  • Mary Barra is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Motors, a position she has held since January 15, 2014. Under her leadership, GM is driving to become the global industry leader in automotive design and technology, product quality and safety, customer care and business results. Barra began her career with GM in 1980 as a General Motors Institute (Kettering University) co-op student at the Pontiac Motor Division. After graduating in 1990 with a Masters in Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, she held several executive level positions within GM before becoming CEO in 2014.

    Q4 of 2021 GM sold 26 EVs in total for the quarter. Telsa sold 308,000

    "Unlike some EV customers, Bolt EV customers never have to worry about driving to another state to buy, service, or support their vehicle". Ahh, they must be talking about the same EVs which made the rest of the industry finally start to give a shit about EVs?

      +Charles Gregory Haha, nice subtle jab at Tesla. But they are accomplishing Elon Musk's ultimate goal, which was to have automakers introduce EV's in their lineup.
      Before, automakers were claiming "nobody wants EV's". At least until the Tesla Roadster, and later the Model S showed up and starting eating into their premium market share.
      Turns out that yes, people will buy EV's, if you make them sexy and fast. Will be interesting to see the Bolt's rivals, such as the next gen Nissan Leaf, and the Tesla Model 3.

      There were at least 4 subtle to not so subtle jabs at Tesla which made me hate this presentation. I have 2 M3 reservations I can't wait to pass a bolt in them.

    Hmmm... I really don't like that the name is apparently _'BOLT EV'_. It sort of confirms my fears that this was designed merely as a means for Chevrolet to one-up the Honda FIT EV. It also makes it clear there may still be a plain old hybrid version called the _'BOLT'_ at some point. Pretty durned piteous.

      One-up Honda Fit haha GM probably didn't even think of the fit probably tesla or maybe the Prius but the bolt is completely different then the fit 😂

      Ryker-b22 -- No. GM isn't thinking of the Prius at all. If they were, then the Chevrolet VOLT would have been offered in wide distribution a lot sooner, and would be manufactured in quantities to compete with the Prius directly. Toyota has sold over 100,000 of the Prius in the US for 11 years straight. Through the end of 2015, after about six years of Production, the VOLT still hadn't crossed 90,000 units.

      Ryker-b22 -- GM refers to the VOLT as being part of their EV initiative _(just as Ford calls the Fusion Energi an 'electrified' car)_. People who own the VOLT feverishly refer to it as an EV, which they claim to operate fully electric more than 90% of the time. I countered your point with the FACT that GM hasn't even gone after its most direct competition with the Volt. They've never moved even 30,000 of them in a year. And they gimped the latest version of the car by giving it an even smaller fuel tank. That was to protect sales of their CRUZE and MALIBU.
      And by the way...? I said FIT EV... A car that Honda has stopped offering after the 2014 model year. Do not be surprised that if the BOLT EV is popular, it will be joined by a hybrid BOLT soon after. GM will never make an effort to expand sales of the BOLT EV beyond 100,000 units per year. They reserve that level of Production for ICE vehicles ONLY.

    Three reasons not to buy a vehicle from GM. One: vehicles with a lot of faults. Two: Very poor customer service. Three: garages do not know how to handle mishaps, and cause a lot of damage. Beware.
