- Portsmouth International Kite Festival 2022 held on Southsea Common.
Wow what a fabulous weekend.
It was fantastic to meet up with old friends and to make many more new ones.
They say that 'a change is better than a rest' and this weekend proved that to be true for me.
It was a last minute decision to attend which meant an early 4:30am alarm call on the Saturday and a car containing only 'stick' kites - all soft kites left at home. Initially it felt a little strange but I absolutely loved it. It just felt a chilled environment and we were able to experience the sight of all the art kites that we frequently miss when in the soft kite arenas.
After last year's strong winds and heavy rain' the weather was a lot kinder for us though the wind was still a little challenging at times.
Everyone put on a fantastic show and the public certainly seemed to be enjoying it.

beautiful kites ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, there were many beautiful kites in the sky.
I must get to this festival one year. I see so many folks I know up in those skies 💥
It’s a great festival, fantastic creations in the sky and amazing people on the ground
Wonderful video and great music
Thank you, I’m so glad that you enjoyed watching it.
Maybe we’ll get to see your wonderful kites in the UK one day.
@@sarahbindon was there many years ago but in more recent times invited twice again and unfortunately unable to attend for one reason or another . I love Portsmouth , great place to fly and of course all of you wonderful friends.
Like all the variety of kites. There's so many!! 😃
Thank you, it is a great festival with so many different kites. So many I have not managed to capture them all!
These kites are phenomenal. I'm highly impressed by the craftsmanship and artistry. I'm feeling a bit sad because our local Berkeley Kite Festival has just been permanently cancelled. Treasure your wonderful festival.
I’m so sorry to hear about Berkeley Kite Festival. We have lost a number of festivals over the years, it makes you appreciate the ones we have left even more. I hope that something can be sorted for your festival in the future.
There were some beautiful kites at Portsmouth, I only managed to capture some of them.
Kudos'
Thank you
A seminal kiting event well presented!
Thank you Glenn, I’m glad you enjoyed it.
How did I miss this? Beautifully filmed and edited. Thanks for showing a mix of kites and not just the large show kites. Well done.
Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed watching it. It can be difficult sometimes to get around to all the arenas whilst I’m flying the show kites but I have a love of all kites so try to capture them as well.
Who’s were the magnificent Edo kites at 1.25 minutes ?
A selection from The European Air Gallery and Den Hag Air Gallery, reunited at the festival 30 years after the kites were commissioned
Thank you David x
Hi, planning to go tomorrow, how is the parking?
Sorry, I’ve only just noticed your comment, I didn’t have great signal at the event. I hope you got parked ok and enjoyed the event.
Hi ! What the next event and were? Thanks
Not sure where you are based but if in the UK you could google ‘kite calendar’ where there’s a list of events of ‘Fortuna Found’ has events listed from across the globe. Hope this helps
