    I have the 50mm Summircon Ver III, Zeiss 50mm f/1.5 and 50mm f/2, and a LTM Nikkor 5cm f/2.
I find that all are great and I love them for different reasons, but this Zeiss 50mm f/1.5, while critically less sharp than the f/2 lenses, makes just beautiful images that look great on the wall.
I only shoot on film, and I haven’t noticed missed shots due to a focus shift.

First I agree very much with your concluding remarks on gear. Then, I own apo summicron m asph 50mm and this sonnar zm 50mm. I like both of them very much.

Sigfrid, thank you so much for watching. I also own both as well and find them both to be a delight to use.

Actually, in terms of rendering at f2 to f5.6 I much prefer this sonnar over any leica lens (save for perhaps the summitar).

Same here, I just love the images from this lens. A beautiful overall look to the image that makes for pleasant photos. I actually have a landscape of a boat in Hong Kong that I shot, and it is certainly sharp enough at f/5.6-8.

I just recently purchased my 1st Leica camera and was looking into the Zeiss Sonar 50 or the older version Leica Summilux Wetzlar Lens

Question! Sonnar 1.5 or Summicron or planar. I mostly shoot wide open. And I use a m10, the only thing I’m afraid of is the focus shift I’ve been reading and hearing about

Great question! I have both the Sonnar and the summicron. I think the focus shift becomes an issue on film and not on digital. The Cron is a great lens but, to be honest, I always reach for the Sonnar because of the extra stop of light.

That’s my biggest debate, I am a bokeh fanatic, that’s why I always shoot wide open. I’m really confused when I read a lot of people say it exist on film and not as much on digital. Or vice versa. By that do you mean it doesn’t happen as often because of the way it’s captured or because you use live view? This is my first Leica, I got it about a month ago, I’ve been using the 35 1.5 Nokton. I realize minimum focus distance is 0.7 compare to other brands so I can’t really “use a 35 as a 50” by stepping closer. Especially shooting on objects like food or items I’m not getting the bokeh I want. That’s why I’m looking at a 50, and of course not all of us runs gold in our blood. I’m looking for a “perfect” M 50 I will be using for years. And I plan to focus on the 50 as my prime focal length, I think the limitation improves my skills, my budget right now is 3k max.
