I listened to this every single night for 9 month while going through stage 2 aggressive cancer,,, I always thought if I die while listening to this it can't all be bad, luckily a miracle happened and I'm here now to talk about it... remember it can happen to anyone anywhere so make the most of each day and don't ever forget to tell loved ones how important they are to you. ✌
Stay strong, ive lost many ive known to cancer. Life cannot be taken for granted, but most of us do.
I too have just recently come through such a cancer, and I too discovered this sonic hymn when googling around "ending". Then a Macmillan nurse shared with me a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson - "It is the wounded oyster that mends her shell with pearl."
Thank you for your post. Stay strong. There is always Hope.
Peace and Praises
i’m doing same!!! wish me luck. the tears flow.
I lost my mum just befiore the pandemic struck. Weird getting used her loss.
This piece really is an ascention into Heaven, God bless you and always remember the good times you have 🎈❤⭐
Listening to this whilst remembering the most wonderful, gentle man I have ever known. My father. He died little over a week ago. I miss him beyond words. I am broken. I wish I could have been there when he passed but I wasnt. A part of me has died with him. Rest in peace Dad, we will see each other again. I love you.
I hope you find comfort and peace during this difficult time.
❤️❤️
I am so sorry for your loss. I had a dad like you did. He died 7 years ago and I am crying now thinking of him. It is good to hear music that links you both. My father and I shared a lot of music and after he passed I kept hearing music that I wanted him to hear. I finally realized he was sending it to me. You can continue his life by carrying on. It does get better with time. Talk to him.
@@kategurtowsky you're a beautiful soul. He would be proud ❤️
May God have mercy upon his soul! The dream of every father is to be loved by his kids, he must be very proud!
I grew up thinking this song came out around 1999/2000. Only just now realizing it released in 1983. It's timeless, sounds like it could've come out today.
maybe it helps when i say you that Brian Eno made with U2 a song to gehter ;) its caled "Where the streets have no name" enjoy it. ua-cam.com/video/3FsrPEUt2Dg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=mirabell214
The reason it sounds so good is because it came out using older technology
That would be Brian Eno... Incredible musician that was appreciated by about 5% of those that unknowingly listened to his brilliance...
That's news to me as well. Just before Brian started working with his first album for U2 - the Unforgettable Fire
This just hits so differently when your all alone.
You're here with me now.
But yeah, I feel it too.
I hope you're okay, my friend.
Yeah hope you’re okay now :)
My dad just passed away from cancer. I played this for him at the very end. The title and the music were fitting send off. This piece will always hold a special place in my heart.
❤️
I hope, you are okay
Here for you
I am sorry for your loss ,I will probably do the same as my father is now battling bone marrow cancer.
so sad for you. god bless
This is propably what we'll hear when we leave this world...

Heavenly music. 😇
Some music just transcends you to a different emotional plane....its almost heavenly.
Far better than "heavenly".
We get sad when we hear this, not because it's a sad song.. but because it's just so beautiful. Like how your child can make you cry just because you love them so much. Or when you come home to see someone you love after being away for so long. This song is beauty, and at this level of beauty it's hard to experience anything other than tears.
Thank you so much for this comment. *HuuuuugS*
You are the best translator!
Thank you for mentioning this - I was wondering if someone was cutting onions nearby.
I am often aware of this experience and it always fascinates me how music can impact our souls.
That was a great observation! 🤙
Very well said.
This song broke me in less than a minute, cherish your loved ones people, life is too short.
True words. You're a good person.
It broke me to brother, god bless 🙏
it's so true... è così vero.
So very true we should all learn too appreciate our loved ones and tell them how much they mean to us while they are still here.
"We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity; more than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.”

You are 100% right my friend. Good & bad become more & more relative the older one gets & the more at peace one is.
YES !
Top Gear's segment on the Aston Martin V12 Vantage introduced me to this song and all these years later, has stood out to me as one of the most memorable segments of the show. Just absolutely bursting with emotion and this song has alot to do with it.
As Jeremy Clarkson described the Aston Martin is how I'd describe this song. "Wonderful, wonderful wonderful."
I discovered this by accident through The Gloves Are Off then came across it on Spotify and it set off something in my brain to find out where I heard it before.
Ahhhh that's where I've heard this before
Same here, it’s gotta be the best piece of motor art video to date!
simply the best car enthusiast video to ever be made
Oh when he said it’s a concord moment on the Isle of Man 🇮🇲
Lost my dear mum to Ovarian Cancer in July 2023 at the age of 64, after a rollercoaster 3 year battle.
We used this entrance music at her funeral. There was never going to be a piece of musical art more fitting for the moment.
Simply a masterpiece of our time.
RIP Mum 🌻 #BeMoreAnne xx
I am so sorry for your loss, i send you hugs from Finland ❤️🙏
god bless, rest in peace
That's sad to hear mate. We all are with you in spirit, peace...
God bless brother.
I'm here, 11:51 on December 31st, 2019. This song will bring me, and I assume many others, into the new decade. I wish anyone reading this comment good luck in the future, and I hope this decade is one of your best ones in this short experience known as life.
I unlike your comment just so I could like it again LOL. peace to you, friend, and hope 2020 is treating you well.
😉
2 months in and my decade is already shit. Take ur happy "like me please" comment and shove it.
How completely lovely of you Justin, thank you : )
Justin, I can only offer a belated but very grateful thank you for your kind, inspiring comment. It is a kind thought in a world full of uphill struggles and I appreciate the sentiment. We need it..
This is the last piece of music I played at my wife's funeral. I am struggling to go on without her. I feel as if I died with her and sitting here is just a ghost of who I once was. Sleep soft my precious love, I hope one day to be with you again. I love you.
You should consider watching Ricky Gervais' "After Life" which is a story about a man who had a wonderful, perfect marriage before his wife died of cancer, and how he learned to live again after her passing. It's an absolutely beautiful story, and it's not something you would expect Ricky Gervais to put out.
I'll be honest, if my wife passed, I don't think I would be able to go on. But reading peoples' anecdotes in this comment section or watching stuff like After Life makes me realize that, as soul-crushingly hard as it would be to lose her, it's possible to eventually heal, even if it's one of the hardest things you'll ever have to experience.
Sorry for this spiel, I just had to let some of this out.
@@FSAPOJake Thanks for your comment, never apologise for 'letting out' feelings. I am aware of that Ricky Gervais series and may well check it out, thanks. I am lucky, I have the support of my three brothers, good neighbours and literally hundreds of friends as I belong to a large motorcycle club. They have been incredibly supportive and I have just returned from a four day weekend at the first rally of the 2023 season. It was emotional at times, some friends didn't know my wife Sara had died, so that was hard. But over all it was a fabulous social weekend which really lifted my spirits. Sara loved doing the rallies and events with the club and I am now doing them for her memory as much as for me. She had so many health issues and fought so hard, the few times I have come close to ending it all has made me realise she would be seriously angry with me if I did, after she had fought so hard to live. That keeps me from going too far. The wound will never heal, I know that, but I hope to find new ways to deal with it as the time passes. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
God bless you. I hope that your healing continues, and that you may know peace.
@@muckybobbies I go to car shows and motorcycle rallies myself so I totally get just how valuable of a support network that is.
I wish you luck. And your point of not ending it cause Sara fought hard to live is eye opening and is a really good way to look at the situation.
@@BlackSailPass_GuitarCovers Thank you, I am coping one day at a time, some are harder than others, but some are very kind to me. God bless you too.
"Weeeell ... it's an Aston Martin Vantage ... with a V12 engine ... so what do you think it's gonna be like?"
"It is ... fantastic. It's wonderful, wonderful, wonderful."

"What it makes me feel, though... is sad."

Is it just me ? I always start to cry when I hear this ...
Nothing wrong with that at all.😊
You’re not alone pal 🤗
So do i
So do we, humans...
It stirs up memories. Very few pieces of music do that!
I feel this must be a hymn for the interstellar peace, a peace between all the living beings across the universe. Thanks Brian
Couldn’t articulate that any better. Great comment
Hope you're feeling better now! 🤍✨

Me too, like a baby, and I'm not going to see 60 again! It's a phenomenal piece of music and is a testament to fact that music affects humans in such a deep way.
As the Sun becomes a red dwarf and swallows the Earth, this will be the music for the end credits, as the lights go out! Next level!
Whenever I hear this, I feel the presence of my late parents on my shoulders, telling me they're proud.
I hope they are.
I fell asleep in my garden looking up at the stars and listening to this last night. Best sleep i have had in a long time
Had this experience this year with the LIMBO soundtrack (same caliber of ambient music) back during the comet shower on august 11th-13th. 12-2am, far away from traffic, clear night sky, moon slowly rising behind some pine trees, the wind rustling through the leaves, and loooads of shooting stars. I put the music on and it was an experience I will never forget.
One of the most beautiful, blissful and motivational pieces of music by a huge inspirational musician who means a lot to me. I adore Eno and lots of his music.
He's the only musician I never, ever get tired of listening to, and I've been listening to hims since at least 1980.
@John Osman Spot on!
'motivational' is a very strange and inappropriate word for it. It's pure stillness, there's no motive force.
Blablabla
Piss off
Total agreement, couldn't have put it better myself.
I remember listening to this song at night time walking my dog after smoking weed, I miss you buddy r.i.p
How was it to listen to this high (asf)?
This song was my mom
:(
Try it and find out lol, I would recommend the sativa over the indica when listening to this, more spiritual
I feel that from the bottom of my heart buddy. Chin up eh, be strong xxxx
Crazy how a song with no words can say so much
It's frequently and vibration is what we are.

God bless you brothers and sisters .
And also with you.

An ambient masterpiece... still sounds so fresh and pioneering 36 years after its creation...
It is a recording...so it is always going to sound the same...tomorrow,the next day and as you say 36 years time...
@@dillongstaff5625 he's not talking about that. All music here on UA-cam is recorded obviously...But that doesn't prevent them from being dated.Music gets dated very easily, by melodic patterns, production of the time or even just by the Zeitgeist, but this song seems timeless, That's what he's talking about.
When music can touch your soul.
To me this is the sort of music that makes me feel like I’ve reached the light at the end of the tunnel. Like I’ve finally found peace, tranquility and balance and all that’s left inside me is a sense of euphoria. There are many different ways in which people perceive this piece of music although to me, this is very uplifting
I first heard this song when I was about 10-11 in the movie "Traffic" I'm 31 now and I still love this song. It's the song that created my love for ambient music.
Glad to hear. It's gorgeous. But..song?
Me too
I thought this sounded familiar! Thanks for that fact.
Also, i just watched Beatriz at Dinner, its in the last scene of this film too. 😭
add a few more years of age on top and we had the identical experience. i was aware of ambient music, but this song playing at the end of that film unlocked the door and threw me head first into the genre and eno’s entire discography. still revisit it every once in a great while, and it’s just as beautiful and magical as it was that very first time.
I almost never get tears when i listen to music, but i do when i listen to this. Thanks Brian Eno for creating a masterpiece. A few chords and melody on a lone synthesizer in the 1980's still manages to touch so many people. People 100's of years from now will still be moved by it, I believe. 🌟
This piece is what it must be like for the soul to depart from the body once it has died. Ethereal and cold but also comforting and peaceful.
I hope so. X
Oh dear...it's just a pop song...
There is no soul
There's no such thing as a soul
Shame,if you are dead you'd not be able to hear it.
Jan twenty four and everytime I listen to this music i still think of an ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE ,WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL. A sound that takes you to paradise ✨️. 🙏❤️🙏🏴🇬🇧🏴 thank you TOP GEAR 😢😢
I think that's Top Gear's greatest clip
@@boi4367couldn't agree more, what a fitting tribute to a great show, how can one not shead a tear after all this time 😢🏴🏴👍😎👍
This is the saddest song of all time. There is nothing more sadder than this. It is truly one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever. We are living on a ball of dust in the vacuum of infinity. What is going on? This song never ever fails to make me cry. Let us all be good to each other. And let us be good to ourselves animals the earth. Let's cherish our loved ones and live with kindness. If we make mistakes apologise life is too short. Be gentle. Be loving. And realise how lucky we are. Ricj or poor lets help others. Let's not waste time. Lets not waste life. God bless you all xxxxxx
Beautiful words my friend, you described perfectly how a good and Happy live is.. I bless you

My dad who was 87 passed away 3 weeks ago, my dad suffered for a month I spent his last day with him for hours he was not responsive however I talked to him for hours played him his fave songs and now he will forever be in a special place in my heart. Thanks thanks Brian Eno for this incredible song it helps me immensely on a very personal level
😔 May your dad rest in peace. My thoughts are with you and your loved ones
💖
So very sorry for your loss. My dad was 85 when he passed on November 15, 2020 after a weeklong battle with COVID; he was unable to talk at the end, but as an ICU nurse held the phone to his ear I told him through tears how much I loved him, and how proud I was of all he’d accomplished. My brother, whom he lived with the last few years of his life, initially had him cremated, and later interred alongside our mother after giving him a proper military sendoff. We love and miss him terribly.
@@fever_spike So sorry for your loss
I read somewhere that Eno's music is being used to calm people with anger and anxiety type disorders . I find much of his music is very stimulating and so futuristic.
So true! He made Music for Airports for people who were terrified of flying too!
If this does not touch your soul nothing in the world will.
To hear Daniel Lanois and Brian talk about this song is mesmerizing. Lanois calls it a "hymn" and says it evokes in us the "deep yearn" for things unspeakable. Brian talks about how he mechanically the song wasn't working and he decided to run it backwards. He mentions how if you create a piece of music and don't give any preconceived ideas to it that people will creatively take it to places unheard of. "An Ending Ascent" has always been biblical for me and takes me to the beatific vision.
It’s so weird how you can feel happy and sad at the same time. I feel happy and grateful for all the memories I have when thinking about my lost loved ones but at the same time I hurt because they are not around anymore and I miss them. Feeling joy and grief at the same time is like the ultimate pain, but a beautiful pain.
YES. Exactly what you said!!!!
I first heard this song in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage top gear review, Ill say this, Jeremy Clarkson really knows how to make a car review turn emotional, so in his words, I describe this song as “Fantastic, it’s wonderful, wonderful, wonderful”
Saying this car is an ending because of the pollution, safety etc... With the roaring of the engine, the landscapes, it was really emotional
Brian Eno is one of the greatest artists in human history, nothing more to say.
I agree with you one hundred percent.
With zillions on tribions guys...
First time i've heard of him
yes you are right. I first listened to Eno around 1977, and it changed my life.(yes for the good)
No discernible beginning, no discernible end. So vast and spacious. So beautiful in its simplicity. That's the universe. That's consciousness. That's this song. Incredible to have been created by a mere human being.
The most peaceful place on earth right now is here.
So surprised to hear this beautiful piece of music at former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari's funeral. Great choice for a man who won The Nobel Peace Prize in 2008.
Grazie from Italy, this music give me the strength to go head, to believe in the humanity. We can do beautiful things when we think as Earthlings, and not as calculators.
Stop this talk about humanity and the "one human race". We will always be divided by race
Bellissima colonna sonora messa anche traffic bellissimo film
You listen to eno and pink floyd, nice.
I had this played at my mother's funeral a couple of years ago. Just this filling the church and the song of her beloved birds outside. This is all about being at peace and saying goodbye.
its the most beautiful piece of music ive ever heard.
28 days later soundtrack, so fitting for this vod. I can listen to this for hours, it calms me, it makes me reflect on things i have done in life, and what i need to do in order to make things better...
fuck, I knew this track was from that movie, took me a while to scroll down this far for confirmation! lol.
Ahhhh so that’s where I heard it from 😂 I thought it was Top Gear. But I knew I heard it from somewhere before, and that movie was it!
A friend of mine turned me on to Brian Eno in high school and have been listening ever since in 1990 , his music really makes you reflect on life. His song Drift is another great piece like this one.
This is song of memory and also a dream of seeing all of those who have left us, but in a brief moment you are with them again, embracing, laughing, and crying. Until we meet them again, someday.
I feel nostalgic about a life I never had
If the Earth was music, if Space was sound, if humanity was a symphony then they would be this pure, delicate, captivating and powerful ode at the same time.

I brought a number of CDs to the hospital he night my daughter was born twenty years ago. But right from the start, it was 3 AM, I played only the two ambient ones I had, Eno's "Apollo" and Budd's "The White Arcades" . When "An Ending" came on, I turned up the volume and let the music flow through the whole L&D that night. No one said anything except a nurse who popped in, wanting to know what the name of the most beautiful music was.
Imagine making something this beautiful, this melody will forever be legendary.

This (along with Weightless from the same album) are two of the most healing songs I know, yet I cannot help but feel a twinge of sadness at these visuals. This is the only home we have, and we are not treating her and our fellow humans as well as we could be. Be excellent to each other.
By This River from his album Before And After Science is also amazing and differs a bit with a few lyrics
.... humankind the worst of all ...PREDATORS .... Charles Darwin was so mistaken ... we have not evolved ...
it is indeed an absolute shame humans use their sapience for sinful acts of evil rather than caring ones of good. may we live long and die out.
Ever since I heard this at art school in 1983 I always wanted to ask Brian Eno if he ever wished he could go to space. Even for a moment.
Heartbreakingly beautiful... Pulls on every single emotion like a harp
Beautiful beyond words. I flew back from China over the Gobi Desert some years ago and by a fluke of timing we had perpetual sunset for hours. The view down from the plane was unimaginably beautiful and moving. I think about it often, and somehow these views of the Earth from space remind me of it. The music itself has been a favourite of mine since buying the original vinyl album way back when it was first released (still got it!).
Headphones on, eyes closed, volume turned up and relax...and leave this broken planet for a few moments to ascend to the steps of heaven.
I come back in here quite often. This is my escape from reality! ❤️

The ending of Traffic is a Thousand times better because of Eno's masterpiece!
I fully agree with you there.
I associate this song with 28 days later
It was in For All Mankind first I believe. Plus a lot of other Eno music!
Its brilliantly used in Traffic in fact the whole score in the film.

This wonderful song makes me want to hug our beautiful Earth, the only home we mortals have. Let's try take better care of it, the creatures and each other. Blessings Mr.Eno and whomever reads this in 2021 : )
This will be my funeral song. Everyone is invited to come. Such a beautiful song. So mellow..
Eno some how captures the moment a soul passes to wherever souls go. My Mam died in my arms recently and I believe it was a privalage to be there for her. Some how this music feels right, capturing that timeless passing sensation. Eno has always given us heavenly magic.
This is a beautiful piece of work Brian.
Thank you
There's no other words other than this an absolutely beautiful piece of music
Everytime I hear this song, I meditate and am able to visualize seeing visiting certain loved ones in heaven and it feels so lucid. I come away each time with a different experience, and find it helps with my grief. Thank you for that gift of your music and this song that helps me. 😇💞
A music that has made me feel sad. 2 years ago, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. Her mom(grandmother) visited me in a dream. Telling me mom's condition was just unfortunate and god will always forgive me despite regrets I've made. She made me promise along with mom to stay strong no matter what and I will never break it. Grandma then saved me from a war with depression. The next day, I helped mom's beloved soul home to heaven and be reunited with grandma. Despite her physical body no longer responsive, in heaven she said for final words "I love you Thomas". Both in heaven and the physical world i teared and respond saying "I love you too mommy". Before I came back to the physical world, I saw God's face and he was smiling at me impressed of what I done and said "You did a brave thing my son, your mom is home now. Your time has not come yet though. Until the day comes, return to the physical world". Mom's body went peaceful later that night. I did what i felt was the right thing. I miss her so much. Rest in peace Mom. I will see you again. 😭
My mom is also with cancer and I don't know what will happen but I truly believe what you've shared. I've had some sort of experience, much nicer and not related to any sort of death.
My Condolences, My Friend...
The most perfect piece of music ever written, in my estimation. It really captures all the harmonies of the stars. You can actually take this piece of music apart and play it at different tempos and find a whole new song embedded in it. Eno was listening to angels sing when he put this down for us.
Thank you Brian Eno for this masterpiece!
I agree with you. However, I find that "Subterraneans" ... the last track from David Bowie's "Low" album, composed by Bowie and Eno is on the same level and aura. Awesome work.
Life is an amazing journey, cherish every second
It’s music like this that’s just so beautiful that it physically hurts.
This is a Truly MASTERPIECE
"I just have this horrible, dreadful feeling that what I'm driving here, is 'an ending' ".

I have searched for this music - I first heard it played when the 7 astronauts were lost...I went along thinking it was a John Cage piece. So glad I've found it. Achingly beautiful, it makes me cry
When I play Forza Horizon 4, when it's the winter season, I like to play this when I'm near the festival site and my radio is off and I'm quietly looking across Scotland. When I do this, I always say in my head "just peaceful and quiet" when I'm done, I simply drive away at a slow pace home.
(Dave here) I lost my mom this past January. I was by her side. The heartache is tremendous. But I think about happy times and laughter with her and the pain lessens, especially with this piece by Brian Eno . It is, sincerely, peaceful and calms my breathing .
I can’t listen to it without tearing up... always a wuss at heart I guess. The sheer humanity of the tune speaks volumes. I’ve said enough... I’m so lucky to have been on this mortal coil when Eno (and Fripp) were making music...

Touching melody on all levels...I am in tears listening and watching and asking why my fellow South Africans are looting & burning our bellowed country of South Africa. Fear, chaos, destruction and no fear of repercussions. When you look down from space you really see how insignificant worldly issues are in the contrast of cosmos.
