There is currently well over 100 active listing for properties for sale in California that are over 1,000 acres. Pricing varies depending on location and exact size, but there's a lot under $5mil, and I even saw a 10,000 acre listing for under $15mil. So not as crazy as you think.

The problem with taxing sugary foods is some areas don’t have the access to health options. So really you’re just going to hurt poor people more. I believe they tried to tax soda before in a state and it didn’t lead to poor people drinking less soda. They just spent more money making them more poor. So I think taxing is fine, but those alternative options need to be accessible to everyone for it to actually help.
