    As a Record Label Owner who’s also an artist, my goal is to not take my artist’s royalties.

    I do production myself, but I would spend money on getting some help from hit songwriters via that soundbetter site and split the publishing with them. I’d also spend some on social asset creation like social media banners so everything’s well branded and consistent. Then I’d pay for mastering, mixing, audio visualiser, official video, ads, an add consultant, and AirPlay + PR, influencer marketing.
    I have strategy’s for this already on Trello as well as contacts, just waiting on building up some investment and when my songs are put in order I’m ready to go.

    There has to be more to this. Doesn’t the label have connections for help with social media, tour planning, support, how about just stuff like being able to register music in all the different places, copyright, making sure the distribution is right, helping with the website set up, email list stuff.
    How about being able to actually introduce to the right other musicians, videographer, all the million people you need.
    Does the label not help with any of that.? I could be wrong but I have a hard time believing this just here’s $5k, which you could earn yourself anyway, and not giving any help with anything whatsoever. Come on what is the real story ?

      @@lycheejuicecollective It's not really. CD BABY, and Tonecore charge a fee to get your music heard anyway possible. But it's the artists job today to gain a following. Labels on average won't pay attention to you unless you already have a big fan base.

    • @youngc6721

      Honestly a label advance would likely be a bit more money and the label offers (in my opinion) money and connections. They can find crazy promotional plans and get your music to people and places that you would likely have to know a guy or two to get it into yourself

  • @Idontknowhoiamanymore
    @Idontknowhoiamanymore 2 роки тому

    With a $5k advance
    (1) hire a photographer/ videographer to record me in the studio
    (2) get a single finished mixed and mastered.
    (3)commission an artist to create album art
    work.
    (4) pro photo shoot in different locations and outfits
    (5) pay for Facebook ads, influencer marketing, and opportunity submission.
    If I see I’m gaining fans then I will get some merch created and book a show.
    Did I miss anything in this strategy? Thanks

    Hey Alex,you're the man!Constant valuable tips!Question: if an person plays the role of a financial investor and proposes to advance all the cash needed for an emerging artist who is indie intended and starting from scratch + plays the role of the manager and bring his skills in the game, how would a deal be a win-win for the artist and this investor/manager based on the fact that as a manager he gets 25% commission for developing this artist from scratch but on top of that this manager/investor is putting/risking his own money for the music videos, press photo shoot, social Media ads, studio recording session time, organising a local tour, etc, etc(let's say around 10-20.000e of his own? money)?How would an agreement be made that is a win-win/fair?

    • @Burstimo
      @Burstimo  5 років тому

      The person investing will probably want a high percentage of any income generated but the people that do invest are risk takers. They usually have a background in this and know what to look out for. They know a good investment

    So labels only sign you and get you a fanbase if you already have a fanbase...
    If I already had a fanbase, why tf would I need a label, which is gonna keep 30% of my revenue??...

    • @raularaujostrw
      @raularaujostrw 3 роки тому

      I’ve also had a difficult time wrapping my head around that. The only possible explanation would be that most independent artists have no actual idea about how to make actual money and manage their career as a business... And therefore they are desperate to get their hands on the initial money.
      It’s the only thing I can think of. Apart from their interest in getting into “the industry”, though, but that wouldn’t be that interesting to me in and of itself, if the connections and production support was not there.

    What he is forgetting to mention, major record labels have money for free recording, paid tours, a way to feed your family. A cut from royalties? Easy, because like he said, you would spend that money to even record outside of them. So all these scary stories, it’s a performance game in entertainment. If you get signed by major labels, that 20% is far more than you could have made by yourself. So no, major labels have a big grip on music even still today. The biggest bands you know signed deals. For obvious reasons. No band just got there without financial backing. Just dumb.

      Yep, and if you are truly exceptional at your craft especially a singer you will generate a huge fan base just being on You tube. Here'e one who has built up almost 4 million subs on her own partly because she's a young exceptional singer and partly because her day knows how to use You tube to take advantage of her talent with the videos they make. ua-cam.com/users/AllieSherlockMusicvideos That's an incredible amount of subscribers on their own.

    So I just got an email from a small label saying they'd like to sign me. They want to release at least 2 tracks. I'm not asking you to read the contract or anything, but could by any chance tell me if there's anything I should be wary of? I've been sent something called an "Exclusive Licence Agreement", and I'm worried about giving away my music and never being able to upload it myself if I change parts. I'm also afraid that someone else might want to release it and do a better job, but that they won't be able to. Would love to know any tips or insights you might have.

      You need an entertainment attorney to look over what they sent you. Never sign a contract without consulting with an entertainment attorney first!

    5 grand isnt nothing. Cant survive off that. min record label should start you off with is 250K-300k so you can hire the right team to go full-time with your music career. Just pray you can go Platinum so you can get that million+ dollar contract deals. 5k isn't worth signing for record label. Just work for the rest of your life and make and sell your own music.

    Recently got a message on Soundcloud trying to get me signed for Mojoheadz. I've never heard of them before, and I've recently been bombarded by people spamming links in my comments about "free promotions" or "pay for views." I never go there because nothing in life is free, and I'd like to think I'm not that much of an idiot. So, needless to say, I'm pretty cautious of random comments that tell me to check their website out or send demos in. Buy my main issue right now is trying to find out if the person who messaged me is actually an A&R for the music label. Anyway I'll put the links here. Perhaps someone can help me figure out if this is legit or not.
    My Soundcloud song and the commenter, aptly named "A&R": soundcloud.com/alex-hamilton-12/code-sleep-rinse-repeat
    The commenter's link: soundcloud.com/lesenjessu
    Where A&R tells me to put my demo tracks: www.demo-drop.xyz/
    The label website's contact/demo issuing link: forms.amocrm.ru/dtwwcv
    As you can see the latter two are very different from each other. Do you think I should be cautious? I'm very protective of my precious tracks lol.
