Yes, accountability, truth, and integrity. Accepting lies and indictments and allowing representatives to honestly represent ‘the people’ is morally and ethically wrong. It seems pretty simple to many of us.

Our politicians should be held to a higher standard: lying is part of the game, but fraud & actual strong indication of crime is not. Period.

Many said that they would wait for 2 weeks to see the findings of the ethics committee and go from there, so they have something to grapple his expulsion to, other than an indictment.
They did not save him. There was not enough for 60 percent even if they had voted to expell him.

Agree with Ana actually. The evidence does seem to overwhelming disfavor Santos, but it sets bad precedent to oust members who haven’t been convicted yet.

And as much as I hate to say it, Donald Trump was not indicted for insurrection, so he CANNOT be removed from the ballot under the 14th Amendment. Let the courts do their job, let them get justice, one way or another - and let Donald Trump suffer yet another humiliating loss at the ballot.

Katie Porter and Jamie Raskin are two of those Democrats who voted nay. But Raskin said he would immediately vote to expel if Santos is convicted of the charges. He also wrote on Santos' thank-you letter, "P.S.: It's not shameful to resign."

Also, if any one of us private citizens did a fraction of what he has been indicted for, we would be sitting in jail right now. However, Santos should live it up; a year goes by fairly quickly and I don't think Justice cares about majorities or precedents: you do the crime, you do the time!

I would like to say that, after pleading guilty and settling in Brazil for stealing the checkbook of a sick, elderly man, THAT ALONE should qualify you for expulsion. The very few things that Santos has admitted to, alone, are grounds for expulsion. As these ladies said, indictments are not simply slaps on the wrist, and they should come with some sort of consequence. If not expulsion, at the VERY least: SUSPENSION.
