I like how you break it down into short, digestible videos. That way we don’t have to go looking through a 20 minute video to find just the priming, or just the installing or just the red dye. Great job!
I bought my Berkey light a few months ago, but then had shoulder surgery, so it just sat there staring at me. Sol..today was the day. I read and reread the instructions and was totally confused. I am a good follower of directions, but just wasn't getting it. Enter your video--thank you! Before doing anything I watched it twice, laid out all my pieces like on the paper and began. I watched your red dye video, too, and am happy to say my Berkey is dropping clear water from both filters! Success! Thanks for making this a whole lot easier. The only problem I had is I did not have the right piece to put on my big kitchen faucet, so I had to prime it using the bathroom faucet--that was difficult, but it did work!
Hey thanks for your feedback, I'm happy to hear the video helped you. Priming the Berkey filters is the worst! It's such a pain in the butt, especially if you don't have the priming nipple or a compatible faucet.
Also nachbestellt. Freue mich dann, dein Video nochmals zu sehen. // Very good instructions, thank you very much. Now unfortunately I couldn't install my Big Berkey completely because I can't clean the batteries without a priming pump (German taps are not really compatible for cleaning). So reordered. Looking forward to watching your video again then.
Could you give more information about the fluoride filters? Do I need to purchase fluoride filters in addition to regular filters? Or do I need to filter my water with the regular filters first, and then go back and pour that water in to the Berkey that has been switched out to fluoride filters? Or do the fluoride filters do general filtering plus remove fluoride?
The Pf2 fluoride filters are purchased in addition to the black filters, and primarily target fluoride and arsenic. They use an activated alumina media, which is different than the carbon block of the black filters and is capable of targeting different contaminants. That said, our own testing identified an issue where the activated alumina media leached from the PF2 filters. Check out our full testing videos to learn more: Test 1 ua-cam.com/video/AVZmZwTxnMc/v-deo.html Test 2 ua-cam.com/video/1QL3McV20YM/v-deo.html
Yes -- and the PF2 filters very conveniently screw up onto the elongated hollow threaded tube that is below the top container. You can add them to a Berkey where the "regular" filters are already installed with no problem.@@waterfilterguru
Sorry, ich habe noch eine Frage. Ich habe zusätzlich eine Stainless Steel Berkey Water View Spigot bestellt. Weißt du, wie ich den Blue float ball in den Sleeve with glass tube reinbekomme? // Sorry, I have a another question. I also ordered a stainless steel Berkey Water View faucet. Do you know how I can get the blue float ball into the glass tube?
I don't have personal experience with the Berkey sight glass spigot - it's odd that the float ball wouldn't already be inside. Did it come with an instruction manual?
My set up is still testing positive for hard water on test strips.also highest ph and carbonate ppm. I've ran 3cycles and barely starting to see a difference . DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES WE NEED TO RUN WATER THORUGH THEM BEFORE WE SHOULD DRINK??
The Berkey filters are not capable of reducing water hardness or carbonate. High water hardness can also contribute to high pH. What you describe is the expected result, since these filters cannot reduce or address any of these parameters you mentioned
@@waterfilterguru thanks for the response water guru. I have one more question I'd like your opinion plz. -So is this water ideal for drinking?? Or is it just for emergency? I was hoping to use this as an at home station .
@@samaelmartinus3273 This should only be used with treated water - good for treated city water, and if you want to use it in an emergency you'll need to make sure to properly disinfect the water in addition to filtering it before consumption
Ok thanks I Googled if tap water was safe to drink in my state and they said it's some of the cleanest in the country so this and berkey should do just fine. Thanks water filter guru !
Too complicated for a non mechanic. I am a senior. I have the travel model. I have two holes. I am supposed to prime the water filters which are supposed to sweat. I don't see any sweating. It is hard to tell if filters are full of water. I shook them. I was able to install top knob and faucet easily. Written instructions with this are abhorrent.
I don’t have sinks that will fit the blue condom or thick washer so water just sprays across the room. This was such a frustrating install and because of that I wouldn’t recommend this filter to anyone. There are better ones on the market that don’t require a degree is engineering to build.
Vague instructions also. I'm returning mine. It's too bad I was looking forward to using it, but it's just turning into a hassle. Mine didn't even come with all the parts
I wouldn't recommend this product. Leaks, all parts were not included. Poor instructions. Water tastes like the carbon filter. Questionable reviews with independent sources, including the N.Y. Times. Lack of transparency with who or how the product was tested. High maintenance.. Many claims apparently cannot be independently verified and the company is not very forthcoming with product information. I'm probably going to return mine. It's too expensive to need y.t. videos to explain how to put it together or why it doesn't work properly
You've called out pretty much all the downsides of the Berkey systems. Did you see our video where we lab tested one in real-world conditions? ua-cam.com/video/AVZmZwTxnMc/v-deo.html
Which Berkey distributor are you referring to? Berkey products are sold through distributors only, not direct from the manufacturer. I'd be curious to know which had such horrible customer service.
Your video really helped to make setting up my Berkey travel filters easy! The instructions which come with this water filter are really overwhelming.

Same here- I made the mistake of putting the wing nut directly after the washer on the top chamber causing it not to drain properly.
It is a major operation, using the instruction sheets. Thanks so much for the help!!!
Yes it sure is, definitely not the quickest or easiest
Yes a major hassle putting it together and getting it to work properly.

The washer goes on the filter stem on the inside of the chamber

8 rotations from the beginning, once the threads catch. Be careful not to over tighten!

Berkey is one of the most complicated point of use systems to set up we've tested, that's for sure!
Totally agreed. I wish I got the ProOne
Is there a way to clean the filters by back flushing? rather than just rubbing it with a sponge?
No not that I know of
Why does my water taste like plastic after I set it up?
Most likely due to the rubber seals. This is a common issue I've heard about.
Did you perform the red dye test, and did the filters pass?
