Spoiler
Since the announcers didn’t explain it well, in that last sequence Cincinnati called a timeout when they had none left. This meant Xavier got two technical foul free throws. So instead of having a chance to win down 78-77, Cincinnati could only tie it with a three as they were down 80-77. But the timeout also ended up allowing then to set a play up and inbound the ball instead of having to heave up a full court shot so I think their coach might have done it on purpose.
I posted my comment too early lol
Post Bama-Houston
Typical basketball ending in Ohio 🤪🏀🌽
Explanation daddi
@R Voit yea that’s how I thought it worked too but Cincinnati got the ball back so I guess not. Maybe only the NBA does that.
That excessive timeout is actually pretty smart so the could have a chance to win
the same chance he had if he didn't?
@@__hjg__2123 no what I saying is you would be able to set a play up instead of being all over the place but I didn’t go to plan bc the guy blocked it
@@__hjg__2123 Would have been a full court throw from 80 feet if he didn't call the TO. Actually inbounding the ball is way better
@@kalen1702 thank you
Look, ic should had a play for this! No t.o.'s, down 2 or3, here's play, we don't run this unless it's this situation, keep it up our sleeves! Down 2, gotta go full court. So u call t.o when u don't have any set up a play. Don't make no sense. Your getting your team beat at free throw line. If he makes them games over. KEEP YOUR LAST TIME OUT!!!!!!! IN A CLISE GAME!!!!!!!!
As a Cincy fan, this game was the biggest emotional rollercoaster I’ve ever been on. This games means a lot to the city. It’s one thing if it’s against a conference team, but a game against Xavier means so much. Credit to Xavier for having a good team this year. The cardiac cats will catch them eventually
These teams have HISTORY
Xavier-Cincinnati games are always a trip
Best game I've ever been to in person
Most underrated rivalry there is
Most normal Ohio basketball game
It was in Ohio 🧐
Your not funny
Go go go Xavier for the win....Zags fan here.
How in the world do the refs miss that travel at 1:43?
@Why??? it was at least 5 steps lol watch it in half speed
Establishes left foot as pivot foot. Right foot clearly moves forward but the left foot scoots forward probably four inches. By the book, traveling, but not all that obvious in real time and a hectic game situation (ref is much more concerned with watching the defense).
All planned from the start by X. Allowed them to come back from so far down. Then rip their hearts out, when they thought they had a chance. All planned…
The idiotic defender trying to foul the inbounds passer when he's got the ball out of bounds. 1:16
I would like to nominate this victory to my reformed orthodox preacher Bill Clinton
Was Chris Webber calling that game?
WOOOO GO MUSKETEERS
Calling Chris Webber
Well at least there wasn't a massive brawl this time.
I was hoping for one given that it’s Xavier and Cincy but alas disappointed.
I hate the POI rule
and this is why you put a man on the inbound
Good ending to this game. By the way, how's Xavier's football team been doing? ... Oh wait...
Lol sick burn never heard that one
4 straight
8 of the last 10
X owns cincy
Should be getting started shortly thanks for asking
I thought the Cincinnati fans were doing the Hitler salute at first, I had to do the quickest rewind lmao.
That coach basically asked to be fired!
Missing the second free throw intentionally was smart. Calling a timeout when you don't have one isn't bad when they can only go up by three. The rule needs to be changed to be a loss of possession along with the two free throws.
first
You’re so cool dude!!!
@@jeanjacketfuzz I can see the sarcasm lmao
Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈
Trophy awarded🥇
Can’t have a first half like the one we had. Miller intentionally calling that TO to concede the tech makes a lotta sense. Just needed a better inbound play, and we may have had OT. Good game, Xavier; this rivalry needed a close finish like this one. In the end, the city of Cincinnati won.
Can you do a video on the insane ending of the Nebraska vs. Purdue basketball game?
man, DeJulius got a 4 point play to tie it and the coach asks for a timeout with none left... if this wasn't college, fists would probably be flying at the dressing room
Coach did it on purpose, kind of a genius move actually
@@nikezguardian5028 no he didn’t? They already had the lead? He called the time out to put a little more time on the clock and to get the ball from an inbounds play with a stopped clock
@@nikezguardian5028 the clock was about to expire with his team down 1. even with the 2 free throws, it at least allowed his team to inbound with a chance to tie.
Maybe they will still fly........🤜🤛
@@nikezguardian5028 the point is that the other team had scored, so they were already down by 1. For someone saying "Watch the whole video" you sure don't seem to have done so yourself
Calling the timeout was smart because his team would have probably had to shoot for a really full-court 3 if he hadn't done so, and so he instead gave them control over the situation. Did that mean that they would tie instead of winning? Yes. Does that also increase the chances of them scoring, so they can leave the winning to OT? Also yes.
Chris Weber revisited
That little salute they did after he made the free throw looked a little sus…. 🥴
i watched this game live dude my anxiety level went through the rooof
Clutch Cincy +3.5 cover
NCAA BETTTER THAN NBA
0:40. Big guy enters the paint at 2:28 on the clock. Shoots the ball from the paint at 2:22. I'm old enough to remember the old rule about only being allowed in the key for 3 seconds. Those were the days.
I remember when you weren't allowed to jump into a defender to draw a foul...
@@quigonkenny right? fucking hate that rule, its just asking players to injure themselves
@@quigonkenny Time stamp?
Technically, the rule as written is MORE than three seconds. But the "spirit" of the rule, I think, is to not be in the paint without the ball without intention to leave the paint OR in the paint with the ball for more than three seconds. Lots of referees have personal philosophies towards the rule.
The three seconds reset when the player gets the ball
Karma satterfield
X almost gave the game away. Kudos to UC, DeJulius specifically for almost winning that game.
1.4 without an extraneous timeout to me seemed to be better than the tech and 0.9 left.
rip xavier -3.5 bettors... disgusting
Was a good game but that 4 pt play is bogus.
As a Cincinnati native who now lives out of state i miss the battles with Huggins & Skip or Pete Gillen on the benches.
For me the rivalry died when Mack & Mick destroyed it with their stupid crap of he said she said.
Now its at a low cause Wes Miller is trying to build Cincinnati up & we know about Sean Miller & his conversation being tapped about illegally paying the kid for Arizona.
Did he really not know there weren’t any time outs left 😅
He did. It was to set up an inbound play instead of a full court shot. Hidden genius.
@@Andre_Jordan Hidden genius doesn't apply when everyone will remember it as the call that lost them the game
@@geckogeico2212 they were losing. If he misses one of the technical free throws, the only outcome is that they can run an inbound play rather than chucking a full court shot off the intentionally missed free throw. It also prevents the Xavier player from missing on purpose again by the clock doesn’t run.
@@geckogeico2212 who gives a shit. They don't make these decisions for casuals like you, coaches make them to give their team the best chance to win. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work. A contested full court lob with less than a second sure wasn't going to do anything
@@geckogeico2212 the call that lost them the game was on the play before
What a dumb technical foul at the end. How do you not keep track of timeouts?
And it's one thing if a player does that (see: Chris Webber) but the COACH???? That can't happen
He called it on purpose to set up an inbounds play
It was intentional... He got to setup an out of bounds play, they were going to shoot a 3 either way.
Has the Cincinnati coach been fired yet? Cause if I'm the AD of any school that calls a time out they don't have in a game like that it is grounds for immediate termination (especially losing to a bitter rival)
He did it intentionally so he could draw up a play. Actually pretty smart. The odds that a player makes a full court shot are essentially zero, so I would rather have a shot at OT. Just didn't work out.
You have to have multiple brain cells to be the AD of the school, hence why you’re in the UA-cam comment section and not working for Cincinnati. The technical foul was intentional and genius because it gave the team a chance to catch and shoot rather than shoot as a reaction off a rebound
