One Direction really are underappreciated because they are a boyband! Within the 5 years, they went on 4 tours (3 world tours, 2 of them arena and 1 stadium tour) and wrote and recorded 5 albums.. They wrote and recorded their songs on tour in hotel rooms or tour buses. It is incredible what these guys did and everyone deserved a break!
There wasn’t a leader of the band as such but they all had personalities that made the band what they were/ still are. Niall once said that if Louis was to leave the band would fall apart because he brought them all together. So although he wasn’t always the “most popular” (which is crazy in my opinion because he’s my favourite) he played a vital part in making the band what they were.

James is the sixth member of 1D and we're fine with that! He treats them as if they were a family. Each of them has a successful solo career. This is something that no other group has succeeded in yet. Each of them has its own style and each of them can sing. Even 6 years after the breakup, they have a milions devoted fans around the world. I think they are very extraordinary.
I would say right now Niall and Harry are probably the most popular ones when it comes to their solo music. If you haven't seen it yet, i highly recommend ot react to Niall's Solo "Nice to Meet Ya" and maybe you can also react to some Interviews or compilations of him, he's got that irish Humour and is hella funny but there seem to be lots of people who don't know about it.
