Id argue all the censoring takes away from naruto as a whole, especially early on. It diminishes how brutal the world is and how serious some of the moments are.
In the manga, when Tsunade gets back up to fight Kabuto (after he thinks he's incapacitated her), he actually theorizes that his chakra scalpel didn't pierce far enough because of her large breasts. For censorship reasons, in the anime, this scene is replaced entirely with Kabuto attributing her ability to get back up to her will power or fighting prowess.

I keep on saying this again and again: censorship GREATLY dimishes quality in works of fiction regarding war. Blood, gore and sizeable or gaping wounds are tremendously helpful to properly reflect the danger of death, which transmits dramatism like nothing else. If you colour that wound, conceal it or just erase it the whole thing can feel bland, uninteresting or simply fake, non-believable and forgettable. This is even more obvious in comicbooks where one vignette can be crucial for the whole chapter.

That arc was so cool but I have sad feelings looking back at it in retrospect. When that arc was airing on toonami me, my dad and my brother were waiting all week in anticipation for what would happen next. Then when it was over there were like 200 episodes of (bad) filler or something and the show moved to another network with Shippuden. And actually I read the manga first as my middle school library had most the volumes till Shippuden. One parent complained, but a bunch of students telling em to shut up managed to save our manga. The same couldn’t be said for the “I Love Boobies” wrist bands everyone at the time was wearing though. All said it was to support breast cancer awareness but staff were not having it.

Ngl, a lot of the early ones besides Gato's beheading seems to be more so a perception thing, rather than it actually being more brutal in the manga. You get to look at a panel versus moment to moment actions, which gives you more time to take in the scene.
Strange that most of these appear in season 1, which is supposed to be more child-friendly as Naruto is 12 at that time and it helps to connect with him. But then Shippuden has weapons of mass destruction and the brutality is not present.

Be careful about the black outlines, the states manga releases are also censored. I noticed this first when Naruto and Konohamaru perform that jutsu it is a just black outlines but in the Japanese release it actually shows what is happening
Rather important video for anime exclusive viewers. Though most of the changes are that big of a deal, just some more blood here and there, some changes actually affect the story. For example I'd say that the Danzo one isn't that bad but most early Naruto changes actually make being a ninja feel like a sport more than brutal war.

Kakashi’s arm impaling Haku all the way thru SHOOK 12 year old me when I first read it. Especially since it happens directly after establishing the tragedy of Haku’s life and how gentle he was. Not to mention Haku being only 15, which is an actual little kid.🥺Idk, that particular instance of manga brutality has always stuck with me even 20 years later.
I love how many people don't understand you cannot show how on cable TV. MOST of the time they don't have a choice to censor things and the rest they censor beforehand knowing they will be told to anyways. There is much more freedom in the manga.

Another detail in no. 30 is Guy’s condition. In the anime, his foot was disintegrating, but in the manga, all of his flesh was peeling apart like a boiled onion on top of that. As for the anime’s shot of Madara, the destroyed wood around him looks charred, so the lack of red blood around and coming out of Madara makes a bit of sense. I imagine his wounds were cauterized by the sheer thermonuclear-grade force of Guy’s kick.
Yeah I always admire the art style of the Naruto manga and liked the manga better than the show. But the anime still has good moments like the first fight between Sasuke and Naruto was edited and draw out perfectly.
Honestly, I appreciate this degree of censorship a lot. The amount of gratuitous gore in the manga has always put me off, to the point where I simply dropped it and stuck with anime only. There's really nothing added by it, and in return nothing except cheap shock factor is lost by this stuff getting toned down. I don't need to see a bunch of corpses hanging on the wall in Orochimaru's lab to know how f'd up the man is. It's been plenty shown in other ways. One edited scene won't change that impression. I don't need to see blood splattering everywhere and guts flying through the air to know someone was just put in the ground by a brutal jutsu. The gore in Naruto really never added any special value to the story or the characters themselves. It can easily do with less of it and still tell a great tale.

It’s a huge shame how much the anime was censored. I really wish they just went for TV 14 even M. I’m so tired of these shows going out of their way to make it for kids or just censor things for no reason. Just be accurate to the source material. Give us what we want. It’s just so annoying. And censoring this violence is just bs it does change how impactful scenes are too.
I think some of these are not so much to censor, but just creative decisions. For example with Zabuza cutting the guys head off, it doesn't really make sense that he could do that with a kunai, it's probably not even long enough to get through the width of the guys neck, the stabbing motion and then the fall from the bridge is a fairly good take on the scene I think. And stuff like the blackout-style for the genjutsu of Sasuke and Sakura getting kunai in the head just makes it more obvious what's actually going on in an animation where the viewer can't do a double take back and fourth like they would with a manga, it's to make it clearer that it's not actually reality to the viewer.

Standard chakra representation in the manga is yellow, not blue. This is why the rasengan is yellow.
Kin Tsuchi's defeat in the chunin exams was also more serious as she hit her head in the wall way harder, almost breaking her neck.

He has some type of skin and muscle regeneration so he's not injured while ripping out his bones.

Ngl, a lot of the early ones besides Gato's beheading seems to be more so a perception thing, rather than it actually being more brutal in the manga. You get to look at a panel versus moment to moment actions, which gives you more time to take in the scene.

Strange that most of these appear in season 1, which is supposed to be more child-friendly as Naruto is 12 at that time and it helps to connect with him. But then Shippuden has weapons of mass destruction and the brutality is not present.
Og naruto to me always felt darker. The vibe was more mysterious, tgw artstyle was more mature. The fight scenes were more grounded too

Be careful about the black outlines, the states manga releases are also censored. I noticed this first when Naruto and Konohamaru perform that jutsu it is a just black outlines but in the Japanese release it actually shows what is happening

Rather important video for anime exclusive viewers. Though most of the changes are that big of a deal, just some more blood here and there, some changes actually affect the story. For example I'd say that the Danzo one isn't that bad but most early Naruto changes actually make being a ninja feel like a sport more than brutal war.

Kakashi’s arm impaling Haku all the way thru SHOOK 12 year old me when I first read it. Especially since it happens directly after establishing the tragedy of Haku’s life and how gentle he was. Not to mention Haku being only 15, which is an actual little kid.🥺Idk, that particular instance of manga brutality has always stuck with me even 20 years later.
I love how many people don't understand you cannot show how on cable TV. MOST of the time they don't have a choice to censor things and the rest they censor beforehand knowing they will be told to anyways. There is much more freedom in the manga.

Another detail in no. 30 is Guy’s condition. In the anime, his foot was disintegrating, but in the manga, all of his flesh was peeling apart like a boiled onion on top of that.
As for the anime’s shot of Madara, the destroyed wood around him looks charred, so the lack of red blood around and coming out of Madara makes a bit of sense. I imagine his wounds were cauterized by the sheer thermonuclear-grade force of Guy’s kick.

Yeah I always admire the art style of the Naruto manga and liked the manga better than the show. But the anime still has good moments like the first fight between Sasuke and Naruto was edited and draw out perfectly.

Honestly, I appreciate this degree of censorship a lot. The amount of gratuitous gore in the manga has always put me off, to the point where I simply dropped it and stuck with anime only. There's really nothing added by it, and in return nothing except cheap shock factor is lost by this stuff getting toned down. I don't need to see a bunch of corpses hanging on the wall in Orochimaru's lab to know how f'd up the man is. It's been plenty shown in other ways. One edited scene won't change that impression. I don't need to see blood splattering everywhere and guts flying through the air to know someone was just put in the ground by a brutal jutsu. The gore in Naruto really never added any special value to the story or the characters themselves. It can easily do with less of it and still tell a great tale.
Lotta people saying that this video is stupid or whatever cuz of the censoring, but I actually enjoyed it. I know nothing about the Naruto manga, so even getting glimpses of the stuff (and I have a very good imagination to fill in the very small blanks) was very interesting for me. It’s a huge shame how much the anime was censored. I really wish they just went for TV 14 even M. I’m so tired of these shows going out of their way to make it for kids or just censor things for no reason. Just be accurate to the source material. Give us what we want. It’s just so annoying. And censoring this violence is just bs it does change how impactful scenes are too.
I think some of these are not so much to censor, but just creative decisions. For example with Zabuza cutting the guys head off, it doesn't really make sense that he could do that with a kunai, it's probably not even long enough to get through the width of the guys neck, the stabbing motion and then the fall from the bridge is a fairly good take on the scene I think. And stuff like the blackout-style for the genjutsu of Sasuke and Sakura getting kunai in the head just makes it more obvious what's actually going on in an animation where the viewer can't do a double take back and fourth like they would with a manga, it's to make it clearer that it's not actually reality to the viewer.
