I literally didn't know it was humanly possible to hold your breath for 6 minutes, until that interview with Tom Cruise came out. The fact that Kate Winslet has now surpassed that record is mind-boggling to me.
I can barely hold my breath underwater for almost a minute, and that is very difficult. There's no way I could do much longer than that. Most people can't do over 2 minutes.
@@bobby1970 you can do it easily bro. Like i can't do a 30 second breath stop at 15. Now I am 17 i can hold it for 3 minutes. And even i am not regularly doing it. I do it occasionally. You don't have realised how capable your body is.
I've trained for that kind of thing, it is not easy to get past 2-3 minutes, while also moving around. The world record stuff is people using various methods to slow their metabolism, and they just hang there motionless. What Tom and Kate did was seriously impressive for someone who hasn't been doing that kind of thing their whole life. They weren't just holding their breath they were also swimming. That cuts your time down a lot.
Kate is the most complete actor in at least, 25 years. She is not a Meryl Streep of our generation, she is unic, one of a kind in each performance. She must be praised for her skills.

uhh, they're neglecting to tell everyone that Kate Winslet and Tom Cruise were on pure oxygen or at least breathing in gas with higher concentration of oxygen than room air when they were doing this. Anyone with some training can achieve this on 100% oxygen, or if you hyperventilate (which is really dangerous to ask someone to do for a movie that can just be CGI'd well enough, even if there are medical professionals on scene to help someone if/when they black out and start drowning). The record holder for NON-OXYGEN AIDED static apnea breath hold is 9 minutes for women, 11 minutes for men. More recent attempts were all in the 8 minute threshold, and these were all by professional free divers with years of experience. Making it seem like these actors are just willy nilly almost breaking records for breath holds on what the majority of the public will assume was "room air" is so fucking dumb and misinformative.
Personally, I can not wait for the directors cut to come out well worth the wait. I have no doubt Avatar will do what it needs to do over Christmas weekend and beyond. I saw it yesterday and I've got two more showings booked this week. I'll be booking more showings during and after Christmas as well. I'm positive others will also go out of their way to see and experience this movie in 3D. I got chills watching it. It was such a visceral and emotional experience. My only disappointment/complaint is that we won't get the movie that happens in between the two. Those have been adopted into graphic novels. Unfortunately, those graphic novels just don't do that story justice. I want the movie when Jake and Ney'tiri are starting their family and developing their love. Thats the season of my life I'm in and its the movie I need in my life right now.

Reviews aren't that good. Also, I don't know why they filmed the motion capture in water. In the movie, there is no actor visible. The motion capture is for reference only. The way they filmed Aquaman, there was no need for water. They flimed the actors. All I have heard about this movie is: new 3D, motion capture under water, new technologie, better CGI. If the technology of the movie is the selling point, that must say something about the actual movie. I saw Avatar in cinema in 3D. I thought it was boring, way too long, at times just stupid. I miss the James Cameron who made Terminator 2. Great story, great acting, great movie. Now it seems like he cares more about the technology of movie making, than making a movie.

In Spain, a young kid set the record for holding his breath underwater for either 24 or 26 minutes…. Amazing! ETA: unless someone else has broken it, here is the info I found. “ Aleix Segura i Vendrell, in 2016, broke the Guinness Book of World Records for staying underwater for 24 mins and 3.45 seconds.” He looks pretty young when he achieved this, and now is an accomplished free diver.

Somebody posted one point which seems logical, while Tom cruise is moving under water for the scene kate stayed idle as moving consumes more oxygen, so Tom's one is not comparable to Kate's

Also, I don't know why they filmed the motion capture in water. In the movie, there is no actor visible. The motion capture is for reference only.
The way they filmed Aquaman, there was no need for water. They flimed the actors.
All I have heard about this movie is: new 3D, motion capture under water, new technologie, better CGI.
If the technology of the movie is the selling point, that must say something about the actual movie.
I saw Avatar in cinema in 3D. I thought it was boring, way too long, at times just stupid.
I miss the James Cameron who made Terminator 2. Great story, great acting, great movie.
Now it seems like he cares more about the technology of movie making, than making a movie.

Do we know what she was doing for 6 min? Do we know that Tom Cruise was moving the whole 6 min and it wasn't just a test scene to see how long they could hold their breath? Thank god records don't get defined by opinions like yours.

“ Aleix Segura i Vendrell, in 2016, broke the Guinness Book of World Records for staying underwater for 24 mins and 3.45 seconds.” He looks pretty young when he achieved this, and now is an accomplished free diver.
The current record is by a 56 year old man. 24 min 37 sec in Croatia
