Agreed! It's strange because the director, Doug Liman, has done some really great movies like Swingers and Edge of Tomorrow. So, you'd *think* that people would've heard about Go.
@@cmorrisx His reaction cracks me up. Whenever I'm in a situation where someone asks a question in that same tone I answer with William Fichtner's reaction.
0:13 Zach's look at Adam there is so cute and proud of Adam, like "well done baby, they're buying it, you're such a good actor I love you". The affectionate couples' bond between their characters was played down and barely shown in this movie, but the tiny hints were got were very believable, Jay & Scott sold it.
Me too. My neighbor/friend became desperate and got roped into one of these schemes. I just felt so bad for her as she kept going on and on about these creams she was trying to sell, but the first 30 seconds in I knew it was a pyramid scheme and tried telling her to get out of it.
A couple I met at a party invited me to lunch at Panera. I kinda thought they were swingers and never having met any, I just wanted to hear the pitch. Turns out they were trying to ensnare me in this kind of thing. I politely declined, but they were extremely pushy. They paid for my lunch, though. So I’ve got that going for me.
This scene is so realistic for the time and location that it's not even funny. When this movie came out in '99 (and takes place in L.A.) I was working at an executive suites in SoCal, and one of the female tenants I answered phone for, and was work buddies with, tried to rope me in on the exact same scheme. ;D With the same "It's not Amway....it's a different product....." script and bragging about what level she was at in terms of sales. So when me and my then-boyfriend saw this movie at the time we just looked at each other like O.o and laughed, because I was smack in the middle of the same situation with my work buddy desperately trying to get us admin girls to be under her in this multi-level direct wholesaling scheme.
I like when they are leaving their house, and the Zack guy says: " I need to do something incredibly un-wholesome after that, I need to bathe in sin". LOL Hilarious...then Adam's like, "With me? Or one of your other boyfriends?" Love this movie :)
Hate to break it to you, but corporations in general are a pyramid scheme. Lol. Rich folks at the top and down the chain of command to the bottom of the barrel.
edforrest18 among other things, the scene is making fun of multi level marketing home businesses. In the United States there is a large percentage of the population who cringe when being presented with an opportunity to be a part of these types of businesses because of the perceived stigma and high pressure sales tactics that are commonly associated with them, regardless of whether or not it is deserved. In other countries I know attitudes are much different, but in the US it gets so bad that companies like Amway have to change their name so they can attempt to shed their old reputation.
+azumah Someone tried getting me into Amway yesterday, but as an aspiring filmmaker I got enough on my plate alone just trying to produce film and video productions let alone finding the time to try and sell people products. It seemed like something I would have to devote a lot of time to and I was just not willing to do it I told the guy who introduced me to it good luck. Amway is only something I would consider doing if I had a very large following of people behind me.
This is an incredibly under appreciated movie. Whenever I'm in a group and ask if anyone has seen it, nobody ever has.
Charles P these people clearly have some
Problems this movie is a classic
I asked just that question last night and got nothing.
I totally forgot about this background story
scene
I’m right there with ya. Genius movie with a lot of stars
To this day, whenever i see a little mazda miata driving around, i say 'it's a miata!' as if i were trying to put a body in its trunk lol.

This scene is absolutely hilarious. I love the look of disgust/confusion on Jay Mohr's face when he says "You want us to sell Amway?"
or William Fichtner reaction after he says that :-)
It's c-confederated products...

@@cmorrisx I want to do something terrifically unwholesome tonight.
I was dying laughing at the look of Scott wolf and jay 😅
For anybody that grew up in the 90s and had to sit in the living room with your parents telling your friends parents Amway this hits home
William Fichtner is awesome actor !!!
F - to - the - yeah.
He looks like my boss
hell yeah baby ...
Probably because he IS your boss. Along with everyone else’s.

1:10 "… even that cologne you like."
The look Jay gives is classic!!!
The scene is more terrifying when you see the whole thing
Even that cologne you like.....dead 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 that creases me up every single time
I first saw this movie when I was like 14-15. I had no idea how funny this scene actually was.
One of the funniest scenes in cinema, I think. Scott and Jay's expressions.
0:33 Zach & Adam panicking thinking they were about to have to do a fourway with a cop and a woman
It was heading in that direction between Burke's pat downs and him asking Zach about "being open to new things".
But weren’t the cop and his wife swingers anyway?
Fichtner's suppression of internal screams of rage at being accused of being Amway made this entire scene. He's such a great actor.
Look of fear between the two of them is hilarious
I've had this type of pitch thrown at me in the past. Lol.
Me too many times lol

@@gohawkeyes529 Amway pitches at Panera is too common lol
MLM becomes these peoples personalities😂
This was my first William Fichtner film, and I've been a fan ever since.
Mine is Heat DeNiro & Pacino
This is so true. Amway has been doing exactly this for over 50 years.
Off-camera, when Fichtner laughs through the "it's against the rules" part it just KILLS me LOL
The ham...
ALL ..Amway !!
lol--I thought it was just me and my brother who thought that was hilarious
Awww Jane Krakowsky!!
Jay’s look when he responds to the cologne lol

"He makes it sound sinister"
IT IS!
William Fichtner is just awesome.
that is a huge scene 😀the faces of the 2 guests when they are catching on and "you want us to sell Amway ???" 😂😂😂
I like when they are leaving their house, and the Zack guy says: " I need to do something incredibly un-wholesome after that, I need to bathe in sin". LOL Hilarious...then Adam's like, "With me? Or one of your other boyfriends?"
Love this movie :)
Yes! That's my favourite part of this scene, and it's cut off this upload for some reason :(
Is so prophetic when you see this scene after 21 years
The dawn of multilevel marketing
The dawn was decades before this. Its a classic way to make your customers do your marketing.
When ur inner business major kicks in
This movie is hilarious. The scene just before this is perfect comedy acting
my parents went to Amway meetings, how 90's
They’re CONFEDERATED PRODUCTS!
LOVE SCOTT WOLF!!! He needs a comeback
Scamp from Lady and the Tramp: Scamp's Adventure 😄😍😂😊.
I Hate Pyramid Schemes lol.. they break SO many people...

Funniest part of movie lol😂
God I love this vignette so much.
Ulterior motive
Easily the worst words known to a normal person
I'm English, so this scene went way over my head at the time.
Robert Cooke I'm Irish and I still don't get this scene

What do you not get about it, they're giving them an awkward sales pitch for a pyramid scheme they are involved in
A sales pitch for a pyramid scheme can only be awkward.
At least they’re excited about something! ❤
is a different quality of product!!.
There's no comedies like this anymore, now comedies are all "try to hard cringe".
