Dr. Tenma not shooting Johan and saving him once again was the ultimate act of love. It’s the perfect ending for me. Calling this show a masterpiece is an understatement!
@@ferds6990 I think you are forgetting the point of Dr. Tenma's character. Dr. Tenma is the character that symbolises the perfect good-will in the world which is in complete contrast to Johan's. To Johan, life is insignificant. One day you are born, some other day you die. The whole point of life and existence is completely oblivious in his judgement. But as a doctor, Tenma visualises life as something worth experiencing. Everyone's life is equal no matter how diverse it feels or looks like from the outside based on your status or whatever. To kill Johan, is basically a way of disproving the point of his character.

I think what's amazing about the show and extremely underrated about Tenma's character is that as much as he regretted making the decision to save Johan's life, he would have regretted watching him die even more.

4:35 his expression while he says "isn't that right" is that of a man who knows his ideals are just falling apart. He is desperate to get shot because he is probably feeling regret; hearing Nina saying she forgives him and then seeing Tenma is unable to kill him, really killed the monster in him. The final nail in the Monster's coffin was Tenma bringing him back again, after that it would be impossible for Johan to keep the same ideals.

I think the vision Tenma saw in the hospital next to Johan, was to show that Johan, wasn't or at least isn't, the/only monster in the show. I don't think Johan was trying to prove or justify his ideals in the very end, but to show Tenma what he had been through. @@jojojo5376

Johans face while pointing the gun at Wim is the most beautifully subtle frame in the entire show. The amount and depth of emotion conveyed is unreal: pleading for forgiveness, utter despair at himself, anger towards still living its amazing

I look at it as Johan failing to take into account a parent's unconditional love for their child, even if the father was excessively alcoholic which makes him act rashly, he still had deep love for Wim, it's the best end to the town massacre and still impresses me how Naoki Urasawa crafted this story to this day.
Johan doesn't care about the lives of others, he killed many with hitmen as if they were unimportant, he even believes his live and Tenma's are more important than any others. At the end, he died by an "unimportant" person and didn't receive what he believed was a greater end to his superior life, proving that all lives are equal as Tenma knew from the start by his own culture as a Doctor. Also, because of the liquor, the man sees Johan as a demon with horns claiming that he is a "Monster", shooting him by fright, giving meaning to the title of the series and discovering the identity of the real monster outside of the books.
Your interpretation is not bad, but Johann is quite right: we are only equal in death. From birth we are unequal; some children are loved by their mother, others are not, some are gifted, others are not, somes are richs, but others are poors, etc ... You suffer injustices barely born, and the life of an "inferior" person, at the eyes of society , will never have the same value as that of an "important" person. Tenma is a utopian, and he is quite right to be, but what he wants is simply not achievable.

What's so special in this scene is that everyone in Ruhenheim use their guns because of Hatred and there is a Drunk guy who shoot Johan out of love and not from hatred
extremely late reply and maybe a bit delusional on my part but i've always thought that it was the start of johan being more desperate. Roberto was dead before he continued the "will never see it" part. So in a way he spared Roberto of that fact.
So tenma didn’t pull the trigger and even safed johan once again , proving his point that every life is equal . He also showed forgiveness after all he did not like his sister who shot him .

Tenma being a morally good person and Johan being a Nihilist who doesn't indulge in Hedonism. People who watch this for the action really don't get the point of the entire show which is why this shouldn't be a movie. It is a realistic masterpiece.

When I first watched this I knew it wasn’t Tenma because he didn’t shoot twice. Something he practiced with his gun instructor was always to shoot twice when planning to kill somebody. Only time he actually shot someone (Roberto) he shot two times

The drunk man’s reaction to seeing Johan and freaking out gives me chills man... if Johan existed in real life (and ngl very high chance a person like him is in this world) I would freak the hell out if I saw a man like that
what i like so much about the seemingly random town drunk being the one to shoot Johan is that he did it to protect his son. the same son he beat, abused and neglected. but when it really came down to it, he did what he had to do. the man was a monster too, but he was a monster who knew how to love. grimmer was right. people don't lose their emotions. as hilariously cliche as it is, johan nearly died because of the power of human compassion...and was brought back to life because of Tenma's compassion, too. in the end, all of his life-means-nothing ideologies blew up in his face. love was real, and there was nothing he could do about it.

After what you wrote It continues with "And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast." This was not included in the first episode, but it's a clear reference to Johan
What is strange that Johan didn't want to commit suicide, but wanted Tenma to kill him instead. It means Johan wanted to live but couldn't find a reason to live for.
That isn't true. He wanted to commit the perfect suicide, like an art. He painted the landscape of the end for tenma and just like his rooftop game, wanted to see if fate would save him. He planned everything so that he gets killed, after getting the revenge and painting the perfect canvas for his suicide : a small city where everyone dies succumbing to their inner fears and monsters. He brought the worst out of the people and then wanted tenma to kill him so it all comes to full circle.

All these makes Johan wanted to die, it's like depression, crying for what he done among those portraits, but unable to stop his reality or turn his life around, and unable to die, cause he doesn't know how to, he tried many times to put his life an end, but he always survive, that's why someone else must do it.

Johan surely believed that people would change their views of others based on those values being compromised. E.G.-- what's the point of having them when we're all equal to an inevitable death? Or, when justice isn't always _just_ . Tenma saved Johan when he thought him to be an innocent child. Now Johan has that power over him. Did it change Tenma? Sure. He faced gaslighting as being responsible for his survival. However, did Tenma become another victim to Johan's manipulation in the end? No. Johan's entire philosophy was wrong. If Tenma had taken him down, Johan's point would be made. The very person that saved his life could also purposely take it away and it would be no different. This is Johan's perspective of life having very little meaning and that anyone can psychologically be broken down to accept this as the truth. Tenma, to the end, refused this concept--denying Johan's ideals. Which was the ultimate slap across his face. The guy that saved his life as a child ended up proving that even Johan's life had consequences and weight to it. His philosophy didn't justify his actions and "leaving no trace of himself behind" was a delusion. Not the perfect death. Johan, finger placed between his brow, tempting fatal action; was obstructed his object of desire. His opposition chose to break the chain and served up a bit of reality instead. Johan wasn't as in control as he had planned. He was shot because of his crimes, nothing more.
In literally fall in love with the series at the start of the Ruhenheim arc: the characters, the lore, the *atmosphere* All is perfect, like a place without a sun, in the middle of nowhere, between Germany and Czechoslovakia. I think the true genius of Naoki Urusawa and Monster is how the story, the ending, the characters, can be interpretted in so many different ways. One thing is for certain though, this is one of the greatest animes ever written, and its SO UNDERRATED
The title is wrong but the reason it's wrong is not the reason people think. Johan Liebert, the nameless monster, doesn't die here. He dies three years later, when Tenma tells him that he has a name. And then, a human being wakes up from the bed and, finally, _lives._
Dr. Tenma saving Johann and not shooting him or letting Wim die was the ultimate defeat for Johann. He wanted to incite the monster within Tenma and make him choose between lives. But Dr. Tenma stuck to his philosophy- all lives are equal to him. A great foil for Johann, who had become so nihilistic due to his experiences as a child. He wanted to be significant, to be the last monster (human) alive but Dr. Tenma didn't fall in place of how he viewed society. So he bet his life in his hands in the course of defeating him psychologically, but failed in the end. Thematically, this was probably the best ending there could be.
I believe Tenma couldn't see it, Johan showed him, allowed him to see it cause Tenma and Johan had a mental bond, just like Nina and Johan. That's why when Tenma visited Johan at hospital, Johan showed him his childhood. It's written in Another Monster.
Because johan is coscensius that him is a monster, He want to die for this. For me him hate himself and his life, hate is mother, hate bonaparta and the human race. I’m surprised that there are ppl who hates the ending. Personally, I liked it...and I like the fact that Dr. Tenma didn’t shoot Johan as this will make him a true murderer and will fall in Johan’s calculation and philosophy that humans are monsters.
Saving one's or other's life is a responsiblity. That's why good soldiers have to kill enemies. But sure, in this scene, the killing may lead to a mental breakdown for Dr Tenma..

i just finished watching this anime for the 2nd time, god damn i am still blown away by how Johan manipulated anyone in to his bidding. While Kira used death note to kill, Johan used a sand box in the park lol i really wonder if Roberto would have remembered Grimmer if they saw each other in some of the episodes.
i just remembered that when they were in kinderheim , grimmer got sick and went to infirmary , and roberto (adolf reinhartt) brought him cocoa. is that how johan made roberto super-loyal to him ? he gave him cocoa ?
The manga did this scene so much better. I don't know why the anime cut out Johan's reactions to Anna arriving and the very big shift in expression when she says she forgives him. Anna realized that forgiveness was the one thing he wanted that night she shot him, despite him also thinking his death was needed. His value depended on her view of him; and what she once robbed from him was now returned - a human being worthy of forgiveness instead of a monster. Johan refuses her forgiveness not because he resents her or thinks its too late for her to redeem herself - but because he doesn’t think he deserves it. Because it is too late, Johan is going to die - he WANTS to die. Then you see the fear and helplessness in his eyes after getting the one thing he always wanted [ anna’s forgiveness] because he desperately wanted to die as the only thing he knew himself to be: the nameless, nonexistence monster. But both anna and Tenma rob him of that by bestowing upon him the gift of compassion, mercy and empathy; for the first time treating him like a human being instead of a monster,god,experiment, devil etc. Johan in his final moments was cracking and finally falling apart. You see it in the final expression he makes: the distraught, confusion and sadness. I want to clarify one thing I noticed: Johan has never shown to take any kind of sick satisfaction from killing unlike all the other serial killers being interviewed in the series. The writer highlights this in the show on purpose. Especially contrasting Johann with Roberto, specifically, when Roberto tries to kill Anna, which another Monster clarifies that he did because he knew she was his only weakness. In another monster it is clearly stated Johan loved his sister more than anything in the world. Which brings me to my next point, the constant mentioning of Hitler in this story...Hitler brainwashed people to commit mass genocide. Under his rule, millions perished in horrific ways. But despite that...Hitler was capable of loving others. Hitler was also loved by others. The terrifying truth about people who commit atrocities...is that they are not monsters or demons or devils... Some people seem to have a problem that Johan was shot by a random dude...and also ended up being alive. But y'all need to understand...if Tenna was the one to shoot him, and he died...then that would mean Johan won, coz that exactly what he wanted. But instead, a random dude shot him, and he still lived, Tenna was proven innocent and now everyone knows about Johan. His whole plan failed...and he lost.

The point of the whole show was to show that Johan never was a villain. there are no monsters, only humans. Johan in this scene is broking apart, and even more after Anna's forgiveness and seeing that Tenma wouldn't bring himself to kill him. All his live views are breaking apart

A walking healthy person who doesnt even care for the sunset just wanted to feel complete and happy, but couldn't. We wish too much what we want and dont cherish what we have. @@leesnow2701 It might be in the bible (the show opened with a quote from the bible) but its definitely in the Qur'an. What the world will look like on the day of judgement. The landscape will be mountains withered away like tufts of cotton, everyone will see the horizon. World will be barren and flat (as shown in that scene). They keep playing with the idea of Johann being a demon or devil (7 headed beast) I think they just leave it to the viewers interpretation. To me Johann is just a messed up kid.
I used to think the drunk showing up to kill Johan was a cop out narratively because if he hadn't, Tenma would have lost that standoff and had no choice but to kill Johan to save the boy, thus fate intervening like that was the only way for Tenma to emerge victorious. Now however I see it more as Johan not losing to Tenma so much as losing to the chaotic nature of life. He planned everything near perfectly, but no matter how well you plan or how brilliant you are, sometimes random shit just happens, like a drunken bum showing up, mistaking Johan for a lovecraftian monster about to kill the kid he himself abuses, and thus blowing Johan's head off as a result.

Realistically speaking, I wonder why no one is talking how why Johan always pointed at his head. What's evil? Aren't we the only ones who make things called 'morals'? What makes us like we are today? One will say our environment and the other will say experiences. What about the brain? Is it any different? "Control the devil or it'll control you." Can you name the devil as our brain? If you can't control your thoughts, what do you think your brain will do? Is Johan evil or are the other people evil, who made him the way he is?
Doctor Tenma is a wonderfully complex character, he keeps saving Johan even despite knowing how much he wants to end it all. But, at the same time , he chose to save Johan as a boy, he had killed another man. (Person in the hospital he was supposed to suddenly operate on) He believes his values keep him from sin but if he had stayed to listen to the director many lives would not have been slayed mercilessly by the ideals of Johan (the boy that Dr. Tenma chose to save instead)
Dr. Tenma proving that all life are equal for not shooting Johan there is truly a magnificent move Johan really wanted to prove that not all life are equal because if he shoots Johan that proves Dr. Tenma value Wim's life more than Johan so that is not equal. Top 1 in my list for sure
It's Biblical references are amazing. At the beginning of the series, it mentioned a Revelation Bible verse about people worshipping the beast. That is exactly how it is in Monster. People were worshipping Johan, such as the extremists, etc
To be honest I'm kinda mad, that Johan was not held accountable for all the killings he did. The children rooftop suicide, the man at the roof drinking to death, the adoptive parents, and a lot more. I do undersyand the premise of the monster and all, but I just wanted him to be held accountable for the victims, instead of him running away at the very end of the anime, or he could have ran after holding to some degree if accountability. There were also plot holes that we never knew why it happeded but regardless, I do still like this anime, a whole lot :D

They think the universe is bad and want revenge. I think John wanted to share what he felt. Such characters interact with someone who understands them. This is not to say that Tenma and Johan do not understand each other. Because they understood each other better than anyone. They paid too much attention to each other and did not pay attention to others. But if you can't save someone who will never change, the last resort is to kill. But bad characters are never cruel to people like him. But at the last moment, John may have changed, but his basic character will not disappear. But he must be smart and know what to do. Hunter x Hunter the most dangerous character, the king of ants, Meruem, gradually becomes a human, but the kind-hearted boy of the Series becomes a monster. So there is always hatred in a world that affects people. It's a world where people affect their people. In the end, this dream is a bad omen. Apparently he went to kill his mother.
Johan learned a true lesson after his so called "death" he was quickly operated by a doctor after 3 years from the show monster, he is still alive and has rebuilt his life. he is no longer that monster
This maniac just escaped death two times, I mean wtf he got another headshot and there's literally no damage to his brain? I've seen people die in this anime after being shot at shoulders or legs.

@@ferds6990 I think you are forgetting the point of Dr. Tenma's character. Dr. Tenma is the character that symbolises the perfect good-will in the world which is in complete contrast to Johan's. To Johan, life is insignificant. One day you are born, some other day you die. The whole point of life and existence is completely oblivious in his judgement. But as a doctor, Tenma visualises life as something worth experiencing. Everyone's life is equal no matter how diverse it feels or looks like from the outside based on your status or whatever. To kill Johan, is basically a way of disproving the point of his character.

He is desperate to get shot because he is probably feeling regret; hearing Nina saying she forgives him and then seeing Tenma is unable to kill him, really killed the monster in him.
The final nail in the Monster's coffin was Tenma bringing him back again, after that it would be impossible for Johan to keep the same ideals.

I look at it as Johan failing to take into account a parent's unconditional love for their child, even if the father was excessively alcoholic which makes him act rashly, he still had deep love for Wim, it's the best end to the town massacre and still impresses me how Naoki Urasawa crafted this story to this day.
Johan doesn't care about the lives of others, he killed many with hitmen as if they were unimportant, he even believes his live and Tenma's are more important than any others. At the end, he died by an "unimportant" person and didn't receive what he believed was a greater end to his superior life, proving that all lives are equal as Tenma knew from the start by his own culture as a Doctor. Also, because of the liquor, the man sees Johan as a demon with horns claiming that he is a "Monster", shooting him by fright, giving meaning to the title of the series and discovering the identity of the real monster outside of the books.

From birth we are unequal; some children are loved by their mother, others are not, some are gifted, others are not, somes are richs, but others are poors, etc ... You suffer injustices barely born, and the life of an "inferior" person, at the eyes of society , will never have the same value as that of an "important" person. Tenma is a utopian, and he is quite right to be, but what he wants is simply not achievable.

what i like so much about the seemingly random town drunk being the one to shoot Johan is that he did it to protect his son. the same son he beat, abused and neglected. but when it really came down to it, he did what he had to do.

That isn't true. He wanted to commit the perfect suicide, like an art. He painted the landscape of the end for tenma and just like his rooftop game, wanted to see if fate would save him. He planned everything so that he gets killed, after getting the revenge and painting the perfect canvas for his suicide : a small city where everyone dies succumbing to their inner fears and monsters. He brought the worst out of the people and then wanted tenma to kill him so it all comes to full circle.

And I believe Johan really wanted to die after known he wasn't send to the Red Rose Mansion. Johan believes he has a memory of his own, something that made him different from his sister. When Nina told him it was her the one who went to the RRM, Johan has nothing, even without him she could have live a normal life, he didn't save her from nothing, he was an unwanted child without a porpuose to be alive or to be born.
All these makes Johan wanted to die, it's like depression, crying for what he done among those portraits, but unable to stop his reality or turn his life around, and unable to die, cause he doesn't know how to, he tried many times to put his life an end, but he always survive, that's why someone else must do it.

Tenma saved Johan when he thought him to be an innocent child. Now Johan has that power over him. Did it change Tenma? Sure. He faced gaslighting as being responsible for his survival. However, did Tenma become another victim to Johan's manipulation in the end? No. Johan's entire philosophy was wrong. If Tenma had taken him down, Johan's point would be made. The very person that saved his life could also purposely take it away and it would be no different. This is Johan's perspective of life having very little meaning and that anyone can psychologically be broken down to accept this as the truth.
Tenma, to the end, refused this concept--denying Johan's ideals. Which was the ultimate slap across his face. The guy that saved his life as a child ended up proving that even Johan's life had consequences and weight to it. His philosophy didn't justify his actions and "leaving no trace of himself behind" was a delusion. Not the perfect death. Johan, finger placed between his brow, tempting fatal action; was obstructed his object of desire. His opposition chose to break the chain and served up a bit of reality instead. Johan wasn't as in control as he had planned. He was shot because of his crimes, nothing more.

I think the true genius of Naoki Urusawa and Monster is how the story, the ending, the characters, can be interpretted in so many different ways. One thing is for certain though, this is one of the greatest animes ever written, and its SO UNDERRATED
This was the only scene I saw johan look so desperate.
The title is wrong but the reason it's wrong is not the reason people think.
Johan Liebert, the nameless monster, doesn't die here. He dies three years later, when Tenma tells him that he has a name. And then, a human being wakes up from the bed and, finally, _lives._
Dr. Tenma saving Johann and not shooting him or letting Wim die was the ultimate defeat for Johann. He wanted to incite the monster within Tenma and make him choose between lives. But Dr. Tenma stuck to his philosophy- all lives are equal to him. A great foil for Johann, who had become so nihilistic due to his experiences as a child. He wanted to be significant, to be the last monster (human) alive but Dr. Tenma didn't fall in place of how he viewed society. So he bet his life in his hands in the course of defeating him psychologically, but failed in the end. Thematically, this was probably the best ending there could be.
So dr temna was able to see the landscape of the end..

I’m surprised that there are ppl who hates the ending. Personally, I liked it...and I like the fact that Dr. Tenma didn’t shoot Johan as this will make him a true murderer and will fall in Johan’s calculation and philosophy that humans are monsters.
Saving one's or other's life is a responsiblity. That's why good soldiers have to kill enemies.
But sure, in this scene, the killing may lead to a mental breakdown for Dr Tenma..

i just finished watching this anime for the 2nd time, god damn i am still blown away by how Johan manipulated anyone in to his bidding.
While Kira used death note to kill, Johan used a sand box in the park lol

The manga did this scene so much better. I don't know why the anime cut out Johan's reactions to Anna arriving and the very big shift in expression when she says she forgives him.
Anna realized that forgiveness was the one thing he wanted that night she shot him, despite him also thinking his death was needed. His value depended on her view of him; and what she once robbed from him was now returned - a human being worthy of forgiveness instead of a monster.
Johan refuses her forgiveness not because he resents her or thinks its too late for her to redeem herself - but because he doesn’t think he deserves it. Because it is too late, Johan is going to die - he WANTS to die. Then you see the fear and helplessness in his eyes after getting the one thing he always wanted [ anna’s forgiveness] because he desperately wanted to die as the only thing he knew himself to be: the nameless, nonexistence monster. But both anna and Tenma rob him of that by bestowing upon him the gift of compassion, mercy and empathy; for the first time treating him like a human being instead of a monster,god,experiment, devil etc.
Johan in his final moments was cracking and finally falling apart. You see it in the final expression he makes: the distraught, confusion and sadness.
I want to clarify one thing I noticed: Johan has never shown to take any kind of sick satisfaction from killing unlike all the other serial killers being interviewed in the series. The writer highlights this in the show on purpose. Especially contrasting Johann with Roberto, specifically, when Roberto tries to kill Anna, which another Monster clarifies that he did because he knew she was his only weakness.
In another monster it is clearly stated Johan loved his sister more than anything in the world.
Which brings me to my next point,
the constant mentioning of Hitler in this story...Hitler brainwashed people to commit mass genocide. Under his rule, millions perished in horrific ways. But despite that...Hitler was capable of loving others. Hitler was also loved by others. The terrifying truth about people who commit atrocities...is that they are not monsters or demons or devils...
They are merely human.

Some people seem to have a problem that Johan was shot by a random dude...and also ended up being alive.
But y'all need to understand...if Tenna was the one to shoot him, and he died...then that would mean Johan won, coz that exactly what he wanted.
But instead, a random dude shot him, and he still lived, Tenna was proven innocent and now everyone knows about Johan. His whole plan failed...and he lost.
Still a huge disappointment to me.
Everything was perfect until this nonsensical ending. Who the hell can survive 2 headshot without being a vegetable? How can someone who commited so much terrible crimes not be under any surveillance? Nonsense

The point of the whole show was to show that Johan never was a villain. there are no monsters, only humans. Johan in this scene is broking apart, and even more after Anna's forgiveness and seeing that Tenma wouldn't bring himself to kill him. All his live views are breaking apart
@@sia5926 Johan IS a villain for sure. While he does have a tragic backstory, he has committed too many crimes to not be considered evil or a villain. That doesn't mean he isn't sympathetic or understandable. But he is definitely evil
No way, Johan was always shown to be an upstanding citizen just think back to the time he gave that poor woman money or the time he helped that kid try and find his mother. A villain would never do something like that

@@leesnow2701 It might be in the bible (the show opened with a quote from the bible) but its definitely in the Qur'an. What the world will look like on the day of judgement. The landscape will be mountains withered away like tufts of cotton, everyone will see the horizon. World will be barren and flat (as shown in that scene). They keep playing with the idea of Johann being a demon or devil (7 headed beast) I think they just leave it to the viewers interpretation. To me Johann is just a messed up kid.

for the people wondering NO he did not die here he was saved yet again by dr tenma and escaped the hospital not as a monster but as a human.
I used to think the drunk showing up to kill Johan was a cop out narratively because if he hadn't, Tenma would have lost that standoff and had no choice but to kill Johan to save the boy, thus fate intervening like that was the only way for Tenma to emerge victorious. Now however I see it more as Johan not losing to Tenma so much as losing to the chaotic nature of life. He planned everything near perfectly, but no matter how well you plan or how brilliant you are, sometimes random shit just happens, like a drunken bum showing up, mistaking Johan for a lovecraftian monster about to kill the kid he himself abuses, and thus blowing Johan's head off as a result.
Also as the comment above you states,everyone is using gun with hatred as motivator while the drunk loser does it out of love to save his child
If the drunk hadn't shown up and Tenma needed to act, Tenma shots didn't have to be deadly to save the boy, he only need to immobilize Johan, just like when he faced Roberto, if that had happened, he would have lost against tenma too
Even Johan was saved 2 times just because of that, coincidence

Realistically speaking, I wonder why no one is talking how why Johan always pointed at his head. What's evil? Aren't we the only ones who make things called 'morals'? What makes us like we are today? One will say our environment and the other will say experiences. What about the brain? Is it any different? "Control the devil or it'll control you." Can you name the devil as our brain? If you can't control your thoughts, what do you think your brain will do? Is Johan evil or are the other people evil, who made him the way he is?

Doctor Tenma is a wonderfully complex character, he keeps saving Johan even despite knowing how much he wants to end it all. But, at the same time , he chose to save Johan as a boy, he had killed another man. (Person in the hospital he was supposed to suddenly operate on) He believes his values keep him from sin but if he had stayed to listen to the director many lives would not have been slayed mercilessly by the ideals of Johan (the boy that Dr. Tenma chose to save instead)
This is the best anime in my past five years and it's ranking 8.9/10 and in my anime list it comes second!

It's Biblical references are amazing. At the beginning of the series, it mentioned a Revelation Bible verse about people worshipping the beast. That is exactly how it is in Monster. People were worshipping Johan, such as the extremists, etc

To be honest I'm kinda mad, that Johan was not held accountable for all the killings he did. The children rooftop suicide, the man at the roof drinking to death, the adoptive parents, and a lot more. I do undersyand the premise of the monster and all, but I just wanted him to be held accountable for the victims, instead of him running away at the very end of the anime, or he could have ran after holding to some degree if accountability. There were also plot holes that we never knew why it happeded but regardless, I do still like this anime, a whole lot :D
@Jason Martinez at least to be thrown in jail for his crimes for the victims to get some level of justice. I do not care what Johan feels through the punishment but to get what he deserved.
The thing is , Johan is a psychopath . He has serious MEDICAL mental illness . He is REALLY crazy . Not the "evil " type crazy , just plain MEDICALLY crazy . He CAN'T feel emotionally or think like REGULAR people .

The same thing happened to me, I like the ending but I would also have liked to see him responsible for his actions, although I suppose that all his philosophical defeat destroyed him enough to cause him real suffering

I’m guessing it’s because johan was pointing a gun at a child with a cold blooded smirk and zero humanity in his face or posture. Complete and total control over his emotions or complete lack of in this case. Also people give off vibes and I’ve personally met some really menacing people.

This scene shows a lot of details with deeper meanings in this show, but Johan Liebert is definitely one of the best anime villains of all time.
Wicked characters want to live like humans and eventually die like humans, even when they have done bad things. They know they have changed, but it's too late. They think the universe is bad and want revenge. I think John wanted to share what he felt. Such characters interact with someone who understands them. This is not to say that Tenma and Johan do not understand each other. Because they understood each other better than anyone. They paid too much attention to each other and did not pay attention to others. But if you can't save someone who will never change, the last resort is to kill. But bad characters are never cruel to people like him. But at the last moment, John may have changed, but his basic character will not disappear. But he must be smart and know what to do. Hunter x Hunter the most dangerous character, the king of ants, Meruem, gradually becomes a human, but the kind-hearted boy of the Series becomes a monster. So there is always hatred in a world that affects people. It's a world where people affect their people. In the end, this dream is a bad omen. Apparently he went to kill his mother.

Johan learned a true lesson after his so called "death" he was quickly operated by a doctor after 3 years from the show monster, he is still alive and has rebuilt his life. he is no longer that monster
