“Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends.
Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations.
The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal)

is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.
Finally you are reacting to the greatest female voice on planet earth. And it doesn't hurt that she's beautiful. More of Lara fabian's most popular view videos please. Until next time stay well and popping for fresh
thanks for watching more reactions coming
She’s a legend!
Éric Sicard said everything about the origins of that song in his comment, very interesting and complete. About the sense, it's about a toxic relationship, a kind of narcissistic perverse who controls her and make her sick. In fact, that kind of people don't love, they're only happy when they brake their victim psychologically and they never stop. She lost herself and wants to die. I'm a victim of this too, and, even if we're divorced, he doesn't stop destroying me, even if I ignore him. There are no law against them, they're masters in manipulation then justice is always on their side, so he still kills me. He took every in my life, even my children, my daughters don't talk to me anymore, but now he wants my house... I think Lara had a man like that in her life, that's maybe why she needed to do this cover, I can feel it in her emotion. I was heard she had hard times and that is maybe one of her bad moments. This woman is incredible and amazing.
Nice reaction from you, love from France 🇫🇷😘
I just wanted to add that it's not specifically a men disease, there are also women narcissistic perverses. They are in the psychopaths or sociopaths side. The victims are always empaths.
Well in that case, it's not at all about a narcissistic perverse or anything that is trendy to identify as such nowadays.
Serge Lama and the woman he speaks about in this song ended up together a few years later, had a child and married in 1991, up until her death in 2016. In the 70's, people did not divorce on a whim and they were both married.
Bravo Bravo Excellent
She is Magnificent
Thx for more Lara! Great reaction! Also love your Queen reactions too! Thx
Love Lara ❤
Love from Denmark ❤
No, she is fluent in 4 languages, but can sing in 12 languages ! 🇨🇦
Yes, she is right, language is no barrier and she is the best to convey emotions.
But I strongly recommend you to listen again with english subtitles:
The lyrics are amazing, deep, sad …
And you will understand her amazing artistic choices to better portray every nuances of these strong feelings and emotions
Here is a version with these english subtitles:

The emotion in the song how sick this person is making them.. robbing them of life and the person doesn’t even care #deep
It was at Montréal-province of Québec in Canada... 1999
Here are my recommendations for you to pursue this journey with Lara: the rule is to always react and prefer her lives. She is always surprisingly better live than in studio. there are many more gems but this is a good start list
