42:49 Spiff, the direction you can swing is based on what direction you grab the rock. If you grabbed this rock head on, then twisting to the other rock is a 180 degree turn, which your hand can't do, however you can reposition your hand by grabbing it from the left side, meaning turning to the other side is only a 90 degree turn, and you can turn and swing just like normal. Hope this helped, and good luck peaking!
The John Yore theory could be right, but is maybe(?) broken down by the meaning ‘Yore’. Yore means a long time ago or something nostalgic, which would mean these peaks are old, which the name implies: Peaks of Yore. But again, Yore is also a last name (that even one of my friends has lol).
47:23 Local French guy here. Spiff doesn't say "I will die" in French but "I will pass (go through). "I will die" would be "Je vais mourir" in French. Now that I think about it, maybe it was just a joke and I'm stupid. Anyway, still a PEAK video ! Keep the good work !
I'm not sure if my french is wrong but I thought that 'je vais' is 'i am going to' so for 'I will d*e', it is 'je mourrai'. I may be wrong though and no rudeness intended.
@ThatRoundGuy In this sentence, "I will die" seems to be in the near future so "Je vais mourir" work better in French. Ya know, I didn't think I'd be *as* high up as I was in the UA-cam Rewind for Spiff watch time. I've been rewatching all of Spiff's videos, ontop of watching new stuff, and that netted me a spot in the top 0.3% of Spiff fans.
31:26 those highlighted ones are the actual climbs, actual holds, the volumes are the pyramid-like ones that can be used but are the same color as the wall
spiff you are just. so incredibly correct about going in a hot tub in the snow. i had a small christmas holiday in 2022 and we got the first snow that night while we were all in the hot tub. the sky was still pretty clear so we could see the full moon directly above us too and it was just. magical. im usually a meme bullsh!t commenter but honestly thanks for reminding me of that time with your hot tub talk lol
In the example used, the highlighted parts of the climb are still holds, probably best described as slopers, which are not easy to hold as they are, well, sloped. Volumes are things that are attached to the wall, but is still considered part of the 'wall', and therefore can have holds mounted on them, and can be used in any climb. In the example image, the middle white hold is mounted on a volume, and the tho black holds close to each other are to the right of another volume. Volumes aren't found in outdoor climbing, and are basically used in indoor climbing to modify the wall to accommodate different routes without having to rebuild the entire wall. All this said, slopers would likely be the best equivalent to the 'volumes' in game, or you could call them 'directional' holds, but that is not a type of hold but just something that any hold could be.
Ive only now realized how similar dougdoug and spigg do the message highlights, yknow like when one of them reads a chat message and its highlighted on screen Just a fun fact i wanted to share, though it could be pure coincidence

hey spiff, small chance you'll read this, but i just wanted you to know that your content has helped me through my tough times. as of writing this comment, i've just gone through nasal surgery where my nasal septum had to be removed due to being crooked, on top of my dire sinus infection. watching you ramble on and on and falling down over and over again has made my experience that little bit more bearable, so i thank you very much for all you do. love from malaysia

31:23 I believe those are just normal holds, volumes are large blocks or whatever sticking out of the wall, usually the same color as the wall, or grey, or even the same color as the route. These are used to give the wall shape and usually makes the climbs more interesting. They are not holds, but you can use them in any way you want to help you get to the top.
i agree with the sweaty palms while watching guy, im sat here and my palms are so sweaty wanting him to not fall, playing this game does things to you man..
German guy here to explain the "Grüß Gott" thing. It translates roughly to "Greet God". Sounds a little passive aggressive in English, but it's a common greeting in southern Germany and Austria. The "ß" letter is pronounced as a very sharp s and is commonly referred to as an "sz". And the "Ü" is also written as "ue". Very hard to explain how it sounds, but Google translate can tell you
@@galactic-hamster7043 Probably the wrong choice of words there. Allow me to rephrase. I failed the oral portion of my checkride, and was unable to perform the flight test afterwards. That should get the FAA off my back, right?
Fun fact to hype people up for the next one: because of the way distance in the base game's arctic peaks is scaled, multiple of the book 3 dlc peaks are almost as long as tempest despite only reading as 1-2k
