This interviewer keeps cutting off James just as he is about to relate something important, then the conversation comes back around to James again coming naturally to his point. The interviewer is just trying to keep him on task of promoting the movie and having a conversation. James loses his way a few times in this and seems to bristle a bit when the interviewer interjects to bring him back onto a track. He seems to be OK with it because the interviewer is so warm with him and the subject of the film, but still the interviewer has to be strong in directing the conversation because James is so passionate. That's a fine line for an interviewer of getting someone comfortable enough to open up and be passionate, but also knowing when to reign them in.

    • @jaydauria4593
      @jaydauria4593 4 роки тому +1

@@carolyntrumble3505 James Franco isn't retarded.. I'm pretty sure he can speak his mind and then continue with the questions after he is finished speaking. Plain and simple, the interviewer cuts him out too many times and over talks the man a dozen times. I would've been annoyed if I were Franco. You can still steer the conversation, despite James saying an extra few points of his opinion on the subjects. There are no rules to interviews. The best ones are where the passion of conversation gets off topic and goes down an interesting path. Look at Joe Rogan podcast.. He asks and then let's the guest speak to let everything out and I find that MUCH MORE intriguing than what this dude did.

This interviewer sucks! The guy had no skill or patience to listen to what James really wanted to say. He just wanted short answers, and that's not what true artists give. To be fair, an interviewer's job is to keep the interview moving and get answers to questions quickly, especially in a 20 min. format. James has a tendency to talk and talk and talk and talk some more. When he finally stops he's light years from the original question that still remains unanswered. Yes, James had many interesting, funny, and insightful anecdotes. But, most are straight from Greg's book and I think the interviewer is simply trying to corral James into a more concise conversation due to time restrictions. Read Greg's book, or listen to Greg's audiobook for 11 hours of nonstop continuous pure Tommy/The Room madness first hand from the man who was there. It's amazing.

At 7:09, James Franco mentions a documentary called American Movie, about another person trying to make a movie, named Mark Borchardt. I laughed out loud when he said that, because I had already thought that Tommy Wiseau's story reminded me very much of Mark Borchardt's story, in that he also was a person who desperately wanted to make a movie. They couldn't be more different as people, but their drive was the same. In Borchardt's case, even though he starred in his own ultra-ultra-ultra low budget horror movie ("The Coven", pronounced CO-VEN, as in woven, not coven, as in oven, for reasons only Borchardt understood but insisted on), his drive was more as a director and writer, rather than an actor. It took him three years of working at hard (sometimes demeaning) minimum wage jobs to gather the film and resources of this short film he willed into existence.
He drafted everyone (and I mean everyone, including his own mom and grandfather) into being part of it.
The documentary was made by his film teacher, Chris Smith, and is very bit as fascinating, hilarious and heart rending as The Room is.
I think it's great that James Franco saw the parallels between the two, and that he saw the heart in both men....

The room is just a super low budget bad movie basically written and shot with dialog like the worst soap opera ever. I guess Tommy had a lot of free time on his hands during the day and watched a lot of soap operas. Is it the worst movie ever? I’m not sure, I’ve seen a lot of bad movies that are not nearly as famous as this one.
    Maybe….
Tommy maybe on The Spectrum and realized That although he intended one thing he built something else that people laughed at and still liked. He embrace this even though he wasn’t trying to be funny. This is very typical of people on the spectrum. 😇 pure passion and pure emotion. 😇
James: “When he tries to be funny, he can’t.” Heartbreaking. 😓 “Weird mental gymnastics” to convert it into approval. This is a very real real statement.

It kind of reminds me of that stuff that the "joker" movie was exploring yet this movie was a whopper success.

Correction - there is no millions of bad movies - there is only 2 500 000 movies in history overall (accoring imdb)

The other actors did a pretty good job. The actress who played Lisa's mom did good in the scene on the roof. "Somebody better do SOMETHING!" when that kid nearly gets killed for doing drugs.

"The bad movie that launched a thousand discussions!" Hahahahhaha! Andy Warhol would have loved this cat. Warhol: Hey Tommy I love what you are doing. Can you do a screen test for me? I do bad art that everybody loves too.

I'd like to understand why this interviewer and Jimmy Kimmel, among others, think it's ok to openly insult Tommy Wiseau openly in every way possible, knowing that he's probably going to listen to it someday?
I assume that Jimmy Kimmel and this guy expect some kind of courtesy from people who are talking about them....

Well, Franco is missing a part in his story: At first, Tommy filed DMCA takedowns against all "negative" reviews that made fun of the movie, threatening to sue them, because he thought it was a legitimate masterpiece. Only *later* he embraced the "so bad it's good"-mentality, when he realized *that's* where he can make money off.

I get it, you only have a certain amount of time to interview him and you have to get through all your questions, but man, just let him talk for a little bit.
