about to build something that has something to do with water
no dice
Game started crashing on new map while building precise roads and infrastructure. All the work after one hour was gone and I wasn't really motivated to play again.. I'm sick of paying Fullprize for Betatesting. Hope this works.. if not, I'm done with this game and buying new games..
Does it worked? Same thing happened with mine
@@confidential8same as mine any solution? Im running 5700x and 7900xt
@@yip2454 No, i just uninstall the game. You can try waiting for an update
Hi I use a high end pc with RTX4090, however the game crash in to a black screen and I can't do anything just reset the pc. Is it the game causing it? Thanks
Have you tried the shown method to limit frames? I use a 4090 too.
Sorry didn't see your reply till tonight. What happen is when I'm playing the game, suddenly it goes to a blank screen and can't do anything unless I restart the pc. The fos counter from steam shows I'm running the game at 60fps. Should I just change those setting as your video shows ? Thanks
Hey I have an i7 cpu and my gpu is a 3080, is this good enough to run the game even if I do these fixes?
I have friends that run the game on older hardware with no problem. However not on particularly high settings of course.
@GreenBoxMedia thanks, I'll try it out tonight, my game crashed last night after 2 hours of work and didn't save and I quite lol forgot to check auto save also.
@@boznia456there is a autosave option it is off by default
@@boznia456there is a autosave option in settings, it is off by default
works(even though I have a GTX)
This help a little bit, but I still get crash (black screen and pc restart by it self). I am using 4090+12700k, fps set to 60hz at max at 1440p
Have you tried setting it to 20fps, just to make sure? I have experienced some crashes after many hours on 60fps as well now. But far less often than before. I have found 45fps to be the sweet spot for me.
@@GreenBoxMedia 20fps stop crash. Now I set to 30fps, if this still cause crash, I think I will wait for update until no crash anymore. Game run below 30fps is just unplayable.
Thanks God, you save me❤
if the game is in xbox game pass you can't choose exe of this game in nvdia control panel cuz you dont have access to open this file(
Did you figure out a fix for the game pass version? I don't understand how no one is saying anything about this.
yes you have to choose a different file in the nvidia control panel: ''paradoxinteractive.citiesskylinesii-pcedition...". It was already in my list
Still happening today….:(
worked thanks legend!!!
I try to set like you and crashes again in 4090, My FPS show 60 TT
Try 30 fps and see if it makes a diffrence.
I have RTX 4070TI and game crashes into desktop. What FPS should I set at same drop list?
Start with 20.
doing this caused my game to crash at the loading screen every single time. rtx 4090 13900ks
THANK YOU!
You're welcome!
This doesn’t work with the Gamepass version. I'm so frustrated and I think this game is destroying my RTX 3080.
You can always ask for a refund with buggy games like this one.
you have to choose a different file in the nvidia control panel: ''paradoxinteractive.citiesskylinesii-pcedition..."
I have the same problem. but I have an AMD Radeon RX6700. What can I do?
See if you can do the same in the AMD Driver
seems to help for my setup - 4070 duo, 30fps
Glad to hear that!
@@GreenBoxMedia well - turned out crashing was better but not gone. i did reset my bios to optimal defaults, with only a few tweaks. that did the trick now i think. played for 3 hours without crashing! 😁👍
Didn't help looks like shit and crashes after 5 minutes I'm stumped worked fine a couple days ago
Yep, the latest bug fixes broke this fix and the garbage is now even more on fire.
not work
It's 2023. Why are developers targeting such a low frame rate as 30 FPS for anything other than minesweeper?
Because they assume that everyone will be using AI upscalers like DLSS.
didn't work for me I have 3080Ti
since the latest patch i am starting to have crashes again too. How hard can it be fixing a game not braking it....
its still happening even with all the patches updates installed@@GreenBoxMedia
In my case it started crashing when I got 60k population. I got RTX3060, your tutorial did not help me..
Also using the 3060. Did you go to 20 fps? I don’t want to waste another afternoon just for it to crash random again. Lame developers!
@@SethCocquit yeah i checked the fps after applying it in NVIDIA control panel, but did not help at all. It’s just a bug that cannot be solved I think, need to wait for an update
@@nijatmursali4212 well damn
oh.. 5 months later, and still having the issue.
I did this. Still get rando.e crashes...
What settings have you set it to, what GPU do you run and what is the error message in the player.log?
I have a 4070 TI, Turned off everything they recommend turning off right now. Also, all settings on low or medium, even went down to 1080p still crashes, limited to 30 fps... this is crazy...
