- Krappie Kings- Season 1- Eps 6- From the slick calm waters of Pickwick Lake Alabama Karl hooks up with Brad Whitehead for a morning of 'side pulling' jigs for suspended summertime crappie.
Very interesting to see this, I wish my dad was still alive. Grew up Frostproof FL. My dad would do this on Lake Walk-in-Water, Reedy Lake, Livingston Lake as long as I can remember.
Thanks for watching Roger
Too much fun! Love it! Thank you Karl !! 🎣😀
Thanks for watching David
Now that's what I call fun. I love Alabama. My largest came out of Weiss Lake years ago when I contracted for a year with T.V.A. She was just barely under 3 lbs. Man, it was cold that day.
Love that boat
Long lining, sideways
Very nice video, and a very nice representation of what Alabama fishing and hospitality is about.
thank you. Glad I`m going back to Bama this spring
I'm so ready to go. Gotta finish renovating the camper first, then I'm GONE!!
sorry you feel that way, but side pulling and spider rigging with multiple poles is a very very popular way to fish for crappie across the U.S.
ExtremeAnglerTV and just because its popular doesn't make it very sporting.
It's for the food, same guys usually go out and fish with one rod some, too. This works to catch your limit when your harvesting.
@@mikewest712 so that's there business. I fish with with 20 poles
@@maryclouser3748 every state and lake has different rules and creel limits, as they do sizes to catch and keep. To each its own I say.
Nice one! What kind of Rod and reel outfit were you using? What kind of line? Looks like a blast! Thank you.
B n M Poles rods made for side pulling with fluorocarbon line; they are called 'The Difference by Roger Gant' who pioneered this deadly technique of trolling for crappie.
Great video! I like that trolling motor setup, being able to stow it like he did.
Do you mount your transducer any differently when using this technique?
i did this 20 years ago with 2 trolling mtors 1 front bow mount 1aft transom mount
these guys could be brother's
What kind of 1/4 oz hair jigs are you using???
No idea, they looked like hand tied
What kind of boat is that??
War Eagle made in U.S. I think.
Saw Bill Dance do this 20 years ago
Bill Dance did everything 20 years ago lol. Legend
that's funny weve been pulling cranks from side of boat since seventies
richard cline va has gd crappy too
Spit on it pawpawwww! 2 more days and ill be wearing em out wit ya!! We gotta bouta 100 last weekend
Awesome I've fished Pickwick lake for bass but never for crappie in June. It's a great lake.
+Slim Jim thank you for watching
Has anyone ever tried side pulling with a semi V bottom aluminum jon boat? I have a 1966 StarCraft 14ft. jon boat and thinking of giving this a try.
I am sure it will work, good luck
where can i gt those holders for the rods
Try TITE-LOCK they make a lot of different rod holders for all kinds of boats.
If its june in alabama thenwhy do you have a hoody on
well, it was June, and it was hot, so it must be `bama
You have given me fish fever. Oh man. I need to go
I have the fever all the time, lol. thx for watching
wow this is really awesome!
Just how long ago did that guy come up with side pulling?
Two brothers came up with the idea, Brad uses the same technique in Alabama
ExtremeAnglerTV bout the same time I did but you can claim the invention.. laughable
Good looking set up, who makes those rod holders?
+vernon moore I cannot recall who makes the ones on that boat, possible home made, we like the DRIFTMASTER styles for crappie boats
Definatly trying this
It works all the time, and on those deeper summer slabs
I really like your videos because they help a lot, when i go to my dad's house that's the lake we fish. keep up the great videos, you should fish wheeler lake sometime its got some really great fishing and some great people around it.
Dylan Watson thanks for watching
ExtremeAnglerTV I don't know but bill dance started the fish kissing why don't you kiss the arse area?
Nice video, where do you get your rod holders?
Try Driftmaster, they make a lot of the custom rod holders for crappie anglers in the U.S.
very good job dude
thanks for watching
I was wondering what kind of boat that is I want one
War Eagle crappie boat from Arkansas
That's nice fish and guys I'm going to look up and buy me a boat like that
What make and model boat is that?
+Paul Powell It is a War Eagle boat; very popular in the U.S. with crappie anglers and duck hunters
This boat is made for side pullin. I believed it was designed by gant.
Roger Gant yes, he and his brother were some the first to use this method to win tournaments and catch a lot of big fat slab crappie
Where is the fun at when using heavy rods for a fish less then 12 inches?🤦♂️
these rods are required for this technique. Sorry you don`t understand the concept.
Actually I do, I was just making a point.....it's like fishing for large mouth bass using an offshore rod, takes the fun out of fighting the fish! I'm just saying....
this technique requires the casting set ups- I understand as well, I do like catching them with a ultra light, but sometimes that is not the best course of action.

Some people don't like it. Cause they can't catch fish.
So you are just trolling with the boat sideways?
Is that what we are talking about here?
side its called side pulling
ExtremeAnglerTV been doing it for years doubt anyone can claim it's beginning laughable
sunscreen people
@slab buster RTR ya i never have but prolly good idea due that cancer shit hot af here so we dont go now any way soon tho
gotta love Alabama best fishing, football and great people
Roll Tide
How do you keep the boat pulling straight sideways. I like the setup.
+Royce Burt trolling motor is mounted on the side of the boat- it is a very popular way of control depth trolling for crappie
Neat idea for sure. it just seems that you'd have to work the motor a lot to keep it from spinning around.
not really, it might take a little bit to get used to, but the guys who use this system are pretty good at it
i like it.
Yall tv stars haven some fun cathing them there minnows on tv land.
Round here, them there minnows yall catching is bait we use for 3,4&5 lb hog crappy.
oK then, LOL. I highly doubt you or anyone you knows catches 3, 4 or 5 lb crappie, no sir sorry.
Put the crack pipe down.
