Chordplay 300th Episode

- Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Chordplay with the 300th Episode in the Chordplay series! I can't believe I've filmed/edited the 300th lesson in the Chordplay series today, but here we are. Over the last five years of creating these lessons, we've uncovered various guitarists, bands, styles, approaches, progressions, mutations, and more! This episode is a celebration of this series overall, and even includes an additional "playing with chords" lesson as it unfolds - so let's dive in!
This episode revolves around the entire concept of the Chordplay series, which is playing around with chords and discovering new sounds/ideas. This could be the spelling, fingering, position, arrangement, or anything else you can imagine. The general idea shared in this lesson centers around one chord - an Emaj9 - and then proceeds to run through spelling variations, note rearrangements, fretboard locations, and other ways to rework/recycle the initial starting chord. This idea can easily create hundreds of different chord types, sounds, and mutations in a short amount of time.
Needless to say, if you've been following the Chordplay series on the LNL channel, would like to expand your chord vocabulary and discovery process, a player searching for some new chord ideas to play around with, or maybe you're just curious what all the fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

Alex Lifeson is one that tweaked my ear for chords and arpeggios in the 70's. Congrats on 300 and to 300 more. 👍👍

Dave, congratulations. I've been a loyal watcher for two years and you have helped me understand the guitar better [still working on the 'playing better' part lol]. Your enthusiasm for music of all kinds is infectious and I'm frequently astonished at how much you know and how there's no snobbery in how you get things across. Wishing you [and me!] 300 more and congrats again.
Great news... Congratulations. I'm a bass player but still enjoy and learn from your post.
You keep going Dave, Your Awesome !!!!

I've been playing a 6add11 chord all this time and had no idea! Think I stole it from SRV and have been in love with that chord ever since. Thanks, Dave and congrats on another milestone.
Holy smokes. 5 years and 300 episodes of Late Night Lessons. Not to mention the countless people inspired. Way to go, Dude!
What a great accomplishment! Dave.
You have been a huge inspiration and I love your whole vibe & the positivity. You have great ears & are a great musician with the gift of teaching. Congrats on 300! I love it and am properly inspired to think about it in the way you did in this lesson. In a way, it reminds of how Andy Partridge created songs based on playing around with shapes and movement. It is a land of happy accidents that make one think differently. Good on you and thanks again!
Awesome Congratulations Dave❣️
Congrats!!!
Congratulations!!!!! Well deserved, indeed! Over 100k too \m/ Keep up the great work. (obligatory "Moar Vitto" request. LOL! )
Congrats man!
Congratulations luff
Been watching about four years, and i never knew the title CHORDPLAY
was a play on COLDPLAY.
I always assumed it was a play on the word, Foreplay.
Congratulations 🎉
Rock on!
Wow congratulations. My teacher was kinda like you. I took lesson s at 14. Hitchhiked walked 6 miles for lessons. ( no UA-cam no tabs in 70s Song books for zeppelin would say the word “” solo” when solo was going to happen. No instructions)He could figure out anything but always threw in theory with the song I wanted. I took lesson till he just passed. From 78 till 3 years ago . I always hated the term teacher can’t play crap because he could. And you can play anything and throw in the theory as a bonus
You’re pretty good for an upstart!! 😂 awesome stuff…

Stone Temple pilots and Jimmy page both use a lot of different types of chord voicings and slash chord voicings which you should look into make a lesson about them. Bob weir grateful dead jam sections in the 80s used a lot of different chord voicings only during the jam sections in the live 80s concerts. All of these guitarist have a big chord vocabulary

Just found you a while ago. Keep it up, brother. I've been playing since '74, and Purple Haze was one of my best jams in high school. All the other players were jealous. You've opened a whole new way to interpret things. Grew up loving The Beatles. I'm with you. Thanks.
