That’s because the human experience is timeless. Every generation lives through history repeated therefore words of the past are relevant no matter how much time has passed. Not to mention, a lot of what Alan Watts has spoken about are thoughts that are universally thought of. There’s a channel in which we are all capable to tap into for ancient wisdom therefore what might seem like original wisdom is that which has been though of by countless others that have tapped into this channel as well. I’ve encountered people that have never heard of great thinkers such as watts but have almost said what he has said word for word and it’s proof that wisdom is a matter of listening to this universal frequency in which all living beings are able to hear despite their origin of birth and background. It’s a beautiful reminder that we are all connected to source it’s just a matter of listening.
Well, the way I see it, and that’s not to detract from what Watts is saying, is that every generation believes that they live in hardship. I’ve heard quite a few lectures, readings and quotes from down through the last hundred years and more and phrases like “in these troubled times” crop up time and again. So with that in mind, it’s quite easy to tailor a lecture to a theme like that, and furthermore easy to adopt a speech like that and apply it to the present. Kind of like reading someone else’s horoscope and claiming it for yourself 🤔😉✌️

I cant grasp the concept of observing myself, my thoughts. Every thought that comes into my mind, I automatically judge and/or analyze. Over Analyze. Im so very tired of waking up in a panic. Drowning in Anxiety and Depression. Dwelling in the Past and dreading futures.
You have already started, because you now know it can be done. Thoughts are like bubbles in a pot of boiling water. They arise, they disappear. What gives them strength is when we fix our attention on them. If we ignore them, they go away. But most of us let the thoughts, like bubbles, cover our entire head, our entire field of vision. They block out everything else, and they seem very real. They seem like they ARE us. They are not. They are only thoughts, popping up and floating away. Practice sitting quietly, with your eyes closed, and simply be aware of what you are thinking. For now, just watch the dialogue going on, and you will see how you are not your thoughts. Your voice is not you, it is a part of your body that you use to speak. Thoughts are not you, it is a part of your body you use to think. You can listen to your own words, and you can listen to your own thoughts.

Every attempt at change is almost immediately met with resistance from my own mind. This is because the mind is the program and it inhibits the user who is the one watching everything. The one having the experience..the real me. Instead of using the program to negotiate reality, we become overwhelmed and take the program as reality. Without the program our sensory input would be chaotic and we can't function without it. That's why in meditation the mind is kept occupied with trivial or repetitive or structure while the spirit slips out the back door. How strange that we are kept imprisoned by ourselves in unison with others. Only it is not really me doing it to myself, but an outside force acting on us. A friend told me something interesting. She believes every person at birth, receives a guardian angel and a demon. Our program is in actual fact an external installation which has taken over the rule of our true lives. It is horrifying in its implications.
