Then I realized there might be a macro instructions on specific macro I was looking for, and this was it. Man! easy to follow and spent 20 minutes building your macro on my spreadsheet that I could use. Great JOB!!

A couple of things not mentioned in the video that I also found helpful. 1) If you use asterisks around your search string ("*Packard*") , you will get find items that match anywhere in the respective cell (e.g. "Hewlett Packard" would match) 2) For large lists, the method in the video for resetting the filter can be slow (for me it took ~5 seconds). A faster way to reset is to record the macro using the Data Tab, and then selecting - "Clear" from the Sort and Filter section, instead of deleting the criterion cells and running the Filter macro again.

Does the criteria heading have to be exactly like list headings? Or can I just chose which areas can be searched. If I chose which heading I wanted up top will the entire row still populate?

you could create another macro that copies your data into the criteria selection fields. Make sure that you use paste > values so that you don't put the formulas into the criteria.

Wow this video is Amazing!! I do have some trouble with the “reset” filter button. Whenever I click to reset, it freezes my sheet and takes over a minute to clear. Any information on how to fix this it would be a life saver. Filter works Excellent.

Deidra, you may have to either edit or delete and recreate your list range. Click "formulas" and then "name manager." From there you should be able to change or replace your list range. Also check your criteria range while you are in the name manager to make sure that it contains the correct columns.
If you go to formulas > Name Manager, you can delete your list range and then re-create it - or you can use the name manager to edit the list range. Hope that helps

I agree that normal filter is the easier approach, and that the advanced filter approach would be used less frequently. I would normally use advanced filters in an excel application when i felt that it would be easier for the user of the spreadsheet (who was not myself) to filter the data by just entering text and hitting a button. The other time I would consider using advanced filter is if the application required frequent filtering on multiple columns - while you can do this with the pull-downs as well, it might be faster to multi-column selection using the advanced filter. In addition, some interviewers might ask applicants to create an advanced filter, so it could still be useful to know how to create one.

I found out why soft softs so different compared to Ableton. It is because there is a default limiter on the master that i didn't know about.

yes, when you get lots of records, the reset can be slow. You can try clicking clear under data > sort & filter.
