Wow, ain't THAT the truth! Landecker and Lujack. There were a lot of really good disc jockeys back in the day - but nobody, and I mean NOBODY, beat Landecker and Lujack. Fred Winston (???) - I don't remember him. Maybe I was somewhere else at the time (or he came on past my bedtime?). One afternoon when I was a pimply teenager lying on a too-small towel to get some sun and listening to the radio on a fine spring day, Lujack intro'd a song with, "Great day to get out there, get some sun, and BURN those zits off!" My God, he really did know his audience! And Landecker? What can I say? Superb.
I lived almost 1000 miles from Chicago, and I too listened to JRL on the Big 89 WLS! The power of a clear-channel 50,000 watt 'blow-torch' radio station! 😀
You can listen to any radio station that carries it on I Heart Radio. The originating station in Indianapolis is 94.7/Q95 and it plays from 5-10 Eastern (extra pre-recorded preshow hour from 5-6) M-F and then a kind of best of on Saturday from 6-10.
Once again the shadows of night fall upon the major city in the Midwest, the boy in the box who is I, cautiously enters Oooohhh Aaaahh land. Are you talking to me?
@Instant Charma69: OK, let's get the full thing exactly right: "Once again as the shadows of night fall graciously upon the major metropolitan city in the midwest, the boy in the box who is I cautiously enters ooh ah land. Good evening boogiecheckers and a good evening to you. Is this a functional unit? (caller says yes) Once again, boogie check is broadcast. What follows has nothing to do with anyone's reality, most of all me, John Landecker, host and creator of the boogiechecker life who is not quite as mean as he seems as during the segment. Are you talking to me?
I remember 'CLARK WEBBER'...WLS 890 am....1963-68....Lujack came AFTER Clark. Clark Weber was hired for my High School's celebration of Homecoming ...'66
It amazes me that Tom could okay something so nice and heartfelt for Chick's birthday yet still manage to make it one of the most cringe-worthy mornings I've ever listened to. Tom's statement ("It's my show") said it all. If JRL is looking for a job, I'm pretty sure that didn't help him.
John could and can lay it on the line just like they do. I guaranty John would walk away a champ with plenty of work laid out for him with no worries if he wanted it!! 👍👍
I used to listen to WLS all the time back in the 70's. John Landecker, Fred Winston and Larry Lujack. Great disc jockeys at a great radio station. Now WLS is crap radio.
11:55 " the keyboard player played the song a little bit ' different' ? To modify the verb " played" you actually need an ADVERB "differently". . The keyboard player has no need of modification ( unless he's gender confused) David S.
"boogie Check boogie Check ooh aah " john records landecker is a radio legend and a big part of my childhood. My absolute favorite dj
Fantastic segment for us radio geeks. Landecker was indeed one of the best, right up there with Fred Winston and Larry Lujack.

John Records Landecker is a true radio legend for those of us who grew up near Chicago listening to the Big 89 WLS!

JOHN RECORDS LANDECKER DOES LOOK SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT FROM WHEN HE WAS ON WLS IN THE '70'S. HE DOES SOUND THE SAME.
In the early to middle 60's living in northern Va. I listened to WLS the Dick Bionti show almost every night.
Love John

It dates me some but I remember good ol' Uncle Lar, Larry Lujack on WLS.
"Charming and delightful Uncle Lar" and "Little snot nosed Tommy!"
Love me uncle lar
"World Famous Animal Stories!" I would crack up just listening to Tommy's laugh! Listened to John Landecker nightly during my college yrs at Purdue!

What mic does tom use? I know he doesnt achieve that buttery tone naturally....
I remember a guy told him that he's wife had good taste. John said, Yes my wife tastes good.
Reminds me of Sid Caesar.
Burl Ives?

If his middle name is really records than do you need the quotes in the title??
"Records truly is my middle name." Yes, someone messed up when they typed up the title. Because we all know; "Would John lie to you?" 😄
I used to hate "Boogie Check," I would switch the station until it was well over.......

Now David, gender (CONFUSED) May hurt someone's feelings.
I HATE that song!!!!!!!
