I love the lore implication that Doto's impostor looks like that because it was the only visual reference Gero had at the time he was working on the copies.

I had a different theory to this. My theory was that the Three Idiots (Imposter) are actually from Trunk's Time line. (Or the Time Line where Cell killed Trunks.) Since Goku and the rest of the Z Warriors died, the Three Idiots had to step up and help protect the world, having to take their training seriously as they were Earth's last hope.
Our Three Idiots are from this Time Line, where all the Z Warriors are alive, meaning our idiots can just play around and have fun.
