You can tell Graham really loves Kathleen, when she states she gave him an out and he still sang the song anyways. It's stuff like this that makes me tear up and a little bit jelly.
See I would point to their mutual embrace of each other's Very Reasonable Complaints like "the historical accuracy of the soundtrack of this trailer" and "the names of the spells in an Atlus game"
I am often enlightened by the content made by LRR Their clever takes on all their int'rests are what makes them such a star But I am most delighted when they put way too much effort in To make a bit of content where the style seems tuned to make me grin. Song parodies (and patter songs) are such an absolute delight And more impressive still to think that Graham wrote that thing overnight 'cause when his spouse sprang it on him, there can't have been the time to see The total spread of items made to fill the void left by E3. Moreover there's the acting too - they are all great, but for today It's G's resigned look and voice that carry off the joke, I'd say Though Kathleen's take on Metaphor had passionate intensity I have to give the highest score to all the jokes around E3. In fact, when I consider all the hours I've watched their skits and streams When I can say that Qwerpline has now sev'ral times been in my dreams When I can quote from mem'ry several dozen good Road Quest bon mots And when I can remember all the things from in their Nightmare shows. From a meta viewpoint in LRR sketches he frequently plays the role of the Straight Man and him acting like the craziness of his co-host is unexpected is basically him taking that role into Checkpoint.
Also, with regards to the post-credit Maple Story "who is this for": ... I'm led to believe this one developer, who presumably likes the cover of Go West and following the decision to not go with the Korean updates has just decided to go full mad tyrant and do whatever they want? /joking
This is one of those episodes where you can see everyone was on Point. I loved Kathleens unbridled enthusiasm especially with the Atlus story and Graham's semi straight man energy helped balance out the wild chaos. Well Done to everyone involved
If only Fugi and I could have predicted back in 2010 the coming rise of clicker games, maybe we could have turned ClickQuest into the megahit it clearly should have been.
Unrelated to any stories in this episode, but if anyone in the LRR office likes monster-collecting games and/or turn based tactics, there's an upcoming game called Beastieball that they'd likely enjoy. The pitch for it is, "What if Pokémon battles were a 2v2 turn-based volleyball match?"
Every time I hit the "For You" button on Twitter, I immediately panic as I scroll back up and go back to the "Following" feed, and just hope that it remembers my choice and doesn't randomly go back to the "For You" feed.
0:20 - oh, the times I've had my personal volume up too high because of that are legion. 4:20 - Geoff Keighley's Corporate Feely is proving to be _almost_ as useless as E3 was in giving us accurate game play information. 6:00 - That soft sigh was pretty much what we all felt at that moment, Graham. Mad props for making it work. 9:00 - More like a stock bubble than a pyramid scheme. The diff is that the suckers are playing each other, just like Wall Street.
Holy cow, the Maple Story segment suddenly converging with the Blops 6 post story segment, seriously makes such a good story! I'm sure it may have been too narrow for some of the checkpoint audience, but it was *chefs kiss* very good!
Loved the modern major general segment. Very well done Graham. Also thank you both Graham and Kathleen for pointing out the spells and song disparity. That is how my brain often works with that kind of "change" Thank you as a small part of me feels represented
TIL, the Pet Shop Boys covered Go West, a song I know because I've been lately listening to a lot of the Village People. I hear the song as a queer liberation song which is very meaningful to me. Trans rights are human rights! 🏳⚧
I immediately went and synced the Pet Shop Boys - Go West and the COD 22: Blops 6 gameplay reveal trailer, and yeah, it kinda works, there's a few moments that sync up pretty well, but it's a bit monotonous and way too long for the trailer length.
thankyou for remembering me Hype: The Time Quest. I played the PC version and received a huge nostalgia hit right to the brain at the start of this video.
My go to when someone says Go West is the duo who made "King of Wishful Thinking" which was released in March 1990 making it diegetically appropriate for Black Ops 6.
I (proudly) nailed the scansion. The original has alternating stanzas of 6 and 4 lines, I went with 6 and 2 for brevity, ending with a 4 line stanza. It wasn’t perfect, but that was on purpose.
Graham's skills never cease to amaze!!! Also agree on song choice annoyance and confusion? Also also, HARD agree with Kathleen on spell names and that fish just ain't right
The Banana Clicker isn't a pyramid scheme. It's whatever the Beanie Baby thing was. Useless tat sold at reasonable prices initially only to be resold at price gouging levels due to artificial scarcity. (Sounds like a scam, but not one involving pyramids.)
@@WhiteWizard42 And for those that neither already know of it nor grok it from the title: it is the fallacious assumption of a buyer of that "there will be an even bigger fool that will buy it from *me* for more than I paid"
Anyone else notice when it cuts to Blumhouse at 7:42, there's an artifact on the spinning background graphic on the top left that lasts almost exactly 25 seconds? Wonder what's up with that
I am a project manager. I don't like giving big presentations in front of large groups. I was asked to present at my companies yearly all-company event the topic: Tell us about the projects you have closed this year. I did the entire thing as a Modern Major General parody. It slammed. Excellent work on the song, Graham. While I’m glad there are so many ways for indie devs to showcase their games now, I also wish it was easier to keep track of all the game news.
Graham confirmed: not a coward. Via one of the greatest segments Checkpoint has ever done.
Now release the Ian cover, and the Beej cover.
Then we'll remix them into a trio.
@@matohibiki I want to hear Cameron's rendition.
Graham has gone Maximum Theater Nerd and it's glorious to behold.
Dude can block warriors all day!
@@matohibiki Don't forget Paul, he can really sing (At least he could last time I managed to catch some Desert Bus).

Is this Graham loving Kathleen, or Graham loving *comedy*?
@@Sarusta I think the answer is "Yes".
@@Sarusta Especially given that Graham *wrote* the lyrics
See I would point to their mutual embrace of each other's Very Reasonable Complaints like "the historical accuracy of the soundtrack of this trailer" and "the names of the spells in an Atlus game"
Graham confirmed to be a warrior, not a coward.
Glory to the House of Stark - K'plah!
This man simply cannot be blocked.
That song was just amazing. Well done to whoever wrote all of that!
Edit: Oh, well done Graham!
It's good when the rising tide lifts all ship. If the rising tide only lifts half of your ship, you know you're in for a bad day.
When only half of your ship goes anywhere, you have a very upset fandom.
8:00 I'm impressed by how graham sounded so dejected and yet gave his monotone summary a hint of melody .
Points, Checked.
Rhythms, Algo'd

You win the comment section! 😊🎉
Spectacular work. Read this whole thing in the Major General voice, it was delightful.
why is Graham so good at acting like he has NO IDEA what is about to happen to him?
Because he's an actor? I mean, that's part of what they do at Loading Ready Run.
25 years as a professional actor.
From a meta viewpoint in LRR sketches he frequently plays the role of the Straight Man and him acting like the craziness of his co-host is unexpected is basically him taking that role into Checkpoint.
(in the voice of Jesse from Braking Bad) "Because he's a professional".... 💜
More than half a lifetime of practice
Graham kicked cancer's ass, OF COURSE he's going to do that entire ~3 minute Gilbert and Sullivan bit!
...I can only offer a slow clap for that song. So here you go
/slowclap
The song was awesome, but also: That image of a dog labelled "NATURE" biting a vacuum is deeply underrated
It absolutely made me crack up when I first saw it! Paul does great work.
"They dare put me in the position of defending Ubisoft" is... perfectly delivered. Thank you, Graham.
Also, with regards to the post-credit Maple Story "who is this for": ... I'm led to believe this one developer, who presumably likes the cover of Go West and following the decision to not go with the Korean updates has just decided to go full mad tyrant and do whatever they want? /joking
Graham, not the coward, absolutely killed that Modern Major Gaming Hype.
Rian Johnson is naming all his Knives Out movies after whatever song he just listened to so surely Maple Story can do the same lol
This is one of those episodes where you can see everyone was on Point. I loved Kathleens unbridled enthusiasm especially with the Atlus story and Graham's semi straight man energy helped balance out the wild chaos. Well Done to everyone involved
I'm glad I Checked it out
Graham seems viscerally pained to defend Ubisoft.
Professionals have standards!
As is right
Parodies of Gilbert and Sullivan and Kathleen monologuing about Atlas games is exactly why I am here.
From opening with CapsLock shouting, to the G&S ending, this episode was amazing.
Graham, you monster. That was glorious. I didn't think you'd do it at all, and then there were, like, four verses of perfection.
I just watched the Black Ops 6 trailer with Go West playing over it. It's scary how well it works.
Greater Fool Theory is what it is, the banana clicker game. Each person thinks they can find a greater fool to unload their bag onto.
This is one of my top three Modern Major General parodies. (the other two are Mordin's and the Reboot one)
Now we're back together and everything is alphanumeric!
I can only assume you haven't encountered the _Freeman's Mind_ version, because otherwise it would inevitably be in your top three
The song: perfect no note.
If only Fugi and I could have predicted back in 2010 the coming rise of clicker games, maybe we could have turned ClickQuest into the megahit it clearly should have been.
Just think - with y'all sitting on the trademark, there has been no other game out there to try to dominate the genre with such an iconic title.
I am stating for the public record that I like this.
Unfortunately, it looks like the Pet Shop Boys cover of Go West came out in 1993, so it would still be diegetically anachronistic in Blops6.
The Village People's Go west was a hint to lgbtq+ folks to head to San Francisco :)
Yay, a new episode of Kathleen Saves The World!
*Insert "That's why he's the GOAT" meme here*
Legendary work, Graham!

Graham popping off with a Gilbert and Sullivan parody and journalism? Yes, please!

Wow. I haven't heard a good parody of Modern Major-General since ReBoot season 3 back in 1998. You Canadians are good with that jingle.
Holy cow, the Maple Story segment suddenly converging with the Blops 6 post story segment, seriously makes such a good story! I'm sure it may have been too narrow for some of the checkpoint audience, but it was *chefs kiss* very good!
Graham's still getting use out of his Elements Song training, I see!
Graham, I'm with you, the second you said "1991" and then "Firestarter" I screeched with indignation. We all know this!
So how many people were roasting the Elongated Muskrat for his Likes list?
GRAHAM OMG WOW. I got to meet you once in line before a panel at I think maybe PAX South? And I'm constantly in awe of your talent. You got CHOPS
The fact that Graham could have said no makes him a hero. bravo sir.
"A rising tide lifts all ship" is more accurate to the financial reality.

So, if Graham isn't a Coward...

Not necessarily, but he can block Warriors.
Very Brave, Graham

.... Okay that modern major gaming news bit was amazing. How long until someone records it to the music?
Those goddamn cowards at EA dont' have the stones to release a CoD game to the 1991 classic hit Vanilla Ice Ninja Rap.
Go Ninja Go Ninja Go!
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE AND SONG WRITING

Close enough! Where'd I put that time machine; I have to go talk to some people that are making a game trailer...
First joke is a BANGER.
The post show chat was amazing. You two are just delightful.
My support for musical numbers in videogames news programs is strong, but subtle. One could say it moves WITH CAT-LIKE TREAD, UPON OUR PREY WE STEAL!
are you releasing your butthole cut
Modern major Graham
thankyou for remembering me Hype: The Time Quest. I played the PC version and received a huge nostalgia hit right to the brain at the start of this video.
That's a marriage, making good on the promises made by the other... Great work, Graham!
Amazing job, Graham! Even Elon can't hide how much I liked this!
I love patter songs. Bravo.
**Gilbert & Sullivan would like to know your location.**
Love checkpoint and all of LRR as always. But that was top shelf, Grahamathan. Cheers!
Petition to make every future CheckPoint a series of Gilbert and Sullivan parodies. All in favour?
My favorite part was actually the "Modern Major General" bit. It was very well done.
My go to when someone says Go West is the duo who made "King of Wishful Thinking" which was released in March 1990 making it diegetically appropriate for Black Ops 6.
To Kathleen and Graham: I appreciate your commitment to lyrical meter in song parody.
Graham staying up late burning the midnight prose. 🥰
Graham poppin OFF with that with the Gilbert and Sullivan parody! Great stuff.
This tide has lifted my ship out of the E3 void! How engaging!
Graham is not a coward.
Graham can block.
Jimmy having a 'math is for blockers' ptsd flashback.
Re: BlOps6, they also show Bill Clinton in the trailer so presumably the game takes place throughout the 90s.
This is the first modern major geenral rendition i have heard set as a dirge... loved it Graham, canonically not a coward!
Absolutely stellar work from everyone involved in the MMG segment. Fantastic!
glad Graham confirmed it I thought I was hearing Mad World in that gears trailer but without lyrics I just chalked it up to me making it up in my head
Gotta love Graham having a nerd out about music in trailers
That whole Mad World / Gears of War thing was really good back in the day, fond memories
Kinda want those lyrics so I can try and sing along... I THINK you nailed the structure
I (proudly) nailed the scansion. The original has alternating stanzas of 6 and 4 lines, I went with 6 and 2 for brevity, ending with a 4 line stanza. It wasn’t perfect, but that was on purpose.

Graham! Mad World was in the trailer for Gears 1! The first one!!!! When it started playing in GED, I was stoked.
that song was *amazing* excellent job Graham.
Had to like it just for Graham's performance. Bravo, good sir!

I wouldn’t really describe any price as reasonable for a digital banana with absolutely no functionality.

Excellent work on the song, Graham. While I’m glad there are so many ways for indie devs to showcase their games now, I also wish it was easier to keep track of all the game news.
I now look forward to next year's June Junk-boree for more Gilbert & Sullivan-tuned journalism.
I love you folks. Excellent work by all.
applause for the pirates of penzance bit... very great!
Did anyone else take a second to respond to "Sorry, I left the caps lock on."?
The Modern Major General bit was worth the price of admission. A bargain at twice the price.
As much as I loved that Major General parody, no one can beat Reboot’s parody at the end of season 3 😂😂😂
The Major Generals song? I feel that's going to be a desert bus challenge 🤣🤣

you did a very good job making it scan
