Amazon Echo Show Setup - Tips & Tricks

- So you have just purchased a new Echo Show and are not quite sure what to do with it.
In this video I am going to show you some tips and tricks on the first things you should try when setting up your Echo show. If you want to see more advanced tips and tricks I will leave links to other videos that I have created. I will show you one or 2 of these tricks in this video as well.
Setting the show up is simple you just plug it in, log onto your wifi network, sign into amazon and you are done. If you need help setting your device up I will leave the full setup instructions in the last 3 minutes of this video.
Now you are setup I will talk you through the tips that I follow when setting up a new show. The first thing you might want to do is change the assistants name from Alexa. You might want to do this because your name is similar and you don’t want to trigger your device by mistake. I am going to change the name on my device so I don’t trigger your devices when showing you tips in this video.
Changing the name is really simple. You simple swipe down from the top of the screen and go to settings.
Scroll up and select “device options” scroll up again until you see “wake word”.
You will then have 4 options,
The standard wake word, Amazon, Computer and Echo. I have chosen Computer.
To test it has worked just say the new wake word followed by a command.
Changing the brightness is simple, just scroll down and slide your finger along the brightness control.
For more control go to settings followed by display and brightness. From here you can set adaptive brightness so that the display will automatically adjust based on the ambient lighting.
The sunrise effect will gradually increase the brightness 15 minutes before your morning alarm is due.
If the device is in your bedroom you can turn on night mode. Just go to settings….. wallpaper and clock, scroll to advanced and select night mode.
In night mode you can select what times you want the show to dim. You can also get it to dim automatically based on the lighting levels in the room. I use this option and find that it works really well.
Don’t forget that you can cover the camera if you have the show in your bedroom and are concerned about someone looking in.
There are multiple options when it comes to selecting the background on your Echo show.
You can select from one of the pre-selected scenes including, Nature, travel, art, illustration or minimal. Just go to settings, wallpaper and clock. You can also display your own photos either through Amazon Photos, or Facebook. After you have selected your background the pictures will change on your screen throughout the day.
You can set up your echo so it shows selected content on the screen throughout the day. This can include news, weather calendar appointments and more.
To select what you want to display on your home screen just go to settings followed by home content.
From here you will be able to toggle different content options on and off. The options include.
Calendar events, discovery (which is basically various tips appearing on your screen), drop in which enables other authorised echo and echo show devices to drop in and call you. This is different to the call function because the show will automatically answer if someone drops in.
Other options include, notifications, photo highlights, skills, weather alerts and more. I would love to know what you options you have selected in the comments below.
You can use your device to control multiple smart home devices. You can control the devices either by using the touchscreen or your voice. The first thing you will need to do is add any of your smart home devices. To discover the devices just ask the assistant to find them.
Don’t forget to press the button on your Hue bridge if you have Phillips Hue.
Once the devices have been discovered you just have to swipe from the right hand side of the screen and select smart home to view your devices.
Once you have done this you can then press devices to see each of your device categories. I have cameras, lights, plugs and thermostats. Just select the item you want to use to control it.
Don’t forget you can also control your devices by using your voice.
You will also want to link your music services to your show. The best way to do this is through the app.
Open the app and press the 3 lines on the top left hand side of the screen followed by settings.
If you then scroll down you will see music. From here you can press “link new service” to link your music account. This works with most music services including Amazon Music, Spotify and Apple Music. However google play and youtube music are not supported.
If you use more than 1 music service you can select which service you want to use by default by going to the default services menu .
Once you are set up just ask the device to play whatever you want to listen to. You can also play radio stations. - Наука та технологія

Very useful summary thanks. The feature I would most like is to keep the timer showing on the display at large size format, this can be done on a Google display. All of the forums I have looked at suggest this is not possible, do you know of a way of doing this?

I mother and I have the echo 8 and both are using same setting same updates ,not to sure about firmware ,And her one when in dimed to night mode will display a larger clock in the bottom left corner, my one our ever does nothing just dims and thats it .Is my one broken ?
If anyone can help me, I accidentally hid the skill feature from the home screen. It shows the skill on the bottom, but the skills in big bold letters in the center is gone. How do I get that back?

how do I turn off the content - which position should slider be in? No matter what I change the same damn cards show - I just want the clock and notifications not the other garbage. No matter what I select the same cards come up. I've already thrown and shattered one echo show

When I swipe left, the icons that were on the left side have disappeared. I tried unplugging it, doing a factory reset, nothing works. And I had it for just 2 days. Also, the display won't go to sleep after 10 idle minutes even though auto-sleep is turned on. This thing is full of bugs

This crap will sleep and go the home screen while watching youtube video. I’ve read to turn off “Ambient Clock” but that setting is no longer there. Supposedly the camera detects motion to stay on but I don’t want the camera always exposed. There should be an actual option to disable sleep.
Turn of alexa or camara i do that i only use for music turn on only what i need ask alexa . I feel more secure that way turning of my mick and cámara . I need to be captious.
It is the most useless device from Amazon. Get a echo show stand for the fire tablet, that is the much better Echo Show with working Apps for UA-cam, Netflix etc.

@@juliehansen5696 Besides the bickering between Amazon, Google and Apple whos App goes on whos devices? Well because Amazon is too lazy to work on proper support for App and deliver anything useful themself. Why should they, people are buying the shit even without content to use it.
Don't waste your money. The machine is a big con ! Use your money to buy something useful. I have owned one for over a year. It is a piece of expensive rubbish !!
