I use surf wax as it makes the paddle much grippier. Ultimately it’s just personal preference but for me it means I don’t have to grip as hard when I’m paddling. It’s pretty essential to use wax if you want to wear gloves in the winter, otherwise it’s really tricky to get a solid grip on the shaft.
