Nice video, very useful thank you. While the oe bags do look and feel good they are very heavy and seem to be unnecessarily complicated. Mine live on brackets on the garage wall 95% fo the time.
Nice video. My cases seem to be working just fine at the moment but think I'll service the locking mechanisms in my cases the same. After all, as you said, not being able to open the luggage on a trip would be highly undesirable. 👍
Yeah, being thousands of miles from home is not where you want to find a stuck case. Mine was also working fine, until suddenly it wasn't. It really doesn't take that long to do.
Thanks for the important information. Question, my boxes do not fit snugly to the bike. The rear mounts on both sides are loosely fitted? Is that normal? Thanks again.
The cases can get loose. You may find that you can use adhesive felt or rubber to tighten up the fit, either by applying some to the bottom catch area or to the upper support posts. You have to watch that it doesn't get too tight, though, or you'll have trouble getting them off the bike.
This video should have been made 10 years ago. I have had to do this to my bike 05 1200st is uses same side cases. But I have had to this4 times now. And I’m in Phoenix az where we have a lot of sand in the air. And I don’t off road at all.
How did you go about removing the old grease from all the nooks and crannies? Silicon lube spray, WD-40, brake cleaner (gasp)? I have lots of grit in everything.
In a sense it doesn't matter as long as whatever you use doesn't damage the plastic, especially on the outside. If you have lots of grit I would start with a rag to get the bulk of it out and then use spray. Test on a small spot first. Or, if you have access to compressed air, you could use a mix of Dawn dishwashing soap and water to loosen everything up and then spray that off with compressed air.
This video couldn’t be better timed, and thanks to you i just fixed my case in an evening. Thank you for uploading, you saved me a lot of money
Timing is everything in life! Glad it was helpful.
Really good to see inside those side cases and see just how they operate. Thanks for a great video. 👍🇬🇧

If you use the bike mostly around town the bags are probably not that useful. I use my RT for long trips, so I do keep them on all the time.

I'm sure climate can play a part. In your area heat may be a problem too.
This is a very instructional video. Thanks a lot!

Thank You :-)
Thank you

Sorry, but I didn't understand where to put the little wire clip
I pointed to that at 8:20. I think you'll find that if you have the end of the clip installed like I've shown that the clip will only fit one way.
