More about Gianmarco:
Gianmarco Soresi is a stand-up comedian, actor, and a little too much for some people. He’s told jokes on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Comedy Central, Netflix’s Bonding, Don’t Tell, The Real Housewives of New York for some reason, and he was a JFL New Face in 2022. He’s acted in Billy Crystal’s Here Today, Hustlers, The Last OG, and in his theater days shared the stage with some people who’ve gone on to become huge real estate agents. You can see him post the kind of crowdwork clips that are arguably destroying the artform of stand-up comedy everywhere @gianmarcosoresi and he obviously has a podcast called The Downside with Gianmarco Soresi.🎤

Thanks for watching/listening/complaining!
Love everything you do. If i was on spotify, i'd subscribe. All hail the algorithm ❤❤❤❤❤
gasped out loud hearing sean’s description of his compulsions, this whole conversation about OCD was so validating and relieving, no one ever talks about the guilt - years into recovery now, there are dozens of years-long tics i stopped in therapy or do automatically now
I'm finding myself pushed to a lot of echolalia, whistling often and singing along to everything. Vocal tics too
i am so relieved to hear about OCD talked about in a real and raw way. i saw a therapist the first time bc certain sounds caused intrusive thoughts of harm. as i’ve gotten older they’ve gotten grosser but less common. you really do just have to accept the thought and keep going. in HS i didn’t do that and felt like i was delusional and that i was “hallucinating a normal life while doing horrific crimes”. i was sitting in math class.
OCD will have you do the most insane mental gymnastics and yet it feels so hard not to believe them
@@crinyx3388 yeah. being a decade out from the start of my treatment now, i really find a lot of the ocd thoughts almost funny. like, okay brain why did you show me that? wacko. it’s easier if you separate “you” and “your brain” because in reality, the part of your brain that has OCD is specifically NOT you
@@Carebearritual easier said than done… especially with certain subtypes it can be so challenging.. I am a person that always thinks things through and use logic and analytical thinking to solve my problems, so obsessions are tough to fight, since the only way I know to solve issues is “figuring it out” aka the opposite of what I should be doing in ocd 🥺
@ yeah you just gotta accept that the thought is there. no solving. just ok brain thank uou
@@crinyx3388 for me it's like...I DON'T believe the mental gymnastics for a second, I know I'm basically just bullshitting myself, and still I HAVE to do the thing. It's excruciating sometimes
I’m a geotechnical engineer who studied hurricane katrina. The problem with the levees in New Orleans started in the design phase. The army corps of engineers did not follow their own specifications when designing the levees and ignored “outliers” in their soil data. Once the hurricane hit that did begin diverting water from “important areas” to minority and lower income communities but ultimately the levees failed bc of bad design and overlooking soil data. and that bad design and ignoring specifications for the levees in lower income areas is corrupt in it of itself
Name every rock.

A lot of us there knew that beforehand too. Maybe not to the degree that you did, but there was knowledge mixed with deep cynicism about what was told to us. I'm 40, and for my _entire life_ I heard "All it's going to take is one bad storm, and we're gone."
I lost everything in the hurricane I was in NOLA at the time and that's where the minimal, important things went. My journals, birth certificates etc, family photos. I was being represented by a gallery who hadn't stored my work properly, lost all of that too (that was a ton of work gone and a ton of money I will never make, insurance covered practically nothing for me).
Friends & I evacuated to my Mom's house in Alabama, then her house lost the roof & everything was destroyed. My Dad's & sister's places in Alabama all flooded badly too. I know people who died needing medical care, one who died evacuating when he had an asthma attack. I know someone who was shot & left to die in the dirty water. I saw things that still give me nightmares, and probably always will. I didn't think about it for years, just shoved it down & woke up screaming & sobbing a lot. I've gotten help. But I don't think I will ever get past it.
New Orleans isn't the same for me now. I've been back a few times. I have friends who are working hard at bringing it back, but that's not where I am now and I don't want to go back even though it was my first & deepest home. I feel the same way about Baltimore now (though I also don't live there anymore), and I'm still enjoying exploring the DMV area.
Oh, past you looks like he still has hope.
Usually us with OCD know that our ticks are ridiculous and or not going to “save us” but we have this NEED to do it regardless. If you don’t do your ritual or thing it will eat you all night or day and give you anxiety attacks, you’ll get paranoid , etc. As an adult now I’m able to stop myself from wanting or needing to do random things but that doesn’t stop the thoughts from coming and me needing to remind myself this is all in my head. It’s a very lonely and scary disorder. You are in constant mental survival mode and no one around you might even know what you’re thinking or going through. My faith and prayers honestly is what has helped me through the years.
Oh wow... I've never ever felt this seen, hearing someone with OCD speaking about OCD and how OCD truly is. I could relate to everything Sean said 100%. The age OCD started to fully raise its head, for me too the same age, around 14/15. I also had day long panic attacks before I got medication. Was really cathartic to hear his OCD story.
Yes I love thst its getting more common to talk casually but also accurately about mental health stuff. Alot of times the medical descriptions are so formal it doesnt resonate as much as hearing another person living it day to day
The intrusive thoughts while driving are some of the scariest. Not that they aren’t all scary but being in the car feels so vulnerable.
I came here from the reddit clip and loved every minute. Y’all touched on a ton of interesting topics and it was nice to get that info and perspectives from an organic conversation. Will definitely be watching more of these. I appreciate more conversations about ocd and what it really is popping up lately. It’s sth that has been misdiagnosed and misunderstood and it makes it difficult to talk about, so yeah it’s soothing somehow to see this talked about on an authentic level. Anyway i am blabbing
dude so real!! i only learned and got my license this year but i so often have very graphic intrusive thoughts while driving and it can be so hard to manage
loooove people saying theo von isn't political or biased as if he didnt get shouted out at trumps victory rally 😭
i love having at least 2 or 3 comedians who arent democrat establishment bootlickers
Those 2 or 3 just lick a different pair of boots 🤷♀️what's makes them slightly worsein my book it's the way they so vehemently deny having any allegiance. @gillsejusbates6938
Sean was a fantastic guest. Very real, very authentic, very clearly has a worldview. Great discussion.
18:00 - what gianmarco is missing here is that mainstream journalism has been so untrustworthy that comedians now seem like journalists
His description of OCD Is one of the most accurate I’ve ever heard and like mine. The only difference was my biggest intrusive thought was slicing my Mas bewbs off. I’m sure Freud would have a field day with all our boobie intrusive thoughts. I think it’s just because a mother is often a present figure.
I cope mostly well these days now I’m older, though losing my Ma earlier this year has sent my anxiety to the stratosphere.
Sorry for your loss ❤
As a gay man, can confirm I would get Sean a sandwich
As someone who’s lived with ocd for a good portion of my life since i was a kid, without knowing it. It’s really refreshing and safe to hear it be talked about. Especially the taboo topics also, it’s something nobody wants to mention because of how taboo it is but it feels really reassuring to hear someone who’s actually got ocd acknowledging it.
1:07:18 this helped me so much 😢 thank you, I'm terribly mentally ill so this will help with my many upcoming appointments
Same here.
Came for the OCD discussion I saw in a short clip cause it’s such an important conversation and perspective
23:42 FYI, the mayor of New Orleans is LaToya Cantrell, not LaToya Jackson 😅.
Came to say this lol
LaToya Jackson would be so fucking funny as mayor of anywhere though lmfao
LMAOOO I was so confused cause I was like, Michael's LaToya Jackson???? I went to look her up to see if I missed something to find out she has absolutely nothing to do with New Orleans. But yeah it's LaToya Cantrell.
shit had me busting out laughing
Standup often reflects society, so as society becomes more ideologically divided standup ends up more polarised. I think Sean is being far too kind to his comedian friends like Theo Vaugn. The guy is a conservative, not a journalist.
shane gillis, theo von and comedians in that genre love to pretend they’re neutral but love pander to the right
DO they pretend to be neutral? I think the only people who say Theo is neutral are conservatives and probably centrists (for obvious reasons)
Like he said, they gotta get paid. And unfortunately they are a group that need kid gloves and catering to because as much as they don’t want to admit it, they are in some ways much bigger babies than the left.
@@tiatia8236I think they do at first. But once they start pallin around with Rogan, they realize how huge that audience is and the mask comes off.
If anyone is interested in more about Hurricane Katrina and the state and federal government's failure in responding to it, I highly recommend the documentary When the Levees Broke: A Requirm in Four Acts by Spike Lee. It will leave you with a greater appreciation for the resilient people of New Oreleans and an intense anger toward the powers at be who turned their back and let Americans die.
3:41 PETITION FOR RUSSELL TO HAVE HIS OWN UA-cam CHANNEL 💖 I WOULD EAT. IT. UPPP.
17:40 Giving a fascist any platform is bad, actually. I agree with giving space for debate in some topics, but you don't give platform to the best left leaning politician of this country that has worked tirelessly for decades for the working class and the next week let a fascist say insane things on your podcast without pushing back and acting like you're just a dumbass that can't do anything about it (while repeating his lies later on, of course).
Theo Von has shown his true colors and it's disappointing because I thought he was a genuinely funny dude.
He is genuinely funny. He’s genuinely hilarious. He’s also just genuinely an oaf.
Like he’s not PRETENDING to be funny. No one is writing his jokes for him. He’s genuinely funny.
He’s just not that good a person.
Not knowing KSI in this context was a microagression 😭
Against oi bruvs
I’m actually listening to this in Eau Claire Wisconsin. Not going to lie if you guys had a show here I would go.
Jan 9th he’s in EC
that Louisiana embassy jab at 20:36 was perfect
I also have such intense intrusive thoughts and compulsions, but in my case they are much more self-focused - which is good for everyone else i guess 😅
Sigh, going to have to watch episode 7 of the English Teacher for the fifth time tonight.
I have diagnosed OCD and the show Pure is a great example of actual OCD. Loved this conversation!
Didn't know the hot guy ftom the English Teacher was a comedian 😍🤤
It took me years to get my OCD diagnosed, and hearing someone talk about it like this is so fucking cathartic.
I've been a fan of BJA for almost a decade. God his earlier UA-cam work is just as incredible. English teacher maybe has more jokes packed into it, but I highly recommend going through his older stuff.
Usually i am slow at watching these (the curs'ed watch later list must grow ever more) but seeing Sean Patton moved this one up to the front of the line. Love his comedy and especially those longer stories. Was also great to hear his perspective on growing up with OCD! Dude's been through a lot for sure and I'm glad he's been getting more recognition. ❤ As for cities, I once again will invite ya to come on up to Minnesota! Honestly you could do a show in Eau Claire and either way I'd make the drive lol. Gotta love being close to the wisconnie border.
oh wow i was just watching some of sean’s older standup vids the other day. thanks for having him!!
came here from the clip talking about ocd, feels really good to listen to people talk about their own real experiences
lol I love the “comedians should stay out of politics” segment followed by you getting mad at people that tell you to do that 😂
As LA native, and someone with these same thoughts and passion for Louisiana/New Orleans I'm glad someone with a platform is really saying it. So true
❤❤❤ Gianmarco's blessing is so sweet
I never watch your actual podcast. You two and sean patton is too good to pass up!!
I had no idea he has OCD, great perspective to hear.
Thank you for mentioning Asheville. This is my hometown and we are terrified of what’s next in terms of gentrification and people moving on to the next big disaster. Also Gianmarco please do a show here!!! You would be well received 😂❤
thank you Sean for telling Gianmarco to come to Minneapolis! 🙏🏻 bless him
Finished! Great ep!
I LOVE the depth and knowledge, constantly...
Naomi Klein the shock doctrine, a good book on how capital exploits disasters.
I didn't know him before but I am so entertained - the call backs 😁🔥
not all heros wear capes, some microwave nothing for 33 seconds.
admittedly watched this because sean is so cute, lol. good show!
Man I love Sean Patton.
9:06 - russell should have told us about these spicy texts a long time ago!
If Rus gets poorly from eating that lunchable for the pod, does he get compensated 😹❤️ Well find out next week if he makes it. Fair sails friend.
I love Just Shoot Me too. I rewatches it last winter and had a blast. Also god this made me realize why i distanced myself from my younger siblings once i hit puberty. Bc of thos intrusive thoughts
I think comics should have the right to say shit in their comedy - but I also think that there is a kind of codex of comedy within which you have to move as a comedian to have this rule applied to you. Things like Gianmarco pointed out: At a rally vs. at a comedy club is a big difference. Or whether or not sth is actually sat up like a joke conceptually/ form wise.
This might be your best timing of “this is the downside”😂😂
P.S. - Come to Houston
Thanks for looking out for us and asking about the shirtless ep 🙏
0:10 off topic but I love the singing in the rain shirt
Good Lord I've thumbed up and down i don't know how many times during this. I don't even know how to feel but I'll be watching again.
Came here because I saw the clip of the OCD part and at least the microwave radiation had some logic in it. My OCD is sometimes just count to 4, 4 times and my brain thinks it’s protecting people I love. Sometimes I just say my prayer, say it 4 times and then it spiraled into everything is in 4s. But when I’m around strangers or not close friends I absolutely try and hide it.
Sean was so good on English Teacher! a funny and beautiful man
Gianmarco in Madison? Yes please!!
Once again.... thankful for this pod. Another fucking episode that is hilarious. ❤
yo ho ho, it's so easy to find series and francises (in english at least) on the seas
how did Russell and Tim dillon being in the same place not break the space-time continuum???
Okay yeah this was a great episode
I don't know, i honestly believe most of this bigger celebrities/comedians follow trump because he is one of them. He is a celebrity and they just stick to there tribe, call me crazy it just feels right in my little weird heart.
Is the opposite camera in the skull eyes?
I think it is 💀
That's smart.
Please come to Minnesota! I hope you can get to Acme that would be so awesome!!!
23:29 Louisiana has the best politicians that money can buy
I can imagine the wild dms Sean is getting. He is a Class A daddy bear. And some people are going to love the belching as well. I love that Russel is getting sweet dms. He does always give wholesome, husband vibes.
Please come back to Wisconsin! Would love to see you in Appleton or Madison or Eu Claire.
Madison gang
KSI owns Prime with Logan Paul! 1:30
Would be great to see drew michael with you guys at some point! I recently was just wondering if he was on and saw that he hasn't yet.
THEO VON IS NOT A JOURNALIST
We demand a mukbang!
1:28:27 That's why plex and jellyfin exist
42:03 engraved hollow point?!
Omg its the guy from the English Teacher
Am I losing it, or is this a repost? 🤔 I feel like I heard parts of this conversation already...
Guy on the left is Walmart Tim Dillon
1:32:26 that’s not true. objectively not true. not everyone is on the spectrum what
These aren't my views but just how I interpreted what he meant by that. I agree that if you don't have any qualities of being autistic, then you're not on the spectrum.
I think he meant that by first thinking of the spectrum as a range that includes not having characteristics of autism. So the farther you are from, say, the origin, the more intense or pronounced the set of characteristics you have that you're moving towards from the origin. Since where someone would fall on a spectrum is in relation to not being autistic, it would imply that not being autistic is fundamentally on the spectrum. But someone not autistic wouldn't actually or accurately say they're on the spectrum and autistic.
@@Djinneratorwhat do you think a spectrum is?
And what do you think is meant by autism spectrum?
I understood it to mean that OCD is a spectrum not that everyone is on the spectrum of ocd
@@MsNatiBug What do you think a spectrum is? Everything isn't on a spectrum. A rainbow is a spectrum of visible light from white light yet there's no pink or brown in it. Similarly, not having autism or ocd means you're not on the spectrum. I can't believe that needed to be explained.
6:12 you should go to Buffalo
53:05 rich guy, but he does ONE party for THREE different events. Sounds cheap to me
Russell has royal tastes I bet it was fire :-);
In this day and age everything is politics depending on who… so honestly f it the worlds in a dumpster fire and so much is happening, do what you want unc’s
I'm sorry, I'll start watching when the episodes are happening post election
Guys, be serious. The first time it's a mistake, the second time it's bad choices and a possible pattern of behaviour.
Is this podcast just two gay dudes talking about stuff?
Three gay dudes this episode 😂
Easy downvote
How ironic
Don’t ya think
24:44
@ exactly!
no thank you
