Found this just in time for your discount code. My SQ-D60 has developed a loose tip fault, so wanted a well priced replacement that still made use of the tips I have,
Am I the only person to chuckle with the version being 3.14 and today is 3/14/2023 (today is Pi day)? ;) Nice review... I've had my eye on this nice little iron.
For work, and only when I'm out on site, I have a "Portasol" gas soldering iron. It's pretty good, but it generates a LOT of raised eyebrows from management types who start whispering "hot works permit" etc. The deep-orange glow of the gas catalyst sends them into a health and safety spin. I've been thinking about one of these "portable" soldering irons, but I just can't imagine having to deal with a separate battery pack and the leads. I'm trying to SIMPLIFY my operation, not make it more complex. I would happily live with something fat and heavy, so long as it had an onboard battery. Maybe a pair of 18650 cells side by side? My e-cig has this arrangement, and will happily deliver 75w in short bursts all day.
Funny. They do spit out a lot of hot exhaust gases but is it really any more dangerous than a normal soldering iron... Handle any type of them wrong and you get hurt...
Thanks for the video Kerry. I purchased this soldering iron but it was defective and I'm waiting for the second one to arrive. One thing I haven't figured out yet is if I can connect it, for example, to the car battery to give small soldering of wires, I don't care as much about the heating speed. I already have with me a cable declared for 5a from Usb c to Xt60 just to be able to connect it at will by putting an xt60 to my sources. What is meant by adapter cable on the product description? I also have a power supply from an old laptop with 19v and 3.42a, but with the new one I took the wall power supply (220V eu). I ask because I see USB C triggers for PD/QC and I wanted to know if it can be powered with normal DC power (car battery for example). Thanks if you can reply.
That button and menu setup seem way better than my TS80, I do like the recessed screen also. Looking at the listing I'd love to see the software, it's mad that it has a ESP chip inside of it, I wonder if we can use voice commands (alexa/google home) to control it?! Cheers for the review Kerry!
I was expecting a budget priced iron, yet this is quite a lot more $$ than a Pinecil with shipping. How so they compare, and why would anyone buy this over a Pinecil ??
The EU have a law where they want to make all power adapters USB3 because at the moment things like mobiles have many different standards meaning people waste a lot of money. One standard means economy of scale in manufacture and greater competition. Expect cheap USB3 PSUs in the future.
Thank you for the warning never to buy from Banggood due to insufficient packing for shipment and high possibility of damage. 👍👌 Does this iron rechargeable? Or needs outside power always?
To be fair, it's not really a Banggood issue. Their packaging is fine. I rarely see packages got mishandled to this degree. To answer your question, there is no built-in battery, it has to be plugged in.
OK, no way I'm using a soldering iron with a metal body connected to the tip. That's asking to get a nasty shock if you accidentally use it on live equipment!
Thats so so so bad. Hopefully youll never forget or flip the wrong breaker by accident and .... Yeah... There is a good reason 99% are not Metal and especially not connected to yhe tip... Its also an esd risk on top of an electrocution hazard. Its basically a defective soldering iron at this point. Either risk yourself or risk the components... Esd strap or not...
@Brian Ortiz So, as I said, it's not portable. I can take my Weller off the bench, carry it somewhere and plug it in. Does that make my Weller "portable"?

Nice review... I've had my eye on this nice little iron.
The case may be connected to USB C connector shielding which is at ground i think... So that's how it could be grounded.
Nice review Mr Wong. It is a nice little iron and at a very attractive price. Looks like i'll be putting it into my kit
How is it been running?
Are you still using it for your daily iron.
Recommended??
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for review and it seems like a good option....cheers.
I wonder how it compares to the Pinecil v2
It's 198 better than a Pinecil v2, 100 better than a TS100, and 99 better than a TS101

Have you figured out how to update? I cant find where to download firmware
Is the small finger on your left hand fire proof? It looks like it is resting on the heating element during the current testing.
LOL! Must be the angle of the camera.
Hi I'm planning to get one in this coming sales. How is it now? Thanks 👍
Works fine still.
I definitely buy one! Thanks 😊

Yes, this one can be powered by a standard power supply as I have demonstrated in the video.

You sure about the ESP? I was hoping IronOS would be compatible...
@@hoaxal the software is an arduino project and the chip is indeed esp32s4
no alexa integration since RF parts arent populated.
omg t12 soldering tips? and 100w? I NEED ONE!
Wouldn't the USB connection ground the iron if connected to a PC or similar?
The tip is not physically connected to the circuit ground when I tested it, so unless the body is grounded the tip would be afloat.

Gotta love how they just took our (PINE64) logo and slapped it on that iron...
How dare they steal ⏚!?

It's neat for a portable iron but for a main device i will stick to my Ersa i-con
If it needs to be connected to a power source I don't call that portable Don't really see what thing adds above my Weller
@@gordonwedman3179 Of course it needs a power source lol

@@gordonwedman3179 You can power this kind of soldering iron with battery packs or power banks. More portable than Weller I would say.
